Key items and tabards out of the bags soon, says Tigole
Tigole has gotten over his little weekend rampage on the forums and gotten back to business: he's got two tidbits about a popular subject among most players: making more bag space available.First up is tabards -- he says that there are no plans to move tabards from the bags to the UI (as with the pet and mount changes), but that players shouldn't worry too much, because Blizzard is making it easier for players to get lost and destroyed tabards back if necessary. Since the Championing mechanic means we won't have to wait till Exalted to get tabards, there'll be a tabard vendor in Dalaran that'll have most of the tabards you need at a relatively cheap price.
And "keys" that aren't keys are also mentioned -- by this, we mean things like the Scepter of Celebras or the Mallet of Zul'Farrak; attunement items, in other words. Tigole says there's a plan for these also (another "keychain" tab, maybe?), but that we won't see it in time for the expansion.
Good news on both ends for people short on bag space, even if we have to wait a while. Personally my bag space is freeing itself up lately -- it's an "everything must go" sale on the AH for me as I try to convert all my soon-to-be obsolete crafting items into gold.

I don't see why they just don't make tabards not take up any space. Seems silly to do this vender thing instead, especially since they've noted it won't cover all tabards.

And what does this have to do with your comment? Well they quite simply don't have the time. They're abandoning their "Done when it's Done" policy, as was stated in the post Tigole got all butthurt about this weekend.

there must be a lot of loot to carry in WotLK if they keep giving you all this bag space.
But i guess the people who fill there bank with "useless crap". i have two bag full of Zg coins, mounts, etc. but its not like i have no bag space for grays and quest items

I have all 20 slot bags (except the Bpack) and my bags are 80% full with gear sets -- and that is when I keep my pvp gear in the bank. I guess these changes will help me since now I will actually be able to use my pets instead of stare at them in the bank (which is also all 20 slots). Mallet and Sceptor in bank, but i have no need or desire to carry them with me.
I'd like to be able to carry a couple tabards with me thought. Hopefully they will add a some type of 'keyring' for tabards.

Clearly you do not play a hybrid or tanking class. Hybrids need gear sets for each role, and tanks need many resist sets.
I'm a sunwell raiding druid, and I've got 4 open spots in my bank.

I think we need a tabard closet in our banks. Just like the key ring, a very small tab in the bag column that is just for tabards.
Brimoonfang Sep 24th 2008 9:30AM
Excellent idea.
Let's make the bank a bit more interesting that just
a big box and seven bag slots.
Plus, the tabard closet could be a gold sink, and we all know how much Blizzard loves gold sinks.

How misleading - the headline says tabards will be "out of the bags soon" while the article itself says "there are no plans to move tabards from the bags to the UI." If by "out of the bags" you mean "not out of the bags but you shouldn't care" then I guess that's a good title. Otherwise, not so much.

I added a post about letting those Tabards that are special, IE the Tabard of the Protector, and such be transferable between you characters on your account..

Making it possible to have it on more than one character depending on what you play.

The vendor has been in the beta since the last build. You can find her (?) in the Dalaran visitor centre. She gave me back my long lost Tabard of the Hand =D
There may be one in other cities, I have not checked.

I was actually just cleaning out my bank a little this morning. Pretty much the entire "basic bank" (what you start out with before you add any bags) on my main are cosmetic pets and mounts. I'll be so happy to have that space free!
P.S. I also still have my Zul'Farrak Mallet. I don't know why I hang onto it, but it's secure in my bank next to my Brewfest Pony Keg from last year, and my Soap on a Rope.

Having the tabards UI would make life easier but its not something we really need if there are other options.
The trips to the tabard vendor or a closet might be kinda fun, I always enjoy checking the mailbox and that stuff.

Fairly nice news for hunters, who are down one bag slot anyway for our @#(*$ quiver or ammo bag.
Oneiroi Sep 24th 2008 11:13AM
Yeah, with all the work Blizzard is putting into freeing up bag space, I'm surprised they haven't done anything for hunters yet.
They've gotten rid of more and more things like regents/poison materials for rogues, loyalty for hunter pets...time to let arrows just be a number in the character box.

I'd really like to know if we're going to be able to get outfits back, especially my Brewfest clothes. I deleted all my holiday clothes because I was running out of room earlier this year.
Syme Sep 24th 2008 11:13AM
Well, this is disappointing news about tabards. Tabards ard consumables now? Buy it, use it, destroy it, buy it again. And collectors must still use bag space.
Palamer Sep 24th 2008 11:27AM
Ever given someone $10 and then they complained you didn't give them $100? How would you feel about that?
Blizz did a great thing by taking keys, pets, and mounts out of our bag space. Plus there are going to be bigger bags in WotLK.
It would be great if tabards had their own UI. But complaining about it is a bit pathetic. WoW is improving greatly. Asking for more is fine but let's put it in context.

I collect outfit sets, I cannot tell you how many times I have run WC getting the complete viper set and complementary cape and bow for my hunter. That set takes up a lot of room. I would love to see a wardrobe section in my bank where in a single slot I could store a complete set, or have a slot for each attainable set of my race/class and let me fill in the blanks as I achieve them. I would imagine it would have anb interface that popped up a character sheet for each set.
Anyway I think what blizzard has done so far is great and will be very helpful, so thank you for that.
Adamanthis Sep 24th 2008 11:58AM
Hmm... Why don't they just give the Tabard Vendor an extra dialogue option that opens a bank-like tab for tabards only?
