Windows Mobile users get in on the mobile Armory fun
Hey Windows Mobile folks? Feeling a little left out of the mobile Armory app game? We've got just the thing for you: the WoW Player for Windows Mobile will pull up all the character information you want on a Windows Mobile Pocket PC device.Unfortunately, unlike the iPhone app we posted, we haven't actually tried this one, and there's a few comments up about it not finding characters correctly (it looks like it requires PocketPC 5-6.1 and .NET Compact Framework 3.5, whatever that all is). But on the other hand, it's a free download, so if you're stuck with a Windows Mobile device and really want to see your characters on a mobile screen, it's worth a try.
Doesn't look as good as the iPhone app (whoops, sorry that's our Mac snobbery showing through), but there's definitely a nice installed base of Windows Mobile users out there, and they could use a little WoW love, too.

I'm more surprised that there are people who use Windows Mobile.

I am surprised that there are poeple who WILLINGLY use Windows Mobile. Unfortunately, many companies only support the windows mobile platform for business use.
Though the new iPhone integrates better with exchange than the current version of Windows Mobile does. Weird.

I'm not surprised on how many sheep there are who own an iphone. Same with the Sidekick.
If you want a real pda/smartphone you either get a windows mobile based phone or a blackberry.

its not mac snobery. its just superficial. its well known mac users prefer fashion over function. you dont have to appologise for it.
Candina@WH Sep 26th 2008 3:19PM
Trolling are we? It is better said that mac people prefer style AND function over simply function. :)

I will be replacing my notebook this christmas or next spring and it won't be running Vista.

The author of the article was trolling by putting that line. Surur is merely obliging him.

vlad i mean, i looked back up at the wrong name.

I am inclined to agree with vlad's comment. iPhone = pretty (pretty locked down.. zing!), WM phone = functional.
All honesty, the iPhone is great for that fact that it does what it says it does, easily. But for those of us that like to tinker, its just far too restricted.
WM phones have the capability to look and function just as well as an iPhone (check out PointUI), however designers seem to have their priorities in other areas of development.

"Hey Windows Mobile folks?" Such a fine writing style you have.

"...so if you're stuck with a Windows Mobile device..."
I'll be the first to admit that the iPhone has a whole lot of "sexy" features, but there are more than a few of us who prefer to use Windows Mobile as it provides so much more functionality in both media and practicality. Its good to see that we haven't been forgotten by main stream.
(and yes, I will also be the first to admit the flaws of Windows Mobile)

Remember with a Windows Mobile phone you get to tether your laptop and play WOW using its internet connection, which you cant do with the iPhone.
iPhone Style
WM Function
Candina@WH Sep 26th 2008 3:33PM
Well, not on T-Mobile (though I am not sure they offer a WM phone).
If you exceed 1gig of internet usage on T-Mobile, you USED (changed two days ago) get slowed down.
and the inability to tether is only in the US. It is a contract issue with AT&T, not a technology limitiation.

Agreed. Can't even COPY AND PASTE on the iPhone.
My Kjam (old as sin) got new life with WM6.1 (SERIOUS improvements over older version). Tide me over till I get a new phone (whatever that might be, whenever we sell our house. Hey! anyone want to buy a beautiful house in Lynnwood, WA? http://www.realtor.com/realestate/lynnwood-wa-98036-1095414017/ )

Why did you have to go and mention the iPhone? Now we'll just argue about which is better. This will bring hordes of Apple Fanboys who will flood the comments. And no one will talk about the WoW Player.
Candina@WH Sep 26th 2008 3:35PM
On a unrelated but interesting note.
has anyone heard of a armoury app for Android? The first google phone is out.
Dillon Sep 26th 2008 4:06PM
I haven't heard, but I'm sure there will be one soon. Apple is in the process of actively displacing as many of their developers as possible with their draconic NDA on all things iPhone development.
badjoke Sep 26th 2008 3:38PM
That app looks hideous. Why is it impossible for most Windows apps to add some good looking design?

Surur Sep 26th 2008 3:56PM
In theory it is a contract issue. In practice, if you do not jailbreak, there is no 3rd party apps or native way on the iPhone to tether, contract or not.
Netshare is gone.
In practice most Windows Mobile phones come with an Internet Sharing application built-in, because unlike the iPhone WM phones are business phones.
