BlizzCon 08 tournament brackets revealed
The other day, Blizzard posted the brackets for the upcoming Starcraft, Warcraft III, and World of Warcraft Arena tournaments at BlizzCon.I don't follow every little motion in the WoW Arena community, but there is one team that jumped out at me immediately: Orz. They've won a few tournaments already, and in a way they're the 'face' of the Arena, if that makes any sense. As Zach Yonzon mentioned awhile back in one of his columns, every sport, no matter how big or small, has its stars. Even eSports. Here in the states, Orz is one of those star teams. Rhaegyn, Glick and Hafu are definitely the players to watch in this tournament. It looks like they've picked up a new sponsor since I last saw them in action, so I'd like to extend a belated congratulations to them on that.
Of course, this tournament also includes the Korean team Council of Mages, which won the tournament at WWI08. Pretty much every team on the bracket has done some great work in the Arena already, and the tourney should be really exciting no matter who walks away with the win and the grand prize of $25,000 per player.

Typical Arena basher has to post the obligitory. zomg arena sucks.
Kind of like any topic that has the word China in it, someone has say farmer.

So you lack the skillz to cut it in arenas and automatically think it must suck. Go back to hitting your scripted dungeon monsters and let people who like arena (and are skillful) play their game.
Look out for the Koreans - they've got the dedication and skill to take the whole thing again.

Kind of like the obligatory comment I'm going to make: Not one single hunter on any of the teams listed. But plenty from the favorite classes that the developers all play themselves Hunters should get a reduced monthly payments after 2+ years of this

As a paladin, I say your tears do not belong here, but on the WoW boards.

Actually Nihilum has and does run a hunter.

There is no such thing as eSports. Do you see poker players claiming they play cSports?
No.
That is because they are not self-absorbed princesses who are so desperate to be taken seriously that they can't tell the difference between a competition and a sport.
Malkeior Sep 27th 2008 11:33PM
You wanna know something awesome?
Sport(n); an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

Arena is competitive.
Whether you enjoy it or not is up to you, everyone has their own opinion.
I'm a shaman, and besides hunter's, were the 2nd worst, but nevertheless, I love arena.
So. Bring on the tournament. Whiners, you can all QQ till the world ends.
Steve, poker is shown on ESPN, so its a sport. Gaming is a sport too, whether you realize it or not.

Will any of this be streamed outside of American pay-per-view channels? It seems a mighty step backwards since the Invitational to not have any public streams available.

Ok I just had to say this. First off i'm attending Blizzcon. was looking foward to seeing some pvp wow at blizzcon but after this imma pass.
First reason.
Warrior Druid Lock
Warrior Druid Priest
Priest Mage Rogue
Second reason.
Look at reason#1.
enough said.
Malkeior Sep 28th 2008 10:40AM
Those are the most powerful teams, it IS a competition, do you expect the teams to gimp themselves?
wowcheese Sep 28th 2008 11:30AM
Seriously, if you had a choice of watching live either 1) WoW Arenas or 2) Any real life sport, what would you choose? There are many team sports I do not like to watch at all and I love video games. However, I would almost always go with #1. I'm sure 90% of WoW players feel the same. Come on WOWInsider, please start adding some polls for this kind of stuff.
Blizzcon '08 will be interesting this year. They're obviously focusing more on arena and yet the broad population of PvPers do not like the arena grind. I'm hoping for good questions for the panels.
