Launcher updated again, 3.0.2 soon?
The Launcher "and its related tools" have gotten another upgrade today, even though the realms haven't come up yet, which tells us that the Background Downloader probably has more work to do, which itself means that we probably won't see 3.0.2 today. Not really a surprise -- it's early by anyone's predictions for sure -- but the Downloader has had a full patch out for a while, so the update is primed and almost ready.Today's downtime is all about hardware upgrades, apparently, so Blizzard is definitely gearing up for Wrath. We saw lots of hardware upgrades in the months before the Burning Crusade launch (people who were playing back then will remember all of the horrible queues and population issues before servers got expanded), and while Wrath probably won't be as big a jump, Blizzard is still getting ready.
Which just leaves the question of when we'll see patch 3.0.2. Considering the BC content patch came just about a month before release, we're still looking for it in mid-October (likely after all the ruckus of BlizzCon has died down).

this is pretty well discussed in several different WI threads (and several other sites too). everyone has the same conclusion you did. 30 days from ptr the patch will hit. 30 days from the patch hitting LK will be relaesed.
the confirmation of the lk release date after we all discussed this a month ago confirmed this. same pattern as BC. go figure. a routine at a software company.

I'm still betting on October 14th for the patch. Even though *that* still seems a bit soon, it would give us a month to get used to everything before Wrath hits.
Naix Sep 30th 2008 1:10PM
To soon? Nah. The patch should hit today. In fact it needs to. 3.0.2 mostly has to do with talents and not delivering a "total package". This is the first steps into wrath and we need the new talents to finish up the current content.
Naix Sep 30th 2008 3:42PM
"Despite the fact that they're not remotely finished with talents and balancing they should release it today... right."
They are never really "finished" with talents. Talents will always be changing, the game will always be changing, everything always changes. You really think 1 more week is going to have massive changes they could not get done in the last month?
You don't give Blizzard enough credit.

My guess is next week, so they can fix bugs and still have time the following week to set up for blizzcon.
Some speculation: if they don't release 3.0 before blizzcon, then it might be more likely that the big announcement may be deathknights with 3.0.
Redaurora Sep 30th 2008 12:07PM
If they announce DK for the patch why by the spend $40 dollors on the expansion. Just so you can grind 10 more levels. I dont see that the DK will be up. Maybe something off the wall will be announced but I could be wrong.
Byrd Sep 30th 2008 12:09PM
You cant unlock deathknights unless you have the expansion installed. So I don't think anyone will be playing one even if 3.0 has them included.
Ghantu Sep 30th 2008 12:43PM
I'm pretty sure Death Knights at 55 are part of the load-balancing strategy, anyway. Not only are they splitting the Northrend newcomers into two zones, a big chunk of each realm's population will be in the Death Knight starter zone and then Outland for a while, leveling their Death Knights. By the time the Death Knights are in Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord, the rest of the population should be spread over the rest of Northrend. Seems like a good plan to avoid the Hellfire Peninsula train wreck from Burning Crusade's release.

There's a thread on the beta forum today with a Tigole response once again confirming that you need Wrath to roll a death knight.
They don't give away one of their main selling points for free.

A month before Wrath sounds feasible. That'd give people time to level their inscription from 1 to the current cap so people can buy/sell/use glyphs right when LK is released.

Either next week or the 14th is my guess. They want to give people time to dump their honor before it gets erased, they want some time to hammer out bugs that crop up, and they want time to see what all the new features mean to PVE and PVP.
Were I you, I'd suggest staying off the forums when the patch DOES drop. WoW players are whiney at the best of times, and once everything changes they're going to start a shitstorm.

As of 1:00 pm EST the update being downloaded was 2.4.3 - 3.0.1. This came in after the downloaded and tool update. It is 821MB in size and still downloading.

Totally logging into the PTR when it comes up. I've spent the entire maintenance downloading it because I NEED to try my rogue with the new talents and see the harbor, it's effin' killing me.
xeren Sep 30th 2008 4:50PM
the harbor is epic. it gave me the same feeling i haven't had since i first walked from goldshire to SW and came upon the valley of heroes.

Mike, you're a good man but...there's another post on the FRONT PAGE about 5 posts down regarding this EXACT same thing.
Why post it again? People are so lazy they can't scroll down anymore?
darian Sep 30th 2008 2:03PM
Definitely too lazy to scroll down. It took a 2 Liter Mountain Dew and an unprecedented force of will for me to scroll down this far. If it wasn't for the auto-jump to the bottom I couldn't even reply!

I am thinking that the content patch is coming on Oct 14th. Blizzcon will be over, they can use that event to hyoe the 3.0 content patch. Wrath should be gold by that time and in manufacturing and with 4 weeks to launch they would have a good window to see what would need to patched/fixed/nerfed for the first post launch patch.
Mujahadeen Sep 30th 2008 1:45PM
When will the honor points be wiped out? With the release of WotLK, or with the patch that follows it?
Naix Sep 30th 2008 1:14PM
More than likely the patch should go live today. The PTR has been out for awhile, beta has been out for a long time, and the release date is coming up quickly.
Just activate the patch already Blizzard.
