Breakfast Topic: Honorary wipe
Well so much for the honor wipe. As you can already see from the comments on that post, players have all kinds of opinions about this -- some believe that Blizzard should have gone through with the wipe, giving everyone a clean slate as the expansion started. Some players disagree, saying that honor is honor -- if you earned it, you should keep it. Some players are unhappy that the prices for level 80 items are going to be raised as part of the non-wipe, leaving new players in the dust. And even other players are just angry because they listened to Blizzard, and already spent the honor they thought they were losing anyway. So the question this morning isn't how you feel about the Honor non-wipe, since odds are you've already expressed that. But it is: where do we go from here? Are you going to step up Honor farming in the hopes of picking up new, expensive items right away at level 80? Or are you just done with the system completely, and planning to worry about what's available at level 80 when you get there?
You should keep in mind that for all of the gnashing of teeth, we still don't know for sure how rewards will worth in Wrath -- Tigole has even said that tuning is still happening, and so any tweaks Blizzard may make might actually turn out to make the whole thing easier on everyone. But now that you know the Honor isn't going anywhere, what's your plan before the expansion?

Blizzard needs to grow a pair. If they were going to do an honor wipe, they shouldn't have said a thing, then just wiped when the xpac came out. Would people quit in an outrage? Yeah. But people quit every day, and more people join.

I don't think I care either way anymore. The thing that truly disheartens me is the whole arena thing. If my guild isn't doing anything, and I don't feel like farming/questing, I like to just randomly run battlegrounds. Now I'm not going to get much mileage out of it unless I do arenas. Aside from the fact that I hate arena, I honestly do not want to try to coordinate my schedule with others just to PvP. I'm also not looking forward to being outclassed in BGs just because I don't arena. So what is saving honor/marks going to gain me anyway?
Oh yeah, and the new pvp gear is butt ugly. And sad that the different tiers are just recolored versions of each other.
That's my QQ for the week.

Actually, yeah that is my complaint too. I wish they’d deal more with the stupidity of the forced Arena matches and arena rating for BG gear than for the damn honour wipe.

item prices were going up anyway, so that's a moot point. Same thing happened before, you get more honor per kill at 80 over 70, (around %20 more) thus the items are inflated to compensate.
Not sure how this is grounds for complaint, the item prices were in the game before they said they were going to wipe anything and before they said they weren't.

Heh, I was actually looking forward to the honor wipe :/
But maybe they will just make a new PvP honor system for people at level 80, and then all the honor we have now will be worthless. That way, nobody can complain that their "efforts" were worthless, but it will also keep people from jumping into PvP sets as soon as they hit level 80.

I somehow doubt that... I think they are just going to make the honor requirements for newer gear MUCH higher... which I think sucks.

I'll just keep on doing what I've been doing. Casual amount of dailies and hit the battlegrounds just for fun.
I was upset about the notion of an honor wipe, though. Even though I don't have 75k stockpiled, I still wanted my time to count for something- much like the people who are stockpiling gold.
Sraad Oct 1st 2008 9:42AM
What's this honor you speak of? What instance does it drop in?
Sothe Oct 1st 2008 9:42AM
Don't pvp, its bad.
Don't care.
I feel good for all the pvpers tho.
lazarel Oct 1st 2008 9:44AM
What's the point in caring... play the game. Stop getting so worked up about with *might* be. Live in the now and do your thing. When the release come, it will be the way it is, until changes are made.
By the way...
"picking up new, expensive items right away at level 80?"
Really? Right away... at 80?
/sigh

As long as they are still going to make success in PvP depend on arenas I couldn't care less about gaining honor.
Dever Oct 1st 2008 9:56AM
I personally think it's kinda BS, for one you announce your going to do something then after a lot of QQing people accept that it's happening and spend their points. Not only that but I don't agree with the whole stockpiling points, even if the points are "earned" it still makes a lot of cave jumpers, or just scrubs that suck at pvp get gear faster than they should. But it doesn't matter to much blizz will do what blizz wants and I just kinda have to take it.
Irshalthra Oct 1st 2008 10:17AM
Blizz is not going to stop the "cave jumpers". All facets of the game have them. Raiding carries poor players through because they are warm bodies. Arena honor can be purchased by riding coat tails. Battlegrounds can be AFKed.
Blizz could do better yes, but cannot stop it at all without ruining the game for most.

Since my raiding guild dissolved last night, I'm going to focus solely on PvP and max out on my mage first and work on marks.
Hinalover Oct 1st 2008 9:47AM
Well, I for one will probably grind out the 75k Honor now and get as much gear as I can once I hit lvl 80, only for the fact that I'm on a PvP server so that I have some survivability when heading to a gank-infested area. I'll probably also use it for Mage Tanking 4 Horsemen but that is about it right now.
sephirah Oct 1st 2008 9:50AM
Given the number of people worried exclusively by what will happen at 80 (pvp/raids), I wonder why Blizzard still makes anything not endgame...
DCoW Oct 1st 2008 9:52AM
people seiously need to stop qqing over this. seriously. just because you afk'd about fifty thousand times doesn't mean you deserve honor.
I still wish that pvp and pve gear for the most part wasn't interchangable at ANY level.
Either way, what's the justification that you should keep the honor? because you were playing before wrath came out? and because of that you believe you deserve a headstart?
people like that sicken me.
Swiss Oct 1st 2008 9:59AM
Ummm, excuse me. Not all of us AFK'd for honor. Some of us actually participated round after round after round to get our gear. In fact, we probably spent at least triple the amount of time grinding for a full S2 set than arena-goers spent getting S3 or S4 gear.
Why should it not be wiped? Because it's all about the TIME INVESTMENT. Many people would've played the game very differently had they known there would be an honor wipe. They would've spent their time making gold on the auction house, running instances (trade BoJ for epic gems), raiding, whatever. No matter how you slice it, wiping honor would have been the same as wiping any other form of currency.
And if people who are currently honor capped and are able to buy a couple pieces of pvp gear when they hit 80, so what? Worst case scenario, that puts them a week or two against the majority of WoW players. Certainly not the end of the world.
lazarel Oct 1st 2008 9:59AM
Not everyone that has honor got it by AFKing in AV... So try not to paint everyone with the same brush.
As for justification for keeping honor that has been earned... Everything else I have earned I get to keep, why not honor? Are the people who farm gold on a daily basis going to have it wiped? Why should a guy who logs on every day only to do dailies get a headstart on buying things in Wrath... just because he was grinding before Wrath came out?
Seriously, it's so not worth getting upset about... it's not that much honor anyway.
And really... do you call it a headstart if you don't use it until you hit 80?
Netherscourge Oct 1st 2008 9:53AM
I think it sucks for the people who blew all their honor the past day or so because Blizzard told them it was "use it or lose it"... and then a day later Blizzard goes and says "On second thought, we changed our minds. You can carry your honor and marks over into WOTLK..."
Sheesh - talk about a real F-job there.
Blizzard flip-flops more then John Kerry...
