Breakfast Topic: Resurrecting old events
The upcoming patch 3.02 looks like it has a formal name now -- "Echoes of Doom," according to the EU site -- and players have wondered for a while whether Blizzard is going to bring back the Scourge Invasion event. This was an event that went live with the introduction of the original 40-man Naxxramas in patch 1.11 and saw Scourge troops appear all over Azeroth and even within major cities. It was one of Blizzard's early experiments programming world content that could be directly affected by players (in a roundabout way you can trace the underlying philosophy behind phasing to the success of events like these), and was a huge hit that's left players inquiring on the likelihood of its reappearance ever since. As a player who started after Burning Crusade launched, I have to admit I would love the chance to see this, if for no other reason than having a shot at getting my main the rather good-looking Tabard of the Argent Dawn. But, cool tabard or not, the event is pretty thematically consistent with the content being released in Wrath of the Lich King, and the 3.02 patch is expressly meant to transition players into the expansion as seamlessly as possible. You could argue that Blizzard's never going to get a more opportune or relevant time to marshal the undead NPC's, but you could counter by pointing out that redeploying content originally meant to be a unique event diminishes its impact a tad. If it were re-programmed with additional exapansion-related content? Maybe, although I get the feeling the developers may be somewhat occupied at the moment. Either way, is there any obligation on Blizzard's part to try to re-run old content for the benefit of newer players?

I also missed the original one, I quit before BC and before Naxx and came back only a few months ago again. So this content would be fresh and new to me - I'd love to see it!

I started on day 1 rolling a char and reserving the name as soon as the servers became available. Then I got burnt out on loot drama, lame 4o man raids, and being pigeon holed into a cleansebot.
I come back now to play with friends and because the game is mostly improved from that original I played. If taking 3 years off makes someone more l33t than me I can live with that, at least I'm having fun and in the end isn't that why we all play? :D

I never really liked that event, nothing special at all with it tbh

The event was kind of fun but it was nothing amazing. Still, I've been wearing the Argent Dawn tabard ever since then on my paladin and I love it. I hope they don't bring it back just because then everyone will be wearing the tabard and I won't feel as special. lol

You started playing after TBC launced?
You are awful.

As someone who's been playing since year 1 of release, I really gotta say:
Get over yourself.

My wording may have been a mite bit off there due to lack of proper backspaceage.
You get the point, nonetheless. I know people that started playing with TBC that are better than people that have been playing since pre-BC. You're not really as special as you think you are.

@ Mixx - lol!
Though I think it's a good indication that I read WoWinsider too much when I start getting in-jokes about its trolls :)

Sure does sound like that vlad troll. Annoying fellow, he is.

I loved the scourge invasion it made the world a bit more exciting. This time tho I would love level 70s to attack the major citys at various times in the day. I know low levels will suffer a bit but it is a world event!
And to get level 70 people to fight the invaders give some nice loot and gold so that it will be a good fight.

I was just coming up to my early 50s when the event started so I was frustratingly slightly too low to participate properly.
I saw some amazing sights that I had never seen before... such as a frost mage round up an entire "swarm" of scourge on his horse and aoeing them down...

I loved the 1.11 event it was awesome it made you feel like you were in danger leaving or going into a major city. Floating citidels, undead everywhere. Burning Crusade's world event was fun to seeing Kruul run around amuck on the cities.
I am sooooo hoping for an event that will out do those two events :)

Yeah, the floating fortress that was well off the main road, with level 5 mobs was a bit intimidating to me too.
The only cool thing was the mass of high level mobs in UC.

It still makes me sad that I wasn't endgame when the AQ event happened :( That event always looked awesome.
Aimee Oct 2nd 2008 8:46AM
Nahhh don't be upset. Heck I just started the game when that was going on, I remember doing a few turn ins here and there was kinda cool though made ya feel like you were doing something for everyone, kinda a 1940's war effort thing.
They so need to do that again it was fun :)
