[1. Local]: This might as well be Barrens chat
Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week. Be sure to dive into the comments area of each thread (not this one!) and add your own thoughts – unlike your mama, we like us some hot, fresh backtalk.
Do you ever get the feeling that Barren's chat has invaded your living room? Read on to the end of this week's [1. Local] to see why.
Tips for new Death Knights from a fellow melee, part 1
It's not every day that you get to read a letter addressed to the "reanimated angst-puppy hero corpses" that are the Death Knights romping around in Beta. Allison Robert goes on to provide some excellent advice on how not to fail at playing a Death Knight. While some of the comments on Allison's piece provided nearly as good entertainment as the article itself, commenter Morganus sums up what most people thought about advice like not standing in-front of a boss: "As a Druid tank for all of BC and a Hunter prior to that, I have to say this is a fantastic insight into the basics of melee DPS. If you have ever been on the receiving end of a cleave from a parried attack created from a DPS in front of a boss, you would know how frustrating it can be."
Blizzard wins $6 million in court case with MMO Glider
Did you win a $6 million court case this week? Probably not. But Blizzard did, and against their arch-rival and nemesis young nasty man Glider. The might never see the money, but such is life. It's the thought that counts, right? Commenter Rixarch chimes in with what most of us feel on the matter: "About time. People that make the botting programs and such deserve to get the misery that they are inflicting upon the player base that they prey upon."
10-boxing Karazhan: Part 2
While I'm an avid multi-boxer, usually running around with two to three characters, some players are taking it to the extreme next level and 10-boxing Kara. This is a feat worthy of some investigation, and Clegane sums up his thoughts: "It really is a challenge to multi-box. Most people don't realize what an accomplishment it is to get a setup like this going. Getting to 70 with 10 is quite a commitment, let alone nutting it out to clear heroics and bosses in kara. Don't pay attention to these WoW players making fun of someone for playing WoW. They are the just the pot calling the kettle black. Just because someone finds different ways to enjoy the game doesn't make it bad. Gratz on all the work and being able to bring it all the way to endgame content. WoW is meant to be enjoyed. Sounds like you had lots of fun doing this project!"
The last week of Brewfest
Brewfest will be ending tomorrow. Courtney shares my misery as she hasn't seen the Kodo drop either. Maybe we'll all find ourselves lucky before the end: "I've been running it at least 10-15 times a day and I have yet to see the kodo drop once- The ram however has dropped 3 times but it's the same one I got last year so I passed each time. All my toons have nice new trinkets and the brew charms are kinda cool, but I want a kodo!"
Patch 3.0.2 release date revealed
Nethaera revealed that season 4 will be ending on October 14th, and given the previous day's statement that when season 4 will end when patch 3.0.2 comes out, we thus have a date when 3.0.2 will hit the streets. There's a lot changes to come about to the game pretty quickly. VSUReaper chimes in about his lament of doing bear mount runs: "Goody, now I know exactly how much longer I will have to endure my guild struggling to do a timed ZA run in T4-5 gear so that the GM can ninja the bear mount for himself."
My Co-GM of my guild took some time off and missed his opportunity to get a bear mount. Hopefully he'll see this later tonight and decide not to ninja any bears. But I do wish VSUReaper luck in his quest for the bear.
In response to someone saying that date hasn't actually been revealed, and that all we're doing is inferring stuff, reader Jon pulls a bit of Portal on us all: "Don't be sad, companion cube. I'm sorry you had to be euthanized." Perhaps it's time that we all watch Barron Soosdon's video again. The device has been modified. Are you still there?
Salute to the trolls
Finally, I'd like to give a shout out to the trolls of the site this week. I want to thank them for visiting our little corner of the internet so much the past few days, and providing such excellent entertainment for all of us. The staff here has been laughing at your antics, and smiling even harder at the responses of other readers.
Troll Vlad has been insisting for a while that we've been lifting our news from MMO-Champion. Unfortunately, he's incorrect. "STORY COURTESY OF MMO-CHAMPION" seems to be Troll Vlad's rallying cry. Some of our readers have pointed Troll Vlad to the WoW forums and the game files. What amazing things you'll find in there.
Troll Anaughtybear ponders over the Death Knight melee, and also wonders if Allison Robert is indeed a female: "I don't care for how everyone defends Ms. Robert's every action, presumably because she's female (allegedly)." While Allison has denied my request for DNA evidence to prove her biological gender, I am told by inside sources that yes, indeed - she is female. If further investigation is necessary, Gil Grissom will apparently be available to look into it in a few months.
Last and certainly least, Troll Saiforune is campaigning for a few of his beloved troll-able authors to win an award this year. "I have to agree, and Allison just made the 'WoWinsider $%@^%!@#' List, which is surprising, because I never even noticed her posts before hand honestly. Talk to Adam Holliskey! You're both in the running for the 08 Election."
Did anyone notice how trolls can never spell?

Personally, I laughed at the epic fail of Saiforune a lot this week i Allison Robert's Death Knigget post. But a huge shout out of awesomeness really should go to Sky_Paladin, who wrote a reply to Saiforune that was so epically full of fun and win that I actually spotlighted it on my personal blog this week;

Sky_Paladin, if you see this.... bravo. I salute you. And please, oh please, keep that sense of humor, you had me rolling with laughter.
Saiforune Oct 3rd 2008 5:09PM
MY MY MY!!!
This makes the second [1. Local] Post that I have been a part of. The previous was even a picture of my post!
I really feel like I have made a difference. I almost feel like a celebrity!
Love,
Saiforune
P.s.
Adam Don't worry, I'll make sure to spell your name right next time, and if you pay attention it was spelled correctly in all of the latter posts. My apologies.
P.s.s.
I'll be working on your campaign poster this weekend and I'll send it in to you probably on sunday at the earliest.
engrish sensei Oct 3rd 2008 5:43PM
it's P.P.S.
as post-script-script = nonsense
Ktok Oct 3rd 2008 5:44PM
I've been a part of them twice as well. However, my comments were featured for being constructive and well thought out. :)
That being said, if you want to feel a sense of accomplishment for essentially winning "Buffoon of the Week" then by all means, get down with your bad self.
vendrill Oct 4th 2008 12:57PM
Oh, god... not this Saiforune Asshole again!
vendrill Oct 5th 2008 3:35AM
But for the record, even though I don't think highly of Saiforune, it doesn't make me an Adam Holisky fan. For the longest time, Holisky wrote a lot of REALLY BAD articles. He's become a lot less annoying recently, and his articles have gotten better. I don't, however, appreciate this bit of drama-farming.
BigBearButt Oct 3rd 2008 5:15PM
Oh, you're a celebrity, all right. A lot of folks know your name.
In the same way that any galactically stupid person become famous, just be being themselves. It makes the rest of us laugh, and gives us something to talk about around the watercooler.
"Did you read that last comment he wrote? Where he attacked Allison and tried to make some fumbling comparison between her, Adam, and a rapist?"
"Oh God yes, what a moron. What must it be like being him. I wonder?"
"I have no idea, but I bet you get a special hat."
"And when you're upset, you scream APPLE!!!"

Saiforune Oct 3rd 2008 5:20PM
I scream apple when I'm upset and I wear a special hat?
Is that honestly the best you could come up with?
And didn't your mommy and daddy ever teach you to never feed the trolls?
You might get your hand bitten.
Malkeior Oct 3rd 2008 5:35PM
We're not feeding you, we're dangling the carrot in front of your face.
Marc Oct 3rd 2008 5:50PM
Saiforune, you're famous the way Ghyslain is famous.
Hurode Oct 3rd 2008 5:16PM
You are breaking the number one rule of dealing with trolls. DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. Trolls feed on attention, they crave it. By pointing them out on a [1. Local] post, they win. They get what they want. They get a full stomach until they must crawl back out from their caves to feed again...when they stop finding food, they search for a place that will be more bountiful. Like the official forums.
zappo Oct 3rd 2008 5:30PM
"Did anyone notice how trolls can never spell?"
Obviously you guys have never even seen the official forums. It is true that some trolls cannot spell, however one of the most veracious types of trolls are those of the "grammar nazi" clan. Usually they incite some sort of argument, someone replies (with bad grammar or possibly just a typo), and the grammar nazi will jump all over them, questioning their intelligence and command of the English language.
If Allison is an attractive single female I will be willing to bear the burden of verification irl. Just to give angrybear peace of mind of course.
agnoster Oct 3rd 2008 5:50PM
"most veracious types of trolls"
I think you meant "voracious." I am compelled to question your intelligence and command of the English language.
Just kidding! (Though in all seriousness, I hate the "grammar nazi" label. It's actually kind of offensive to compare people who might be a little bit stringent about their insistence on proper English to, you know, people who organized and perpetrated the calculated extermination of millions upon millions of human beings. You don't think that's a bit... cheap?)
zappo Oct 3rd 2008 7:50PM
'I think you meant "voracious." '
Maybe. I don't know what that means actually. I just go to thesaurus.com and look for random long adjectives to sound smarter.
Other offensive terms I often use:
'Attention whore' and 'Grand Pooba' (wait a few years, it'll offend someone).
agnoster Oct 3rd 2008 8:54PM
Oh, well I guess as long as you're ignorant and offensive on purpose, that's okay. MY BAD.
zappo Oct 3rd 2008 9:39PM
Interesting, veracious is actually a word. That's the problem with spell checkers, if you don't know how to spell something and two words are almost the same, how would you really know which to pick?
Strangely it still works. I hate it when I'm right and I don't know what I'm actually talking about.
Feanora Oct 3rd 2008 5:31PM
The insensitivity in this article! Outrageous! Scandalous!
Those pictures are clearly goblins, not trolls. Appalling!
Stealthfire Oct 3rd 2008 5:32PM
/wave BBB. Was just gonna make my daily trip to your blog and here you are!
However, Hurode makes a good point. As Saiforune just proved, trolls will be drawn to this like moths to a flame.
Personally I find no problem in any of Allison Robert's posts, and think that most of them are very insightful. But I'd rather stay out of this so...carry on.

Very funny, made the cave troll giggle.
