Breakfast Topic: So what sorta pet are you gonna get?

As you already know, patch 3.02, also known as "Echoes of Doom Doom do Doom Doom", will bring with it all those nifty changes to hunter pets' abilities and talents, in addition to doom. Beast Mastery hunters are even getting especially special pets in the form of Exotic Pets through their 51-talent point, called Beast Mastery. Some Beast Mastery hunters will not be getting the Beast Mastery talent, however, because they feel like the coolness of the pet plus a few extra pet talent points do not a worthy 51-talent point make. Other Beast Mastery hunters are just like, "WHOA! Did you see that friggin Core Hound?!" Still other Beast Mastery hunters find the booming sound of Exotic Pet footfalls far too loud, or for other reasons simply prefer normal pets: "Dude, I'm gonna get me a Gorilladin!" or "I've always seen myself as a Pink Flamingo Hunter, and now my hour of destiny has arrived at last!"
So what sorta pet are you gonna get? And why? I'm still undecided myself. I've always enjoyed my Owl most of all, but I'm not tremendously impressed with its new disarm skill in Wrath, since its usefulness seems too limited for my taste. The exotic pets are sometimes really nice looking (like the Spirit Beasts), but sometimes have too much of that "grumpy stompy" look (like Core Hounds) -- though I admit some of those abilities they have are very tempting. I might get used to them, or I might end up going with a Beast Mastery talent build without the Beast Mastery talent, in order to have a wider selection of pets to choose from (in addition to scatter shot). In fact, while writing this post, I just realized how utterly clueless I am about which pets I'll like best. I really have to try them out. Do you have some better idea of what you'll prefer?

I've already tamed a bear in anticipation for the patch. I've always wanted my very own feral druid tank. I'll keep my raptor around, though, for instances and other situations where I want a DPS pet instead of a tanking pet.

Well, I've been running around with a Mulgore wolf (first pet), a purple tallstrider (one of the first on our server - got a LOT of questions about him), and a snow leopard from Dun Morogh (made 800g leveling him up from level 8-70 >.

Devilsaur for me - had a play around with them on the PTR, and they're lots of fun.
The stamping noise they make is cool as well, though I may get tired of that...

While I'm still 70, I'm switching my old Ravager for a Wasp. Their family skill is a-we-so-me.
But at 80 I'm definetely getting me a good ol'Devilsaur.
Gormaggus Oct 3rd 2008 9:14AM
Gorilladin for the win :D
Phil Oct 3rd 2008 9:17AM
A silithid, once I'm able to do so, but my primary pet will remain my trusty crocolisk.

I'm not sure I will be properly playing with the talent trees until Wrath hits, when I have extra talents points as opposed to reshuffling the ones i have now.
I'll probably stick with my wolf largely, but I gotta try me a Gorriladin, that looks sick.
And definately gonna get me an owl too. But can anyone tell me, can I ask it to stay in a tree and warn me when enemies approach? ;-)

My list for LK was:
1. Gorilla
2. Bat/Chimera
3. Wolf
4. Devilsaur
5. Cat/Spirit Beast
However, the more I think about Rhino, the more I can't helpe but think that they'd make an awesome PVP pet. My only question is, does the charge interupt casting? Anyone know?
Ahoni Oct 3rd 2008 9:32AM
Wasp for DPS
Gorilla for tanking.
Possibly a Hyena for PvP.
Then again, I may change my mind tomorrow.
pudds Oct 3rd 2008 9:40AM
Devilsaur for solo grinding.
Gorilla for farming.
Rhino for PvP.
Mephator Oct 3rd 2008 9:45AM
Devilsaur or Spirit Beast.
Wistin Oct 3rd 2008 9:45AM
I forsee keeping my panther.
I will also get a rhino.
I'm not one of those hunters that will be needing five pet stables slots.
morgil Oct 3rd 2008 9:51AM
I've always thought the red Nether Rays in SMV looked awesome.
Sarem Oct 3rd 2008 9:52AM
Ive heard whispers and rumors of a spider pet with an ensnare, Anyone able to confirm or deny this?
I mean , deep down it wont matter since every hunter is horrible but still that would be a little bit unfair for them to have a 4th root/snare.

Well ive almost been drawn to the darkside (BM) with all that promise of great new pets noone can live without, but at the sametime ive been a SV for ages, and that new fire arrow thingy looks pretty nifty too. I think ill stay with the classics instead and just enjoy the two new slots in the stable and the 5 level below routine. So my pets are probably gonna look like this:
1. Senior (tankpet) - my trusted Crocolisk. Had him for ages, lovely tank, cant see why people always skip the crocs.
2. Harold (raid dps) - my beautiful owl. Love it, wouldnt want to get rid of him.
3. Bernhard (dps) - nice grey/blackstriped cat. Probably the first to go if i ever need the space.
4. A gorilla, probably the white one. Looks cool, love it.
5. Last place is either crab or a turtle. Cant decide. Just nice to know that can finally get one withoout having to level it for 40 levels.. and they look pretty.
Yeahm, so asyou might have gathered,m i havent pondered the whole new skill system that much, so pretty much picking the pets by looks (and to some extent diversity). Learning by doing, its all just fun and games :)

Get a crab. Name it Ghostcrawler. DO IT!
FoxOfWar Oct 3rd 2008 9:56AM
Dunno. Gonna at least level my beloved tallstrider Hotah(a white one, because if someone has a tallstrider, it's either Mazzrache or Clutchmother - white is the most common colour, yet it's the one seen the least because of it!) - and my white wind serpent Hayoc(the rare one I hunted because it didn't have caster stats... although it's a moot point now xD). As mostly a Survival hunter, probably going to stick with an off-tanky non-exotic Tenacity pet(crocolisks are kinda cool) that has to be white. Because I can.
Ideally, with five available pet slots, probably going to have two of each Ferocity/Tenacity/Cunning pets, three of which Exotic for my off-spec BM. Some Exotic pets are just too cool to pass up(here's looking at you, Rhino)...
Jason Oct 3rd 2008 11:17AM
I will be taking the 51 point Beast Mastery talent. Since Stable Masters will have 4 slots instead of 2 I'll probably go all Pokemon and get one of each type and a couple of Exotic pets.
Definitely getting a Gorilladin & a Hyena. On the Exotic side the Silithid looks to be great with its Web and Nature DoT.
Gimmlette Oct 3rd 2008 10:19AM
In the beta, even with the ability to get an exotic, I am sticking with UrsaMajor who was my very first pet, a Loch Modan bear. We've done everything together and I just can't see replacing him. I will level him to 80 first. I have a wind serpent for PvP and I can see him being the first to leave as I experiment with other pets for PvP. I also have a Zul'Gurub tiger and I will probably keep him just because I like him.
One exotic pet is going to be a guild vote just because I'll get all the stable slots so I can try out the various new pets and their skills. Having seen the rhinos, I'm not that keen on them and I won't be getting a Gorilladin simply because "everyone" will have one. I'm kind of leaning toward a Wintersprings Chimera. I've always liked how they look.
