Breakfast Topic: Last minute preparations
When Wrath comes, I'm pretty much abandoning my Druid. He's served me well through Battlegrounds, Arenas, and 10,20, and 40 man raiding, but be it burn out on Druids in general or just the need for the change of pace, he's fallen by the wayside. My Hunter is my main now, and my Death Knight will be a co-main come Wrath of the Lich King. Despite this, I'm actually playing my Druid quite a lot these days. Why? Because I just have to get the Guardian of Cenarius title for him, and I'm still a few thousand points shy of Exalted with Cenarion Circle reputation. It may seem to weird to be putting so much work into a character I'm not going to play for quite a while once Wrath comes out, but I feel like I owe it to him. He still has a rich, ongoing roleplaying backstory, and he's still been through a lot with me. So getting him to the pinnacle of Druidism is easily the best tribute I can think of. So he's in Silithus, slaughtering Twilight Cultists by the bucketload, looking for those Encrypted Twilight Texts.
In addition, of course, I'm preparing for the 3.0.2 patch and Wrath in other ways. I already have enough Bog Lord Tendrils and Unidentified Plant Parts for my Death Knight to get a foothold in Zangarmarsh, and I'm gathering Arrakoa Feathers as well. If I have time, I may also gather a bunch of herbs and let my DK powerlevel inscription.
Now that we're probably about 10 days away from 3.0.2, how are your preparations coming? I know a lot of you probably chimed in with your goals for pre-Wrath a few weeks back.. Are you making any progress on them, or are you like me, scrambling for those last few points of Cenarion Circle reputation before next Tuesday?

I've got my "Ambassador" title, my skunk and my albino drake all lined up. I'm still working on stuff, to keep from ggrowing ultimately bored with things... But, at this point, everything else is just icing on the cake.

The ONLY thing I'm doing in WoW atm is Pvping my 60Rogue. Alot more fun than Pvping with a 70char.

At one point I was pretty excited about achievements and titles. I remember in Guild Wars when titles came out and I was a 'master cartographer' the moment that patch loaded. The big difference was that they had not announced it weeks ahead of time. I had that title not from simply going out and trying to get it, but from how I had played the game. I had actually earned it.
The clock turns ahead 2.5 years..
Fully three weeks before the patch in which these titles will take effect, it is very nearly impossible to do any of the Timbermaw quests at their stated level. Why? The zones are full of 70s 'grinding' the rep to get the title. Is it easy for a 70 to run around and tap all the mobs so a level 50-60 can't get any? Yes :) And not only is it easy for them, but they do it, again and again.

I knocked out my furlbog rep in off hours, and grouped with people who said they needed the quest in that area done. Having your own goals doesn't ALWAYS make someone a jerk.
My goals now are to collect the 50 pets needed for the skunk. In two days, with the BOP ones from events I'd already picked up, I'm at over 40. It looks like I'll be finding a new goal soon.

You sir, are to be commended!! This is truly the behaviour of someone worthy of the title Diplomat :)

My main goals before the expansion are to get my new mage alt (which I'll be using for Inscription) as high as possible with as large a collection of herbs as possible, and to get as much money as possible on my main.
I don't have any specific goals, like get 5000 gold on my main, as my schedule's so on-and-off there's no way I could hit something like that. I'm just preparing as best I can.
Vinicius O. E. Oct 4th 2008 10:36PM
I have exactly the same goal but I'm already prepared for that. I took herbalism on my mage alt (level 60) and saved a lot of herbs in the bank. I'm planning to level up inscription from 1-375 in one day =D

I'm scrambling to level my alt, a rogue, to 70 because after 3.0 I can't get the feat of strength for poisons. Other than that, I need to re-level mining on my main.
supersaint Oct 4th 2008 11:29AM
You people have way too much time on your hands. I'll just wait until the expansion hits, and go from there.

I'm just hanging around, doing nothing important because I'm praying for a new RP server. Yes, I know about re-roll locusts, and I know there's a pack of low-pop servers that are slowly dying (and would probably benefit from being the recipient of some free transfers from the high-pop places), but Whaah! I want a new server! Whaah!
Is this really so wrong?

Yes

I refuse to make this game feel like a dang job! Once you make it a point to GRIND your way through all these factions and working your butt off for money, saving feathers...etc etc... the game has become a second job. Just fricken wait till the expansion comes out and play the game like a normal rational person and you will greatly stretch your fun in this game and not burn out like so many seem to be doing right now.
Balius Oct 4th 2008 2:06PM
The people burning out are the people who don't have a goal right now.
If you don't want to grind factions or find special items or do ANYTHING you don't enjoy, don't. Play the way you want to play, the way you enjoy.
But some people do want to reach that special little carrot, and enjoy working toward getting it. For some people, raiding is the chore and equates to an unpaid second job. For others, PVP is the worst grind in the game and puts them off. If you enjoy it, it isn't a job, and it's nobody's business judging someone for doing what they enjoy unless it hurts someone.

I am in the same boat as you. pre bc I played a healer for end game raiding/pvp. TBC I did the same thing. So I am putting my pally to rest (horde), my pre bc healer was put to rest a long time ago. But I find myself playing my pally alot the past few days. Last night I was in bootybay getting my snazy outfit. Last weekend it was about getting old school heads (after all my pally is bloodelf), like Neph, Ony, Hakkar. The rest of this weekend I am going to finish of my thunderbluff rep and maybe a few others.
I really like the achievement system, and I am glad we heard about it now, since most guilds stopped raiding until wrath.
Codexx Oct 5th 2008 1:37AM
I need to run 3 heroics, down Nightbane and Mags in the next 10 days.
I'm royally screwed if I think I'm getting the "Champion of the Naaru" trial.
Kadathwack Oct 4th 2008 7:46PM
I've been stockpiling lower level herbs, to hopefully make a windfall profit on leveling Inscriptors. I do have my eyes on the "Guardian of Cenarius" title as well, so I'm working toward that.
chonammoth Oct 4th 2008 3:25PM
Currently I'm going to finish getting my fishing and cooking up to 375 then get my weapon skills to max before they nerf the easy ways of doing that and then I am going to finish netherwing rep and do any other rep I have time for after that
FoxOfWar Oct 4th 2008 4:43PM
Mining mats to get my main(prot warrior) to be an armosmith of at least 350 skill when Wrath hits.
Getting the same warrior Exalted with CE, in preparation to getting her the Hippogryph mount, whenever I happen to get money for it.
Getting my hunter to Outland.
Those are mine firsts, but no the only ones... :)
Vinicius O. E. Oct 4th 2008 10:27PM
I'm leveling a prot paly (current at level 45, gaining 2 levels every day). When Wrath comes I'll respec my prot warrior to take Titan's Grip and this paly (hopefully level 70 by the release date) will be my new tank.

As I rerolled onto a new server about 3 months ago I'm getting all 9 classes up to 60 in anticipation for the xp changes from 60-70. Recruit-a-friend FTW. It's a lot of fun starting from nothing. I started on a PvP server on the day WoW was released, got burned out raiding MC, moved to a PvE server when TBC was released, got burned out raiding, now I'm back on a PvP server, what happens next? :p
