Tigole confirms dual specs are still in the works
Many people have been wondering about when the promised dual specs will appear in the beta. For those that don't remember, back at the World Wide Invitational the developers said that they would be rolling out the ability for players to switch easily and quickly between multiple specs. At the time one of the main points was that these quick changes between specs would not require gold.Tigole confirmed last night that dual specs are currently being worked on. They are figuring out all the details internally still (which is a good thing). When a poster asked "I imagine by this stage we wouldn't see it until a patch after release?" Tigole replied "Most likely in a patch but it's not too far off."
Now you can interpret that different ways. Perhaps he means in a beta patch or a patch immediately following Wrath's release. Either way the fact that these dual specs will eventually be here will make many people quite happy.
Last night I was talking to some guild mates about it and the word that was thrown around was "game changing" for Protection Warriors and other low DPS specs. Since the Protection Warrior would just be able to flip into a DPS spec for farming, he would no longer need a farming alt – significantly changing the way the game is played.

MMO Already posted on this, so be on the look out for Vlad.
On a more serious note; That's great since I could easily change between my PvE and PvP Ret specs :P

Thank you thank you! Now when he inevitably posts, I can say "lols way to copy ppl noob malkeior already posted this like 3 hours ago Vlad sux he should be band from this site huk huk"

Way to pre-empt the troll! I like.

These should have existed since day one really. Respecs being an unnecssary gold sink and constant inconvience.
Of course now that we'll all be filthy rich in the expac, the and fifty gold respec cost is meaningless but hey here's blizzard to the rescue....hurrah!
Azaela Oct 4th 2008 2:24PM
There is going to have to be some catch though, a flat cost but lower, only usable at max level after paying a fee or doing a quest, having to talk to a special trainer to do it every time. It can't just be a free switch any time, any place you want it.

Better late than never I say. This is a great idea, and helps me from wanting to roll a duplicate of the same class just for a different spec.
I just really want them to work on a calculator like WoWHead's where clicking on a talent wont screw you if you accidentally take the wrong one. You should be able to allocate the points and then right click them-- and when youve settled on a good build or allocation, hit 'Okay'.
Also, a more responsive calculator would be nice, but that's just nitpicky. Im sure it has to do with the game updating the stats and what not.

this addon http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/07/20/addon-spotlight-talented/
does basically what you are looking for...I agree it would be nice if it was part of the basic UI, but this is a very nice addon until that happens. As someone who is constantly respeccing his multiple toons I was so glad to see this on addon spotlight and it has been such a help since then.

Thanks Cetha, I'll check that out. Thankfully, I dont respec all that much-- but that should definitely come in handy if I ever need it.

I'd also like to see this as a reward from a quest or smth like that.
And after that you go to a NPC who changes your spec and gives you all the skills that come with the spec...
Hoggersbud Oct 4th 2008 2:48PM
Well, giving you all the skills of the new spec isn't needed any more since they did make it so that when you learn a spell, it stays learned, even if you re-spec and dump the talent.
Now the problem of dealing with your action bars is another matter, but I've got an addon to deal with that. Bless you SimpleActionSets. Bless you!

If you've already respec'd on live, you automatically know all the spells you've been taught before. You don't have to go retrain them every time.
This is a great idea.

Can't wait for this change, I hope it's just as easy as I want it to be that you can switch on the fly, anytime.
Playing a Feral Druid I'm pretty spoiled that I should be able to DPS and tank with one optimal specc, but since the bloat is there and some interesting stuff is in I'd have to respecc fairly often.
Although I agree some kind of lvl 80 questline or moneysink is in order, and of course some kind of cooldown and disabling it in PvP.

Will be playing as a holy paladin and attempting to level with that just to help the guild and friends, the really sucky thing is that my dps will be completely crap.
Shamans can do reasonable dps with the same gear for elemental and resto, but as a paladin it just dosn't workout like that *at all*. Would really welcome this change asap, it'll remove the need for respeccing and having to go through that task of putting points in their places (having duel specs would probably mean pre-defining 2 different specs most likely right?)
Want it now!
Chris Oct 4th 2008 3:39PM
Check out the PTR. Holy pallies are shockadins by default with a Holy Shock with 6sec cooldown. Combine that with spell dmg changes and it's a much improved situation, indeed.
Brandon Oct 4th 2008 2:56PM
This will be game changing and epic for Full Resto classes like me. Hopefully it can be done from the interface and just has a 2 hour cooldown or something like that.
It shouldn't give you a game advantage (like changing on the fly) but should be a HUGE convenience upgrade. I like a lot!

"Last night I was talking to some guild mates about it and the word that was thrown around was "game changing" for Protection Warriors and other low DPS specs"
FYI Prot is no longer a low DPS spec. I plan on leveling as prot and introducing my shield to a lot of my new friends' faces.
Cable Oct 4th 2008 3:03PM
Does this sentiment apply to protection paladins as well or are you only speaking about warriors?
Eternauta Oct 4th 2008 3:24PM
If they remove respeccing costs, I'll be happy.
(or reduce 'em to just 1g).
I liked the idea that was floating around the first days after World Wide Invitational, that 'you could choose two specs and store them, so you can switch between them aoutomatically and with no costs (but you have to be at your class trainer, so you can't change 'on the fly' and take unfair advantages in pvp).
My 2 copper.

Did you even understand what this news is about? :)
Justin Oct 4th 2008 3:55PM
mabeye they should make a 30 minute rez sickness type thing if you switch to the other spec, to prevent switching on the fly.
