Around Azeroth: What are you staring at?
Hey! Don't look at me like that. I'm not a piece of decaying, greenish meat. I'm the Queen of the Forsaken! I can hit your heart with my arrows from a mile away, or send my undead minions to devour your flesh. Your ... soft, warm, living flesh, with the muscles and the hair and ... hmm. Well, now that I think about it, I should be more welcoming to visitors. And it's been a while since anyone looked at me like that. How would you like a guided tour of the Apothecarium? I think there's an empty cage down there we can ... chat in.
George sent us this image from the Wrath of the Lich King beta -- and we'd love to have your beta screenshots, too! If you have anything our readers might like, beta or not, sharing it is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. No more battleground scoreboards, please. Note regarding spoiler cuts: I'm using them for lore-related shots, as they can "spoil" the plot, but not for general landscape pics from Wrath.

I like the new model. I hope all the faction leaders get to look a little more unique.

Neat pose. I'm really impressed by what they've done with the character models, and it makes me hope that we see a lot more makeovers in the future.
That said, what about this is spoilerish?
Mayorga Oct 6th 2008 10:19AM
Now that's the badass Sylvanas I've been waiting for
Reinard Oct 6th 2008 10:20AM
Eh. There's nothing spoiler-y about this at all, and everyone who whined about it...well, waaaahhhh :\ This is Sylvanas. This is how she's SUPPOSED to look. This is how she looked in WC3, and should have looked since release. There's no spoiler.
That said, she's freakin' hot. Bow-chika-honk-honk.

I'd tap that.

The implied necrophilia is disturbing, but then that may just be my horibbly twisted mind. I have to say though, that the new models are pretty sweet, especially when compared to what they looked like previously. Hopefully Blizzard will get round to that 'graphical update' they promised sooner, rather than later.

4 decent looking leaders down (Draenei, Bloodelf, Human, Forsaken) and 6 to go (Tauren, Gnome, Dwarf, Troll, Night Elf, Orc).
Reinard Oct 6th 2008 10:56AM
Blood elf? As much as I dig Lor'themar, he...isn't impressive in the least, unfortunately. Combine that with the fact that he's the only racial leader without his own voiceovers.
And dwarf? Magni looks awesome!
IanC Oct 6th 2008 11:42AM
I thought the gnome leader looked pretty good, from what i saw of him at Brewfest.
MinotaBoomking Oct 6th 2008 10:42AM
okey, let's face it, undead can be hot :P
Eishen Oct 6th 2008 10:53AM
My Blood Elf Mage is considering lichdom from a new perspective...
RetPallyJil Oct 6th 2008 11:00AM
Haha and she's famous too!
Go for it, elfboy!
Blackhorn Oct 6th 2008 11:01AM
Gee.. what sets this hot piece of carrion apart from the rest of the undead?
No protruding bones and missing chunks of flesh.
Personally, I wouldn't have been upset if the forsaken just looked like slightly deadish humans. After all, the plague that started it all didn't leave corpses sitting around long enough to rot away, they would reanimate instantly.
HAY BLIZZ? Can I can me a forsaken model that hasn't been rotting for months? Or just one that doesn't make my 3000g, hand-crafted epic cloth gear look like tattered rags? Thanks bud.
Reinard Oct 6th 2008 11:07AM
Well, if you wanna get really picky, the Plague in WC3 seemed to instantly turn everyone into ghouls. Like, really. Immediately. You came in contact with the plague? Well, shit, yer a ghoul now.
Just be happy they gave the Forsaken some of their skin...and...face...back :(
I kid, though, I kid. I wouldn't mind them looking a little less...like that. But if you want to get really technical, WoW takes place...4 years...? after WC3, and your level 1 Forsaken character just sorta...wakes up in a crypt. Plenty of time to rot. Then again, they'd probably have rotted a lot more than that in four years...
I'm done now, I swear ._.

The exposed joints, and the broken armor to accommodate them, is one of the biggest reasons I don't play undead much. They're visually unappealing, and there's NOTHING the player can do to fix that. I'm not saying they need to be pretty, but making them look good would be just SUPER.
Ideally, a player could customize the level of decay, but the way WoW skins armor would man brand new models of every piece of armor in the game. They could always recolor models of all the other races for a better option and minimal work, but I imagine that doing so would infuriate all the alliance players who wouldn't have similar customization. The forums were outraged about a ram mount being given to the horde last brewfest, even though there were more horde mount models available to alliance at the time (and still are now).

Reroll Chinese servers? Fairly sure Blizzard had to cut back on the exposed bones their due to some odd rules about portrayal of exposed flesh in media.
