BigRedKitty: Crab, Cat, and Serpent
Daniel Howell contributes BigRedKitty, a column with strategies, tips and tricks for and about the Hunter class, sprinkled with a healthy dose of completely improper, sometimes libelous, personal commentary.
We've seen the Age of the Scorpid, but Crabs have always been a bit of a rarity. They're Tenacity pets in Wrath of the Lich King, and you may find their Pin spell to your liking.
Cats? Nobody uses cats, do they? Nah. But just for historical purposes, we'll show you Cats in WotLK too.
Do you think you could use a hunter-pet that permanently reduces a caster's cast-time by 50%? Look at Serpents, their Poison Spit, and dare to dream.
You are invited to download the YouTube version (81MB) of this movie here, and the full-sized version (120MB) here.
As always, a great big Thank You to the WoW Insider editors for allowing us to publish this movie both here and on our little blog at the same time!

Oh BRK, how i love thee...
Nick S Oct 6th 2008 9:31AM
Love these videos (and BRK in general.)
Wouldn't it be cool if there were fun videos like this for other classes on the site?
Frank Oct 6th 2008 9:57AM
hear hear!
Rugus Oct 6th 2008 10:40AM
Are there fun sites like BRK for other classes?
Actuality Oct 6th 2008 9:43AM
As usual BRK is awesome! So much so that when I start playing the game again I plan to level a hunter :)
Hua Oct 6th 2008 9:46AM
Hey BRK! at the beginning of this you said you were using an auto-steady rotation. Are you using a macro for this, or just spamming steady shot?
Blackhorn Oct 6th 2008 10:55AM
I haven't kept current with hunters, but I do remember reading that Steady Shot would no longer clip Auto-shot... meaning you should just be able to spam steady shot as often as you can.

Poison Spit? It's a DoT... AND Curse of Tongues.
So Hunters can now tame Warlocks XD
Naix Oct 6th 2008 9:54AM
Great video BRK. Keep them coming your army of hunter followers commands it!

Cool video as ever. But what if we had hunter's columns speaking of class mechanics, news, buffs & nerfs ?
According to you, hunters in wotlk are going to have fancy pets. They're beautiful. And it seems like, with fancy pets, devs can do whatever they want on our talents trees and spells. We stay focused on the shiny pets. Ooooh, it purred at me, how cute.
I could play pokemons with my hunter already. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about survival being assraped, and mana issues, and that "useless" new spell, and how changes are coherent or not, and how hunters will compete in arenas, and how the spec changes will make us wanted in raids or not, and how "utility" classes have their dps boosted and so how "dps" classes may have upped utilities, and will hunters compete, while their traps are quite useless in raids, and how stuff will be sooo cool then, or will it be made for shamans and hunters are screwed ... All these things, topics, and chitchat when an Xpac is about to launch with massive changes.
And pets, too, don't get me wrong. I did play pokemons, I did love my shiny pets. And I'll do more as possibilities have expanded. And I'm glad, for examples, to see that gorillas are quite shiny AND useful.
But hopefully, any given pet is here to support its master, the hunter himself. The dude supposed to shoot arrows and lay traps and do big damages while mashing his macro, then /taunt at the casters.
So what about that hunter dude ? Is he well ? We only hear about his pets nowadays.
I'd rather have these "weekly trends on pets" articles when the game is out and we can effectively go and tame a new one every time you promote it on video.

Its called scattered shots.
Nick S Oct 6th 2008 11:45AM
Wall of text crits you for 15.5k (Shadow).
You die.
Seriously, though, talking about shiny pets does ignore the more-important performance issues that Hunters will face. But I don't come here for technical discussion; that's where Elitist Jerks' forums come in. WI is for fluff, and that's probably for the best.
Illirien Oct 6th 2008 12:08PM
@Nick... hilarious! I plan to use that Wall of Text attack as often as possible.
well.. not the attack.. but your response.. you know what I mean.
Nikkodemus Oct 6th 2008 12:47PM
While your points are valid, consider that those concerns matter to EVERY class. So what about Hunters makes them unique from every other DPS class? That would be Pets, and thus, that is why people like to talk about them.
What made people choose to play a Hunter vs. say a Mage, or a Rogue, or whatever? Odds are it was because the Pet concept was appealing and satisfying.
The Devs could address EVERY concern that you have, and "fix" every issue, but if alongside that they said "And Pets will go away" or even just "And now there will be ONE pet, with one graphic, a random name, and identical stats" people would go ballistic. Because to them the concept of unique pets is so integral to what they want out of the class.

Why does BRK speak in the second person? I've met RPers who will refer to their character as it's own entity but BRK doesn't seem to RP
Eversor Oct 6th 2008 11:55AM
I believe the "we" means not him, but hunters as whole.
Illirien Oct 6th 2008 12:10PM
He's actually Bob Dole.
RyuHakubi Oct 7th 2008 12:17AM
Tis not second person. His use of "We" is first person plural, and it refers to his philosophy that a hunter is the sum of both the hunter and their pet. The two combined are a whole, thus, "we."
Grimshod Oct 6th 2008 12:34PM
I seem to recall him addressing this at one point, that the "we" is him and his pet. (Or I could be imagining this.)
Jurgi Oct 6th 2008 11:41AM
He's like Duffman or Disco Stu.
