I am a Death Knight that leveled from 55 to 80 Blood, ran some heroics, got some gear, and decided to spec frost for tanking. When i was rarely called upon to tank as I leveled, i found that death knight tanking is really not that hard, as long as your group is aware if you are not necessarily specced for tanking. I would skull caster, death grip, and immediatley drop a death and decay. This, with my Frost Pressence, would aggro anything that decided to walk by me, no matter if the healer was healing or not. Then, either death grip or dark command anything that was deciding to break aggro, and you are set. Your dps has to move slightly slower because your aggro isn't as solid as a pure tank, and your healer might have to work a little bit harder because you are geared for dealing damage, not avoiding it, but for most 5-mans, your death knight does not have to be frost spec to tank. Also, MANY times during an instance, not to toot my own horn, but I would save the group from a wipe if the tank died because i could pop on frost presence right away, drop a Death and Decay, and have aggro on all mobs almost instantly. Then, cast an Icebound fortitude and wait for the healer to catch up with what just happened. All in all, Death knights are amazing to have in a group as either tank or dps, utilizing the tanking styles of all three previous tanking classes while also keeping serious dps.
