Blizzard is doing this to compete with Warhammer. In WAR even guilds have Exp bars. I just found that out myself...kind of a cool idea.

to compete with what? Guild exp has been present in many mmorpgs before Warhammer.

EQ2 has had guild XP bars for over 4 years. Big whoop. Guild xp/rep gets you better prices from vendors, bigger guild halls, more bank storage, stuff like that.
