World of Warcraft mouse available for pre-order

Aside from the unique form factor and slick brushed metal enclosure, the $99.99 price tag will give players the ability to make macros with up to 160 characters, a whopping total of fifteen (oh man!) programmable buttons, the ability to drag-and-drop macros, and -- get this -- 16 million illumination choices with 3 intensity and pulsation levels. I have absolutely no idea what that last part means, but it sounds pretty wicked. Probably unnecessary and overboard, but wicked nonetheless.
The mouse, the first ever designed purely for playing World of Warcraft, promises to be beneficial to all players regardless of style or level of play. [CLARIFICATION: It probably works for other applications or games, but it's the first mouse designed from the ground up specifically for playing WoW] Looking like the bastard love child of a Worn Turtle Shield and Tim Burton's cocooned 1989 Batmobile, the mouse will start shipping on November 13 -- around the same time as some sort of game expansion, I think. It's all pretty cool, and I'm just about sold despite the stupefying price tag... I've just got one question: will it work on a Mac?

That thing looks huge! Why do all the gaming mice seem to be made for people with gigantic hands? I think I'll stick with my Razer Copperhead, which is already a little too big for me. And I'm quite happy with "only" seven buttons on my mouse.

I like it, and i'm a sucker for shiny things, (ooooh! Lights!) but $100 is about £50 pounds i guess. Which is about what i paid for the logitech MX Revolution I'm using now.
10 customisable buttons, works perfectly on a mac, and is wireless. I dont think i'l be chopping it in for the WoW mouse no matter how pretty the lights are.

I'll stick with my Logitech G9. :)

I spoke to a rep at the booth today who said that mac support is coming, but not yet, maybe in the new year.
he said they're trying as hard as they can to get the mac drivers up & running.

I currently use a Logitech with 12 buttons, and would love to get a mouse with even more, as all 12 of my buttons are already hotkeyed to one WoW thing or another, including Ventrilo.
Just adding an extra 4 buttons would definitely be nice, but replacing my $150 mouse with $100 one just to get 4 more buttons seems a little pricey. I would love to find a 20- or 24-button mouse for around $100-$150, though.

I've paid a lot for my mice in the past, in fact I am definetly in the market for a new mouse. I may get some weird looks about this but the one huge downside for me is that this thing is a wired ball mouse for 100. I can't afford to have any more dang wires around. The extra buttons are pretty nice and I do like the look of it. Well the metal look and the lights it has sounds pretty nice. But I just don't know about paying 100 for a wire mouse :(

I agree $100 is a lot for a wired mouse, but who said it was a ball mouse? Do they even make those anymore?
Darkharmony Oct 11th 2008 2:10PM
Good point jeffgonz I typed before I researched lol. Sorry bout that :)

I spoke to one of the reps today at Blizzcon and there will be no Mac drivers available at launch in Nov. They are working on Mac drivers but they will not be available until early 2009.
Verit Oct 11th 2008 2:36AM
So I checked this out at blizzcon - its definately not worth 100$ - it feels cheap, and has a crappy middle mouse button.

Think I'll stick to my Logitech MX500 series. Gotten so used to it that I'd be fumbling to learn a new mouse, and that one just looks like a toy for little kiddies. Look, I got strobe lights underneath my car, and on my miz-ouse.
Kitteh, Twilights Hammer EU Oct 12th 2008 4:04AM
DO like the look of this. There's no real reason why they couldn't mount a d-pad style control to the side of the mouse, something I wish i'd have through of.
Currently going the other way and designing a controller to be used in addition to the keyboard (tho for right handed folk only atm).

Another rip-off people fall for.
Hilarious...

My god thats a sweet mouse, I use the MX revolution and its 9 buttons are a godsend for keybinding, but 16 buttons? And a WOW styled design? Thats really tempting. :p A bit pricey though, tbh.
Virulina Oct 11th 2008 7:18AM
Yes? will it work on a MAC?
most things like this never do. But hopefully as its built for WOW and there are a lot of us who play on a MAC hopefully this one will.
But i'm not holding my breathe.

Very nice looking, but I would be forever accidentally clicking on a button I didn't mean to as I adjust my hand position due to fatigue since this thing looks so FREAKIN' HUGE!
I was around when the PC was still regarded as "new" and the graphics were blocks of white on a black screen, programs were saved on cassette tapes or huge floppies (anyone remember the 8" disks?). It was awhile longer before we were introduced to "the mouse" - it was small, had one button and used a ball instead of a laser. Then two buttons...then...THE SCROLL WHEEL! COOL!
But then it just started to get out of control as far as I'm concerned, but that's just the generation I'm in. We like our keyboards and we don't like our mice to be too complicated. Mine has only a few buttons and I'm happy with that. It works for me :-)
Damn, I feel ancient now! Someone fetch me my shawl and face my rocker toward the window?
Ixtlilton Oct 11th 2008 12:51PM
I'll have my awesome served up with a side of awesome!
Shin Oct 11th 2008 1:01PM
This mouse sounded pretty cool. I play WoW on a laptop making it sometimes hard to react on time and putting everything on the mouse would solve that issue.
Unfortunaly as soon as a European wants to buy this mouse, it changes to 100 euro's opposed to 100 dollards. To me that's a price difference of 26 euro's.
Unless I can buy this thing in dollars, no pretty mouse for me.
PeeWee Oct 11th 2008 1:04PM
In the link provided, the price is listed as 99.99€, which is ~140$
