WoW Moviewatch: What Happens in Booty Bay Stays in Booty Bay
(Warning: This video contains some harsh language.)
Just in time for the weekend, like a quick junket to Vegas,we offer a movie called What Happens in Booty Bay Stays in Booty Bay. The filmmaker, Brigitte Swiftblade, calls this an "RP documentary." I love this format; it's very original. Since she's playing on an RP server, she decides to follow around her pal, Zaitzegrait, and film the consequences while he tries to meet chicks in Booty Bay. Apparently Zait is quite a famous character in Trade chat (US Twisting Nether-A), so it's like she picked a celebrity for a reality show. And, in a way, a "reality show" is really what this movie is since Zait is the only one who knows why the little Dwarf Rogue is following him around so closely. (Her POV is the camera's eye.) Everyone else plays their part to perfection, albeit unbeknownst to them. The subtitles offer insight into the documentary setup and a running non-RP commentary on the action -- or Zait's lack thereof. The result is a very humorous, original movie that contains themes of love, betrayal, honor, and cross-faction hanky-panky. I would love to see more of this kind of documentary movie-making from role-players!

LOL thw wonders of RP. you gotta love it.
Mardoc Oct 10th 2008 12:18PM
I like the idea... and using actual RP rather than a script is funny, but I wonder if someone who were to follow a similar documentary format, but script and voice it, could come up with something really special.
Still, a decent video.

"apparently Zait is quite a famous character"
I have to ask. Famous to who? This reminds me a restaurant claiming that their pie is world famous and nobody at the table every hearing of it.
PalominoMule Oct 10th 2008 12:48PM
Well, that's why the server was mentioned. There's no claim that he's world-famous - just that he's famous on the server in question. So a sort of "local celebrity".
Naix Oct 10th 2008 1:37PM
Ahh much like a local radio DJ saying they are famous.

That. Was. Pure. Epicness. Loved the music choices that went perfectly with the action! AWESOME video!

Epic! I laughed, I cried, it was much better than CATS...

I felt like a weird voyeur looking in on someone's window of play-make-believe. Furthermore, seems like there is something fundamentally wrong with doing...whatever it is RP'ers do (HJ, BJ, etc) next to the dead body of some dude. A dude you just killed...and his eyes are still open like he's watching you. [and I guess he technically is]
Though I did laugh pretty hard when the orc got his face-melted.

Absolutely brilliant. Probably the best WoW movie I've ever seen.
The concept is perfect, the commentary amazing, the reactions stunning. However, my favorite part has to be the music. It's not often that a fan made movie actually has a soundtrack that perfectly blends into the film itself, but, this has achieved it without the slightest flaw.
10/5 stars.

I had a ball watching this. The documentary aspect made it all that more amusing, but the captions made moments that are awkward in-game amusing.
There just *is* something about Booty Bay. Roaming around Booty Bay on my draenei hunter on The Scryers (an RP server) back when she was in her 40s or 50s, a tauren got my attention and rudimentary RP followed. He was flirting and chatting my character up, and in fact bought her a drink (through some gesturing and use of the neutral AH, I found this most clever at the time). Sitting down at a table in the inn things were going so, so well. I was having an awful lot of fun with the cross-faction RP in spite of the language barrier.
...then he started to disrobe.
I logged.
I can only hope he got to laugh as hard as I did afterward.

Holy Crap, I know these people!

This is brilliant.

This is a very refreshing vid after all the high production, scripted, voice acted stuff that is common for wow vids. I really did make the video to say it was all unscripted minus the NE himself (whether or not it was true.) Very simple, and reveals that if you could get enough people together on a project, you could have a very good vid without model viewers or the like

P.S. What is the name of that song that started playing when the Orc female showed up?
Brigitte Oct 10th 2008 5:02PM
When she's getting off the boat, it's Shaggy - Mr. Boombastic
Evelyn Oct 10th 2008 1:03PM
Anyone know the artist/name of the first song?
The Avatar of Blue Oct 10th 2008 3:25PM
I wish more machanima artists would start crediting the music in their credits. It sounds a lot like Richard Gibbs or Bear McCreary and the work they've done for the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series though.

Someone just told me about this posting on WoW Insider. My apologies for not crediting the music, but here you go:
1. Lord of the Rings OST - The Council of Elrond
2. Austin Powers Theme
3. Shaggy - Mr. Boombastic
4. Biz Markie - Just a Friend
4. Rufus Wainright - Hallelujah
