Extended maintenance for Patch Day

The patch is a hefty one, clocking in at slightly over 1Gb, so if you haven't downloaded it yet, be sure to run Blizzard's background downloader and get all the necessary files before the big day. That way, you can hit the ground running as soon as realms come back online. Realms are scheduled to go down at 2 AM Pacific Daylight Time and should go up around 2 PM PDT. Don't worry too much about the exceptionally long 12 hour downtime. We'll keep you company.

Since realms in Europe go down on Wednesday, keep us posted if the patch get released, it gives us an evening of quickly gathering some stuff (herbs, over-pricing-victims, ...) >:-)
Too bad deathknights will not be part of this one :-(

The downloader wouldn't work for me (it said there was no data for the new patch) so I got the 992 mb patch from a mirror. Now I should be getting another 600 mb file but still nothing's happening. I have a feeling I'll be downloading while people are playing, gaaaaah. If you have any suggestion of how to poke the downloader back to life, please share.

Run launcher.exe, go to options, turn on background downloader, launch game. Then BG download will come up on your task bar, then the appropriate data will be downloaded, and you'll be able to run backgrounddownloader.exe at any time. :)

Thanks! I think my problem was actually the launcher. I has set WoW not to launch it, but now that I started it myself it did an update and it's telling me it has patch data. Woot!

Wooh00! That worked for me too, as I was in the same state and couldn't get the thing to update. Thank you, z3rb!

The thing I'm dreading most is the state of my poor addons on patch day. With so many changes and WAU no longer working, I'm just dreading Tuesday now. Please keep us updated on the status of addons on Tuesday!

While some addons are being updated for the patch, some aren't mantained anymore so I'll need to find new ones.
In other cases, addon creators scrapped their old projects and started new ones that in some cases are just... meh
I'm talking to you, Maul! Gief TrinityBars2 for 3.0!
Phil Oct 13th 2008 10:38AM
@sephirah
I read yesterday that Maul is working on a new project that is very similar to Trinity Bars called Macaroon. That will probably allieviate some of the issues with the patch.

srsly, dude, time to move on past WAU...
WoWMatrix is pure WIN.
Check it out.

I did.. and it looks kinda shady...
Couldn't find any info on the makers, Acreon Inc. The site seems to be full of promises, but they could really be gold selling keyloggers for all I know.
They also seem to be taking donations, though it seems they actually host no addons on their site (i.e. they just leech from other sites).
And I wonder if they've contacted all those addon devs and asked for permission to include their addons to their product.. could be... but I kinda doubt it since I didn't see any dev names listed with the addons.. for example, http://www.wowmatrix.com/addons/grid.html .. It looks like WoWMatrix took the credit for that.. would have been kinda nice to include author info and original site link for the addon.
I like the WoW mod community they do great innovative stuff and should really get credit for their work.
I won't be using WoWMatrix anytime soon, because I like addons and I don't like to piss on addon devs.

I've been using WoW Matrix for at least a year. My account hasn't been hijacked yet. I'm using Vista 64.
Could be - the guy who wrote this just wanted this for himself and decided to release it to the public and take donations for his/her efforts.

WoWMatrix is also Ad-Supported ... And BRK uses it, so I think it's safe.
(I'm an avid user, it saves me hours of time.)

The European patch is 1.5GB ...this is a big one indeed.
And I'm happy that they decided that Death Knights is expansion material - makes it easier to concentrate on getting all those achievements done.
sephirah Oct 13th 2008 10:00AM
While I surely didn't expect DK in this patch, I'd have preferred to level one to 70 in this month.
Narion Oct 13th 2008 9:59AM
I really want this patch will make lvling a pair of warriors to 70 so much easier, any news on when the EU servers are down? times as well as dates?
Netherscourge Oct 13th 2008 9:58AM
12 hours maintenance?
Yikes.
