PTR closed with a thank you from the blues
Bornakk and Maaven posted a thank you note to everyone in the Public Test Realm (PTR) forums this afternoon. The PTRs are now closed since patch 3.0.2 is coming out tomorrow. It was an interesting note in that it made sure to mention all of the feedback that they've gotten. The feedback for this patch (and Wrath of the Lich King in general) has been different from previous times. There has been a ton of constructive, well thought out posts on the official forums about all the changes. Often times they've attracted the attention of Lead Class Designer, Greg Street (aka Ghostcrawler), and the discussion that results from such series of posting are quite enlightening and entertaining.
So no more PTR, a nice little thank you from Blizzard, and a whole lotta patch to look forward to tomorrow.

possibly stupid question:
now that the ptr program is useless- can i uninstall it by clicking on the uninstall warcraft link in the folder, or will that uninstall my entire game, and not just the ptr stuff?

just delete the test folder. it makes no registry entries on install and everything is all in that one folder (i usually install ptr on my desktop for easy trashing later). so theres really no un-install needed. just grab any screenshots you may want to keep first :)

Blue post confirms that: "Don't run an uninstaller. Just delete your WoW PTR folder."

I was walking by a dry cleaner at 3 a.m., and it said "Sorry, we're closed." You don't have to be sorry. It's 3 a.m., and you're a dry cleaner. It would be ridiculous for me to expect you to be open. I'm not gonna walk by at ten and say, "Hey, I walked by at three, you guys were closed. Someone owes me an apology. This jacket would be halfway done!"

If you've ever been afraid to tank because it seemed too challenging, feel free to try it now. It should be easy enough for anyone to do now. Yay for smoother 5 man PuGs.

Depends on what your issues with tanking are. For me the biggest problem is... dps. People refuse to follow the kill order. As a paladin I am anchored to consecrate for agro, and for that matter I've seen (and more than I would ever like to) hunters yank mobs away that I LOS pulled before they even touched my consecrate. People fearing mobs all over the place, melee dps from the front, positioning themselves all wrong, not listening to directions.
Somehow I doubt the patch is going to fix that.
Although I guess Blizzard could have a quiz before you log in. "The tank just said to attack the enemy with the skull over their head first. There are two enemies, and one has a skull over its head. Which one do you attack first?". Seriously, it's not that hard -_-;

I realize that right now the general level of inactivity makes it difficult to toss people out for bad play. I sincerely hope, however, that when WotLK hits and activity skyrockets that the hesitation to give terrible, unrepentant players the boot will vanish.

I don't have problems with tanking. I have problems with other tanks who can't seem to figure it out. With the latest changes, generating threat is brain dead easy. Even in AoE situations regardless of the tanking class.
Thanks to the ease of tanking in general now, I can actually take a chance on a non-paladin tank in a PuG 5-man and have some reasonable expectation that it isn't going to be extremely painful. In the past only good players could hold AoE threat as a warrior or a druid. Those days are over, and I couldn't be happier.
Great tanks will still shine, but bad tanks should at least be able to do the job. This equals more fun for everyone in my opinion.

I have to say, this PTR cycle was quite a bit more civilized than previous ones. But then again, they seemed to have more people keeping an eye on things too, especially in the PTR forum itself. Hope that holds true from here on out.
