WoW Moviewatch: WoW That's Irregular
Ever wonder what happens to your character when the boat or zeppelin goes out of your view as it zips across the ocean? Well, WoW That's Irregular is here to 'splain you, Lucy. The filmmaker, Wizeer, is a pal of Baron Soosdon's and a student of Machinima 101 and his third machinima makes it clear he'll be a force to be reckoned with.
The movie is really two separate vignettes which both riff on the theme of unexpected outcomes. The first story shows an Undead Rogue capturing the flag in Warsong Gulch with comedic flair. There is little standing in his way except a rookie Gnome, a surprised Draenei, and a Dwarf Hunter who looks surprisingly like BRK. One of these three offers the rogue his comeuppance, which is amusing, but what actually happens is a bit difficult to follow. According to the film's notes, the rogue overused Sprint, but I'm not entirely sure what occurred.
In the second half of the film, a Night Elf boards a boat and gets mobbed by a gang of Horde who apparently don't judge gender very well. The special effects on the boat ride showing us what happens when the boat hits the worm hole are splendid. The voice acting in this segment is also quite amusing. (Did you know that Orcs scream like little girls?) Give it a shot; I think you'll like this one.
For those of you interested in the non-WoW music used in this film, Wizeer lists "Concerning Hobbits" (Lord of the Rings), "Lacrimosa" (Immediate Music), and "Ringtone" (Battlefield Heroes).

Interesting... Very Interesting....

I love WoWinsider but it would be really great if you guys didn't use file front. File Front tends not to work outside N. America very well as opposed to YouTube (other services). Most of the time we get denied. I would love to watch this!

Hey, Narakku, on every Moviewatch post there is a link at the bottom called "Source". You can click there to find all the different ways to view this movie. (The name of the movie within the post is usually linked to this page also.) We try to embed the highest quality version of the movie and 9 times out of 10 it's not the YouTube version. However, if you click the Source link there will usually be a YouTube stream you can choose.

It says video not available. :/

It plays fine for me. Aleph, follow the steps I indicated to Narakku and see if you can watch a different stream of the film.

Just a little question.
Why is my name linked to a movie called 'Devour'?
I have nothing to do with it, expect for giving the author of it some advice (and inspiration iirc)?
Natalie Mootz Oct 13th 2008 12:55PM
No idea. Brainfart? Fixed.
Justin Oct 13th 2008 12:33PM
Ha! I'll never look at the boat trip screen the same way again!

The boat one was indeed hilarious

I'm pretty sure what he was going for in the rogue bit was that he overused Sprint so much that his boney legs snapped off. A small social commentary by the machinimator about the state of the rogue class, I think.

I can't watch this at work, but will definitely take a look when I get home...but did anyone else reading just Natalie's description get immediately reminded of this?

Loved it!!!
The rogue/capture-the-flag scene was funny, but not nearly as funny as the boat scene which I thought was absolutely hysterical!
Technical stuff (and no, I'm not a machinima expert, this is just what I personally observed from the standpoint of an amateur filmmaker): there was either a scene trimming error or an inadvertent lapse of foley during the rogue scene where he disappeared and the landscape was still there, but no "whoosh" sound. As it happened for only a split second, it looked more like a landscape layer wasn't trimmed at the same point as the chroma-keyed rogue. Also the blackout areas with the gnomes seemed almost like the film was choppy during the final render instead of the character blacking out/blinking (except for the one with the blurring of the gnome who had just pwned him).
That's the only gripe I can find on a technical level! I thought that overall the scene blending went smoothly, the music matched the scenes and the sound was mixed well (a LITTLE overpowering during the "let's kill it" segment, but not by much) - excellent shift-of-focus blur to create some depth.
Not only that, but a great concept! Kudos!

Boat scene priceless.

oh god, I nearly suffocated myself from laughing so hard when the boat went warp speed, lol
kabshiel Oct 13th 2008 11:48PM
The boat warp was really funny. The rest...not so much.
