A brief introduction to glyphs
Inscription is here (if your server is up, that is). And Inscription's primary goal in life is to make glyphs. For you. I say this because many people seem to have questions about what glyphs are, how they work, and where to get them. In this post I hope to answer those questions.
- Glyphs are made by players who have learned the new profession of Inscription (AKA scribes).
- The primary reagent for Inscription is herbs, which are milled to make pigments, which are turned into inks, which are then combined with parchments (which are bought from vendors) to make glyphs. Whew.
- Scribes can sell/trade/give glyphs to players, who then use them to enhance their spells. Each Glyph enhances a particular spell for a particular class.
- There are two kinds of glyphs: minor and major. Minor glyphs tend to do things like reducing cooldowns or removing a reagent cost, while major glyphs bring more substantial changes to spells.
- At level 80, we will each have three major glyph slots and three minor ones. At level 70, we have two major and three minor. Here's the breakdown for how many slots you have at what levels:
- Level 15: 1 major, 1 minor
- Level 30: 2 major, 1 minor
- Level 50: 2 major, 2 minor
- Level 70: 2 major, 3 minor
- Level 80: 3 major, 3 minor
- The glyph interface is found on the spellbook panel, in its own tab. To apply a glyph, just right-click it and click on the slot you want to put it in. If all your slots are full, you can overwrite an existing glyph; this will destroy it, just like with gemming.
- Some glyphs require you to be standing near a Lexicon of Power to apply them. Lexica are found near inscription trainers - just ask a guard in any major city.

I taught scribes had an extra glyph slot, or was this just false rumor?
delerith Oct 14th 2008 11:10PM
It was at first but got removed. At least from what i know.
Heilig Oct 14th 2008 11:24PM
It was replaced with Scribe-only shoulder enchants that have since also been removed, I believe.
Lemons Oct 14th 2008 11:49PM
So...scribes get nothing? wow.
CvijaFaQ Oct 15th 2008 4:07AM
They get BoP epic offhands at level 77, but they are kinda caster only.
Flatz Oct 15th 2008 12:34PM
That sucks, I was going to be a scribe for it, now I dont know what to be.

The 3.0.2 server posts are still on the front page! Oh no, post more nonsense that no one wants to hear about right now.
mora Oct 14th 2008 11:24PM
Yeah I can't even get into the game. Glyphs are the least of my worries right now.
shinken Oct 14th 2008 11:16PM
Inscription can really open up character customization .
Hopefully Blizzard pulls their nose away class balance and arena for sec to make new feral models.
kabshiel Oct 15th 2008 12:19AM
They're not using glyphs to change feral forms anymore. Now they're gonna add something to the barber shop at some point.

You guys need to stop writing posts about stuff that we're too lagged out to see and adress the real issues. I'll even write your FAQ post for you! This should be on page1 for a day at least....
Q: My mounts are gone! I know about the pet tab, but they aren't there!
A: It's a display bug. Blizzard is fixing it. Calm down.
-
Q: The portals in Shattrath aren't working! Neither are the zepps! Neither are the...
A: Yeah, we call that lag. Sorry.
-
Q: How can I avoid lag?
A: Stay out of main cities. Use Silvermoon/Exodar to train your class skills. Get there via Isle of Quel'Danas, or even the Dark Portal!
-
Q: How else should I avoid lag?
A: Don't loot mobs you kill. Don't go to the bank. Don't use the mailbox.
-
Q: But... I need all of those things.
A: Try logging in at 4am then, because this isn't going to clear up anytime soon.

True.... true.

Um. No. That post is a FAQ about 3.0.2 features/cahnges. The FAQ that needs to be up is one that talks about server lag...
sosei Oct 15th 2008 12:29AM
So you want the whole world - or rather, the readership of the site - to wait for everything to be A-OKAY for you? Nah, you're not that important. :D Lagged out or not (which I haven't been, although I've been having addon issues) it's still good information.
Aaron Oct 15th 2008 12:32AM
Nothing to do with me. I already know what I need to know it's just a suggestion. As for your experience- let me guess- you're on a low population realm created post-BC, right? If you were on any other server you might feel differently.
The fact is that blizzard's forums are down every few minutes, its impossible to post there, and on my server the general chat is FLOODED with people asking the same questions about the lag over and over again. I think a post like the one I described would help them a lot more than one about inscription.
But feel free to take pot shots at me, that's constructive!

yeah, totally bringing up one-day topical things that won't matter tomorrow REALLY should trump totally relevant things that someone reading on Saturday will still find interesting and informative.
Good call!
Patch days suck. This is not new, news or even surprising in the slightest. If you came home today expecting everything to be awesome, you really haven't been around the game through even a single patch day, because this is how all of them have been pretty much forever. Everyone's used to it by now. The servers go up, the servers go down, someone finds a bug that gives them 9 bazillion attack power and they solo Onyxia, the servers get patched, and sometime on Thursday everyone's happy again. Yawn. Sorry you can't log in right now, you're not really telling us something we didn't already know and we really couldn't care less since you expected way too much on patch day if you expected stability and awesomeness. Check back on Thursday if it really bugs you so much. Whine enough on the forums about it, and Blizzard will give you fifty cents compensation too!

Actually, my realm (Eredar) was around before BC, as far as I know. Pretty high-pop PvP server, too. The server I'm on has nothing to do with 1) not being an impatient person; 2) not crying over informative posts instead of gripe-fests, and 3) not assuming that your "FAQ" would actually help people (when in reality, there was little content that would be considered informative)
People have been complaining all day. You weren't the first, and won't be the last. Calling you out on your impatient actions aren't potshots, just stating the not-so-obvious. Now, if you came at the subject with more tact and less QQ, people wouldn't take you for a complainer.
*shrug*
To stay on topic: I wish we could use three professions right about now. :(

"Now, if you came at the subject with more tact and less QQ, people wouldn't take you for a complainer."
Yea, the info wasn't all bad (I learned that looting, mailbox etc contributes to lag -- kind of a 'duuh' moment but anyways), just wrong place, wrong language, wrong attitude.
@Aaron, if you could grow up, then people would take your ideas more seriously.
Aaron Oct 15th 2008 9:31AM
Well, it's tomorrow and it still matters.
