BlizzCon 2008: The awesome of the ending ceremony

On Saturday night the walls of the Anaheim Convention Center rocked with the cheers and laughter of thousands of BlizzCon 2008 attendees. This year's two-day event was packed full of excellent panels, cool gameplay and of course, lines that seemed to stretch from here to eternity. (I personally clocked in 3 1/2 hours in the store line - but I got awesome goodies out of it.) However, it was this final event that put the crown jewel in this year's BlizzCon event. Curious as to what all went on? Click through the gallery to check out the sights (and some sounds) from the front lines!

lol. Well I agree with you.
Frank Smith Oct 14th 2008 5:50PM
sorry if you like them but i thought L70ETC was unbearably lame.
... and i like metal.
... and WoW.
they had the lyrics up on the screens either because the audience couldn't understand them otherwise or maybe so the singer wouldn't forget. my friend made a 'karaoke' comment.
maybe it's for kids, idk.
SpaceDog Oct 14th 2008 5:58PM
I know what you mean. I always find the lead singer (is it Samwise? I get confused) pretty embarrassing, fake gruff voice and everything.
But yeah, I saw the VGL stream when they were in France, and they were pretty cool. :)
Jerome E. Oct 14th 2008 6:00PM
I do not know what to make of L80ETC. They're nice guys and they help make some great games.
But are they tongue-in-cheek, or do they think their music is actually good? I mean, I don't know how else to say this but ... they're awful. Is it just me? Is it the new thing in metal to wear a button-down t-shirt and jean shorts for performances?
I'm sorry to be a hater, it's just ... L80ETC makes me wince.
Phil Oct 14th 2008 6:08PM
@Jerome
This actually isnt a new thing but a old thing from the early 90's called the "Grunge" movement, us old folks remember it well or atleast I do anyway.
BigBiker05 Oct 14th 2008 5:53PM
Frank, do I know you? My friend also said it sounded like Karaoke. I always though lvl70ETC was pretty lame. I imagine the only reason they are in there is because one of the *cough* members just happens to be pretty high in the Blizzard chain.
Anyways, I think VGL was just fucking amazing. And the tavern video to go with the last songs. VGL made the entire week for me great! I can't wait til VGL tours Southern Cali again next July. A must see.
Frank Smith Oct 14th 2008 6:21PM
hrm i don't think so.
and /agree heavily that VGL was awesome!
vlad Oct 14th 2008 5:57PM
because a button down shirt tucked into jean shorts with a belt is FUCKING METAL!!!!!!!
(insert scream and guitar feedback here)

Lulz.
Dethklok would eat those guys alive. The lead singer of the ETC reminds me a bit of Murderface.
Austin Oct 14th 2008 6:16PM
How does he remind you of Murderface? Do you even watch the show?
Ktok Oct 14th 2008 6:24PM
@Bip Bippadotta
You do realize that Dethklok is one guy when not on tour, right? And that it's far more of a joke than L80ETC?
...surely you realize that. I mean, no slam on Dethklok, but they are essentially to Metal what The Monkeys were to Beatle-ish Pop.
Austin Oct 14th 2008 6:26PM
Not that one man bands are that bad, right Ktok? I mean, look at Bathory! Quorthon was a great musician :P
Offhand Oct 14th 2008 5:58PM
The shirt the singer has does not belong at a metal concert... ever.
BigBiker05 Oct 14th 2008 5:59PM
Actually, according to wowinsider, they all work somewhere within the Blizzard company.
Jerome E. Oct 14th 2008 6:02PM
Yeah, they're all Blizz employees. I'm pretty sure the lead singer is a rather important/talented artist @ Blizz, don't remember about the other guys.
Krystalle Voecks Oct 14th 2008 6:13PM
They do indeed all work for Blizzard. I listed their chops in the gallery text. (Hopefully our galleries aren't flaking out again and you can see that.)
Bip Bippadotta Oct 14th 2008 6:14PM
When I look at the drumkit, anyone else thinks it's a bit too new wave to be metal? They should have dressed up as The Cars. Skinny ties ftw.
Ktok Oct 14th 2008 6:21PM
Wow, so much hate ;)
Either you didn't get tickets, or you were there and play Alliance... since they kept poking fun at you.
Personally, I really enjoyed the show. They're a garage band of friends and coworkers who write metal songs about video games. What are you expecting?
The best part had to have been Samwise calling the Alliance players' cheer "not bad (for) little gnomes" and then telling the Horde to cheer. The shout of "For the Horde!" shook the building. As a Horde player, I was very proud. I wanted to log in and find a Night Elf to cut in half. :)
Horde pride ran thick through the entire convention actually. I've always felt that Hordies are more proud of their choice, and more likely to fly the colors. What I saw all weekend long just reinforced that observation.
Tryst Oct 14th 2008 6:57PM
Why so much hate? Hmmm, why don't you take a second to imagine what it would be like on the other side? Paying $1000 to go to a convention where the head of the company and his untalented trained monkey like crapping on half their player population? And specifically on one race? I would like to know *exactly* what they get out it. I pay my money every month just like everyone else and yet every time Samwise and Mike Morhaime get the opportunity they choose to get a dig in on the Alliance. If they hate the Alliance so much, why don't they just delete the entire Alliance? It's really that simple. It's their game after all. This is the third time I've seen those guys and they are insulting and rude every single time. As I said before, if Samwise hadn't been with his kids in the Hilton lobby I would have told him exactly what I think of his inappropriate behavior. I wish they would leave the entertainment to the professionals and stop being the worst part of their own convention.
