Breaking News: Patch 3.0.2 will not contain all major class changes [Updated]
Many people, including yours truly, was scratching their head in disblief this morning when the official patch notes for 3.0.2 looked rather off. There were spells and abilities missing, talents not enumerated, and generally the notes looked as if they were lifted from a version of the game done a few weeks ago.Apparently this was intentional.
Ghostcrawler made a post moments ago stating that patch 3.0.2 does not have all the class changes in it. In particular, "those that affect high level abilities" and some more recent changes are not included. He goes on to say that people will get them before November 13th.
Bornakk has confirmed Ghostcrawler's post applies to the retail non-beta / non-ptr version of WoW.
Ghostcrawler makes a additional point of talking about this change being due to the fact that the game and patch was balanced at 80, and not so much at 70. He mentions that there will be a need to potentially hotfix issues right away.
Finally, Ghostcrawler make note that the game will "start feeling a little more normal again when Lich King ships." He asks us to be "a little patient and understanding" as this process finishes.
These statements apply to patch 3.0.2 which went live today.

"These statements apply to patch 3.0.2 which went live today."

Uhh... status screen says servers won't go up until 2pm PDT. It's only 10:52Am PDT right now. :P

Man there are gonna be some dumb-asses posting about this...

So basically blizzard borked the whole game and turned 11 million customers into beta testers for a month.
What was the point of the PTR?

So, for now whats in the current patch notes are basically what we're getting today, and nothing more? Am I reading that right?
Adam Holisky Oct 14th 2008 1:00PM
I would say yes.
Blackhorn Oct 14th 2008 1:26PM
No. Those patch notes are ridiculously incomplete. Those are the latest patch notes, which unfortunately, are based on other patches. We're missing the entire branching tree of patch notes and have only been given the newest little leaves.
I posted this earlier, but here's an example: The patch notes don't mention the new Warror talent "Armored to the Teeth" as being a brand new talent, but they do mention it being CHANGED. See what I mean? A lot of stuff that went into previous patch notes and hasn't been changed since has been left out of these patch notes. Like Thunder Clap being uncapped.

"Thunder Clap damage increased, cooldown increased, will now affect all targets within a range.."
This is in the patch notes and is uncapped. I don't see anything about Cleave being uncapped in the notes though.

"Some changes, particularly those that affect high level abilities and some of the changes we made more recently won't be in today's build."
He is talking about the most recent changes to the new abilities, not that the abilities didn't make it. =/

Not too surprising really. I think we'll see a bumpy road with things until LK comes out. Even then there'll be the usual "required" adjustments because things happen that didn't on the PTR.

hopefully we can at least play tonight, that is all i want. Exotic pets, are they still able to be caught tonight?
vhdblood Oct 14th 2008 1:13PM
Doesn't look like it. It isn't in the patch notes.
Blackhorn Oct 14th 2008 1:29PM
The patch notes clearly state you will have access to 51 point talents. So does Ghostcrawlers post.
Nanda Oct 14th 2008 1:01PM
Oh noes!
Amaxe Oct 14th 2008 1:01PM
In other words, they shipped a broken patch...
Blackhorn Oct 14th 2008 1:27PM
In other words, "the live patch isn't 100% current with the beta build" -- no big deal.
Thorzon Oct 14th 2008 1:03PM
Um....isn't GC a She and not a He?
Reinard Oct 14th 2008 1:04PM
Where've you been the past week?
