Essential addons for Patch 3.0.2 [Updated x6]
Let's take a look at what addons are working for patch 3.0.2. First a simple rule taken from the UI forums post done by Kaydeethree: "Any 'Wrath beta' compatible mod will work in 3.0.2." With that said, there is a long and comprehensive listing of 3.0.2 compatible addons over on WoWWiki. But the fun doesn't end there. The next step is obtaining all those new addons. I've compiled a large set of the essential addons and linked to at least one direct download source after the break. Each download source is either trusted beyond doubt – or tested and confirmed to be virus free.
Finally, you'll want to combine the addons into a nice looking UI. Check out our special edition of Reader UI of the Week for a look at five complete 3.0.2 compatible UIs.
We're posting this list now, and will continue to update it throughout the day. Begin your addon downloads as quickly as possible to avoid hangups later in the day when download servers become overloaded.

- These addons should still be considered beta. While the transition from 2.4.3 -> 3.0.2 will be much smoother than the Burning Crusade transition that occurred two years ago, there will still be problems here and there. Be ready to trouble shoot and go without your favorite addon for a bit.
- Your addons are stored in your World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons folder. Be sure to remove all your old addons before you start updating.
- Some old 2.4.3 addons may still work. However your milage may vary.
- After you have updated your addons, select "Load out of date addons" in the addon selection window, which is accessible while you're at the character selection screen. This may help solve a few things.
- WoWInterface has two great resources up: a very large addon list of their own, and a Patch 3.0 Survival Guide.

Healbot does have a new version.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/heal-bot-continued.aspx
So you don't have to go back to healing without it.

there's a .10 release at the Healbot site: http://healbot.alturl.com/

Thanks for the post! really helpful! i am looking to start fresh with my mods, is there anyway to cleanup the interface folder without deleting the original wow stuff??
** I have wow matrix is that a good way to delete them all?
thanks in advance

Dominos is definitely not ready right now. Flags as out of date and if force loaded savages frame rate and doesn't work. (Tried it on XP Pro SP3, XP home SP3, and OS X 10.5.5 earlier today and just now from the post's link.)
Good idea for an article. Was thinking earlier as I wrassled add-ons that it'd be a good topic. Btw, might I suggest running at least basic checks on resource usage on future featured add-ons? Some are very dynamic so it's not practical to do detailed numbers but a load time glimpse is better than nothing.

That's a very good idea. The only downside to that is the time it would take to test and report the findings of each addon. If I can find a way to automate the process somewhat I'll definitely include it. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share. =)

Wouldn't take any effort to check the RAM usage at boot time of a mod chosen for a feature. CPU usage would be a lot more work, as would figuring out the RAM hit as modules load, etc., but even the one piece of info is better than nothing. Er...which is what I already said so instead: Keep up the good work!

This version of Dominos has been working for me on the PTR consistently but it will not work on pre-3.0 WoW. So when the servers come back up you should be in business.

I've always gone vanilla. Tried installing several addons but I could never get into them due to level of confortability with vanilla. (I've always been, similarly, a clicker- never could make the mental leap necessary to use shortcuts. I can type all day but the moment I've got to hit the key for something other than the letter it's supposed to represent, I instinctively look down) As such, I'd like to take this opportunity to try, once more, to get into addons. What's a good resource for someone like me? (Preferably with lots of pictures- went to WoW-Interface to search for addons and not only could I not discern what most of them were supposed to do via the descriptions, I also couldn't find near enough pictures to compare and contrast with the default interface.) Thanks in advance

I'd wait a month or two for the mods to settle down. They're always in flux around a major patch like this.
Don't have a site to recommend that matches your needs but you could check the feature this site runs, the Reader UI of the Week. Lots of screenshots though they're normally of people running a LOT of mods.
You might want to start with something very simple. RatingBuster is linked in this post and is hot-greased monkey-sex awesome. Pretty much configures itself. All you do is hold down shift while mousing over a piece of gear to see all the weird game mechanics coverted to understandable numbers compared to your current equipment in that slot. "Oh, this will be +1.5% crit, +20 health, -10 mana. Got it." Does all the math for you.
For a clicker, a bar mod is nearly required IMO. The writer of Bongos keeps changing his mind though. Bongos, Bongos2, Bongos3, now Dominos. Once Dominos is stable, give that a try. Will take a bit of messing around but once you figure it out can put all the buttons to click anywhere you want :)

If you get the chance, play Warhammer a little, take a look at its UI. Do it for like half a hour, mess with the settings. Now go back to WoW.
You will never get used to the WoW UI again, go get your add-ons!

I dunno if this helps, but my left hand always rests naturally on the AWD keys for my middle fingers, shift for the pinky and space for my thumb, so it's from that position i have all my keyboard shortcuts. naturally, keys 1-5 require minimal motion to hit and i've got my most used healing spells there (raiding holy priest). together with the addons grid and clique, i hold down shift, mouse over the unit frame and click any of my mouse buttons for different spells so i can cast them without selecting any units first. Q is wanding, E is resurrection but could easy do anything you want, G is mass dispell and so on. this way i move my hand minimally 95% of the time and can still remain really agily during encounters and also run while instacasting spells. with some training, you'd never have to look at your keyboard to hit the right keys.
Aigarius Oct 14th 2008 12:53PM
Bind F1-F5 to spells on bottom left action bar and you have 10 spells with instant access.

omgomgomg does Lightheaded work?!

I'm seriously considering ZThreatMeter instead of Omen3. I don't like the direction some Mods are going, Omen included. Omen2 seemed really really buggy.
While I'm at it, I'm also rethinking my addon strat and changing all my mods to WoWInterface. I don't like what WoWAce and Curse have done. I understand why, but I don't like how it was done.
I'm pretty much starting from scratch. Blizzard's built-in threat meter is a joke. I want numbers, not a glowly thingy around my nameplate, as a tank. ZThreatmeter seems like it's lightweight enough but does what's needed. http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info10856-ZThreatMeter.html

I'm assuming DrDamage won't work with the new talents and everything?
If so are there any alternatives for me to look for?
Moridin Oct 14th 2008 5:16AM
I may be daft, or it may just be because it's 5:12AM, but I see no way to download Omen3 from that link. All I get is a list of files that lead to changelogs when clicked.
/sorry if it's something I'm blindly missing, thanks for any help. Haha.
Adam Holisky Oct 14th 2008 5:16AM
It's 4:15 am where I'm at, might be my error. Checking =)
Padders Oct 14th 2008 5:20AM
Same here - was thinking I must be missing the obvious...
Sagara Oct 14th 2008 5:24AM
You aren't.
It 11 AM down here, and I couldn't find anything either.
Well, I'm only trying with 1 eye (damn database management... Work should be banned on patch days...), so MAYBE we are missing the obvious after all :)
grendel Oct 14th 2008 5:30AM
Yeah, I couldn't figure it out either. Maybe one needs to make an account to download files that are still in the "development" phase?
That said, if someone finds an alternate link that doesn't require registering anywhere, I'd appreciate it.
