Essential addons for Patch 3.0.2 [Updated x6]
Let's take a look at what addons are working for patch 3.0.2. First a simple rule taken from the UI forums post done by Kaydeethree: "Any 'Wrath beta' compatible mod will work in 3.0.2." With that said, there is a long and comprehensive listing of 3.0.2 compatible addons over on WoWWiki. But the fun doesn't end there. The next step is obtaining all those new addons. I've compiled a large set of the essential addons and linked to at least one direct download source after the break. Each download source is either trusted beyond doubt – or tested and confirmed to be virus free.
Finally, you'll want to combine the addons into a nice looking UI. Check out our special edition of Reader UI of the Week for a look at five complete 3.0.2 compatible UIs.
We're posting this list now, and will continue to update it throughout the day. Begin your addon downloads as quickly as possible to avoid hangups later in the day when download servers become overloaded.

- These addons should still be considered beta. While the transition from 2.4.3 -> 3.0.2 will be much smoother than the Burning Crusade transition that occurred two years ago, there will still be problems here and there. Be ready to trouble shoot and go without your favorite addon for a bit.
- Your addons are stored in your World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons folder. Be sure to remove all your old addons before you start updating.
- Some old 2.4.3 addons may still work. However your milage may vary.
- After you have updated your addons, select "Load out of date addons" in the addon selection window, which is accessible while you're at the character selection screen. This may help solve a few things.
- WoWInterface has two great resources up: a very large addon list of their own, and a Patch 3.0 Survival Guide.

Whew, glad it's not just me. Haha. Think I might tinker with ZThreatMeter for a while until the Omen gang gets a full release out.
Patrick Wilson Oct 14th 2008 5:39AM
That's what I'll be doing. I'm interested in giving ZThreatMeter a shot.

Guess it wasn't actually ready until 8 a.m.ish.
Tordenflesk Oct 14th 2008 8:21AM
Or.. you could just get Wowmatrix and have all addons updated within seconds.
Hone Melgren Oct 14th 2008 8:55AM
Wow addon authors hate wow matrix 'cause the companies mean to addon authors. Me personally will take a happy addon author over one click updating any day (encourages them to update more)
Tordenflesk Oct 14th 2008 12:53PM
Huh?
Hone Melgren Oct 14th 2008 5:50AM
Okay I've worked it out .
You need to login up the top with your Curse network login (the one you use on curse gaming)
When you do this you'll get 2 links if you click on any of those versions for wrath - Download or Install using Curse Client
Adam Holisky Oct 14th 2008 5:52AM
Ah, that gets it. I'm still going to wait for a direct download link later today. I know a good batch of people are not comfortable signing up for a service just to get one addon (however necessary it might be).
Thanks for the info though!

@Adam
Well they're going to have to if they want to be downloading wowace addons via the curse client.
The curse gaming link however should work with no rego tho'

Please update the list. Thanks.

Essential Enhance Shaman add on:
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info10730-ShockAndAweformerlyDisqoDice.html
Shock and Awe.
Made to replace DisqoDice (go figure) it gives you an indicator for Maelstrom Weapon, your WF cooldown, stormstrike cooldown, lava lash cooldown and lets you know the state of your shield (up down)
If you use this the need to look at your buff bar every other second is removed.

It seems Cartographer and it's profession-related addons are all bust: http://forums.wowace.com/showthread.php?t=14274
That forum posts lists a few alternatives that are still being updated. Basically, the best thing to do is switch to Mapster and then add whatever else you want: TomTom for navigation, GatherMate for nodes, Routes for gathering routes, HandyNotes for.. notes.
Cartographer 3 is the proper 'new' version, but IMHO it's a prime example of bloatware and already somewhat abandoned by ckknight. It's here in case you are interested: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/cartographer3.aspx
