Five easy achievements you can snag right now
With the pre-Wrath content patch, 3.0.2, going live this afternoon, anticipation for the new Achievement system is growing. While you will find that you have been granted some for things that you have already accomplished, there will be a seemingly endless list of 'to dos' dropped into your lap.
How far you choose to take your achievement hunt is up to you, of course. Personally, I am fixing to be quite the achievement junkie. Still, not all of them will take time, effort, fat wallets and endless patience to acquire. In fact, there are some achievements up for grabs that require such little effort that you might as well snatch them up.
Update: Someone in the comments asked about titles -- the easiest title to get is probably "[Name] Jenkins." You can nab that one just by killing 50 rookery whelps in 15 seconds, so grab some AoE, run to UBRS, and spawn kill whelps as fast as you possibly can.
Other than that, they're relatively hard. Earning Exalted with the Cenarion Circle and the Cenarion Expedition will grant you a title, so if you've got one of those, you could just work towards the other to pick up "Guardian of Cenarius."
Doing 3000 quests will get you "The Seeker," so if you're close there, you could turn in a bunch of low level quests and see if you can hit that number quickly. Other than that, the title achievements are pretty complicated (and/or require Northrend to be opened up, which it isn't yet, obviously). But hey, you could always spend that 1000g for "of the Shattered Sun," right?

- Can I keep him? Obtain a vanity pet. Seriously, all you need to do is hop over to your local vanity pet vendor, or the auction house, and pick one out. If you already have one, great. Click on the item to "learn" it, as the items are now considered spells (as are mounts).
- It's Happy Hour Somewhere. Drink 25 diferent types of beverages. This will require a bit of traveling, but it's definitely a fun one. Start with all of the main waters, from Refreshing Spring Water up to Purified Draenic Water. Then seek out the coffee vendor that walks the path in Lower City, and you should be up to ten. Bubbling Water and Enchanted Water, both easy drops, will bump you up to twelve. Check out the vendor outside of Shadow Labyrinth or in the Stormspire to collect another two water. The Bar Maiden in Shattrath has five alcohols, bringing you to a total of 19 drinks. If you're tired at this point of checking every bar and Innkeeper around, start visiting your faction reputation vendors. Usually after friendly, good eats and drinks are offered.
- Represent. Collect one out of the 47 tabards. If you aren't in any position to grab one of the Outland tabards, try running the Scarlet Monastery - Armory until the Tabard of the Scarlet Crusade drops from the mobs summoned once you've downed Herod. This makes a leisurely guild project, and gives you a chance to goof around on Vent; because you know, no one ever does that during serious raiding.
- Duel-icious. All you have to do is simply win one duel against another player. This one is so easy, you can rig it.
- 5 Daily Quests Complete. Finish five daily quests. This one is too easy, as long as you are level 70 and eligible for most of the dailies. Even if you hate the daily quests, there are some for everyone. From the gathering quests to the daily battleground, cooking and fishing quests, I'm sure you can drag yourself through five.

I wonder why years ago people played Pac Man or Tetris, games in which no items can be bought.
Fedya Oct 14th 2008 11:08AM
I see your point, but I'm not talking about those games, I remember playing Tetris for nights, but now many years latter I coudn't force my self to play it for more than 10 seconds.
Here we're talking about wow, game we all play and love for years.
And so far everything in this game was somewhat rewarding. You had to spend some time (and your time equal Blizz money) and you get some reward for your time.
JPN Oct 14th 2008 11:13AM
I hate to say it Fedya, but either you get it, or you don't. There ARE some rewards, but when things like this are very popular - check xbox 360, etc. I think some people are more "task oriented" and like lists and crossing things off lists...plus some people are non-raiders or non-hardcore and this gives us another dimension. If you don't get it, cool, to each his own.
Angry Joe Oct 14th 2008 11:15AM
Flying mount, ground mount, vanity pet. The points idk what they are for, but the devs stated that it will always be cosmetic rewards.
If you find it boring, nonsense, just skip it entirely, I, for one, love the achievements.
matt Oct 14th 2008 11:30AM
I agree with Fedya whats wrong with asking what do I get out of it. I mean if choose sell pets for insanely high prices because I know people will want an achievement and i just happen to clear out the AH last night =). That is one thing. If these are just time sink/ Epeen things that is another.
To answer you question Fedya you get nothing out of these right now blizzard has said you might be able to buy tabard and other cosmetic things with these points at some point in the future but no time line has been given most likely NEXT expansion.

>> Someone please explain why would I want to spend my time chasing achievements.
Heh - I feel the same way about PvP.
Achievements are just another way to keep score. We already have experience, level, gold, reputation, and items - add achievements to the mix.
I guess if you have to ask what achievements are for, you're unlikely to find any answer compelling. For the collector ("gotta get em all"), it's immediately obvious, and we've been grinding rep and exploring areas for the last month in preparation for the patch.

Seeing as raiding is going on the back-burner at the moment,
I'll be running through all the old instances for the boss kills. I wonder how far I can get on my lvl 70 priest
I'll also be reading all the books on that list...
I did like the LOTRO achivement system, so this is a great thing which blizz has done, anything which adds another dimension to the game can't be bad!
Fedya Oct 14th 2008 11:03AM
@sephirah: Well I enjoy developing my char, progress through new content etc.
I wasted one day farming AV for honor but it was easy because I knew that at the end of the day I will get a shiny new epic. That epic will help my guild progress faster.
But I really can't see the point of eg. Fishing in the enemy city for a 0.2% drop.
And Achievements in Warhammer are just an annoying message that pops from time to time, hope it won't be like that in wow.
sephirah Oct 14th 2008 11:24AM
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm assuming a large number of people play wow for fun, not for their guild.
grravie Oct 14th 2008 12:45PM
the whole point is to give you something to do. what do you get? you get titles and other superfelous things. no gear, no shinies, no epic or legendary stuff.
as someone who has played since day1, i get burnt out on raiding, and pvp, and its nice to know i can do something that has nothing to do with character/guild progression. i can just sit around and dick off for a bit.
MechChef Oct 14th 2008 11:21AM
This seems like a good time to do 40-man pre-bc achievement runs w/ my guild. Just bring EVERYBODY.
sead Oct 14th 2008 11:31AM
does anyone know what you can do with the acheivment points you earn after complete them?
do you buy stuff with them... do you turn them in for items?
i've had no luck finding info on this .
plz help
Mike Schramm Oct 14th 2008 11:36AM
They're for bragging rights only at the moment. Eventually they may be used for titles or cosmetic items, but for now they're just a tally of what you've done so far.
Yalina Oct 14th 2008 11:35AM
Achievements points will not be used for anything. They're just there so that you can see what you've done.

Becoming exalted with all of your faction's capital cities grants the title of 'Ambassador.' Even on the rep-torn Horde side, I did this is in 10-15 hours at level 70. As a blood elf, I was revered with everyone when I started, though just barely with the trolls and tauren. Questing each race's starting zone, the Barrens, Hillsbrad, and capital city quests did it. I had already done the elf starting area, and by the end, didn't even need to complete Silverpine or Trisfal.
If you're not an elf, you might lack in Silvermoon rep. Make sure you've visited each Horde city - it seems there is a lone Silvermoon elf in several cities to aid in this. Brackenwall Village, Kargath, Grom'gol, etc.
And if you're lacking towards the end for anyone, you can pick up an easy 1000-2000 rep by turning in 60 wool, 60 silk, 60 mageweave, and a few stacks of Runecloth. The wool and silk should come naturally through doing those quests. Buy the mageweave. Runecloth doesn't cost much anymore either, but if you like, you can farm it for yourself at the Expedition Armory (directly south of Honor Hold).

Honestly, Thottbot quests by rep awarded. It's how I got my NE her horse at level 40 (at the time).
Ugkul Oct 14th 2008 11:45AM
To Blizzard it's just another thing to keep folks from canceling.
Shanic Oct 14th 2008 12:08PM
There is actually an even easier way to get Represent - simply buy a Guild Tabard from the local Guild Creation building. :)
Lohrdook Oct 14th 2008 12:25PM
If you can' t figure out the rewards for achievements, maybe there is a more simple game out there.
Most seem mount and title oriented and since I've seen people running around with mounts that drop .02% of the time, and people who actually forked over 1k for the "Shattered Sun" title, this is giving the people what they want.
For instance, I plan on downing every single city boss so I can get the new bear mount.
My Alliance alt is almost exalted with all factions for the Ambassador title.
My Warlock will cast Seed of Corruption a bunch to be known as Jenkins.
I'm actually already exalted with Sporeggar, and Revered with the Mag'har...the Timbermaws not so much but the Diplomat title is well within reach.
Again, if mounts and titles aren't your thing, achievements may not be your thing. But considering there are pages of forums begging Blizz to add titles, and make some mounts more accessible (Brewfest QQ anyone?) the last thing I want to hear/see is someone questioning their decision to add this.
They built a computer game with a 10 million person subscriber base. Wow must be the only game where the people who play it think they know more than the people who designed it.

What about the low end quest markers? There was a mention awhile back that all low end quest markers ( ! signs) show up on the minimap and regular view for all players now. AKA, no longer hidden.
Is this still in or was in nerfed?
