Patch 3.0.2 mirrored at Big Download
Many readers are still reporting problems downloading patch 3.0.2, possibly the largest patch WoW has ever received (in terms of both file size and number of changes). The Blizzard Downloader is a clever adaptation of BitTorrent, and while it does a good job of lightening the load on Blizz's servers and distributing the patch files to those of us who are able to forward ports and open firewalls, not everyone is in that position. Some people really just want a straight HTTP download of the patch files.
Fortunately, our sister site Big Download is here to help. They're hosting all the patch files, for both Mac and Windows, BC players and classic. Part of the confusion here is that there were actually two patches yesterday, 3.0.1 and 3.0.2. They must be applied in that order, and then you'll be ready to play. All the instructions are over at Big Download; they'll have you up and running in short order.

Blizzard's use of bit torrent technology to distribute patches is a step in the right direction, but damn it they could do a lot better. If Fileplanet, Fileshack, etc etc can offer downloads of up to 1 MB/s then so can Blizzard. They have the capital to do it and if they don't have the resources, guess what...other people do and would be happy to help. What website would turn away a guaranteed influx of millions of pairs of eyes at their websites?

you would think the background downloader would have lightened the load a bit for this big arse patch

How about mirroring the EU patches? Many us don't live in North America.

I agree. A mirror for the EU-patches would be great. Is there anywhere we can get those?

Blizzard hasn't actually released the standalone EU patch yet but they said it should be soon. Big Download will host it as soon as it's up!

Downloading it right now... No Mac love for the 3.0.1 -> 3.0.2 patch though, it's an .exe file.
John Oct 15th 2008 3:17PM
Yeah, that is surprising but Blizzard said they're going to provide the Mac standalone patches soon and Big Download will host those soon!

Just wanna confirm that the 2.4.3 -> 3.0.1 works flawlessly for mac users.

Hi Ladies and Gents
Keep getting this error when patch is being installed.
The file "Sound\Creature\DeathKnight\DeathKnightAggro.wav" in archive "F:\wow\Data\common.MPQ" could not be opened, because an error 2 occurred. If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (MPQFile::OpenFromArchive)
Repaired it many times, even downloaded patch again (from blizzard) however install hangs at around 12%
any ideas?

For all you EU members looking for the patch, I have found both 2.4.3 - 3.0.1 and 3.0.1 - 3.0.2 on HTTP direct dowload.

Think they'll release a BC install (2.0.1?) to 3.0.2 full version of a patch?
