Breakfast Topic: What about the new talent specs is confusing you?
New spells! New talents! New...confusion. We posted a number of new talent guides (don't see yours? It's coming soon!) as well as the Skill Mastery series to give you the information you need to respec your toon(s) come pach day. But having logged on last night, I still had to walk many guildies through their talent choices. They weren't sure what specs work and which don't anymore. There is a certain amount of information overload going on for many players right now.Is there anything you are unsure of with your new builds? What talent information are you looking for that you haven't found yet? Is there a talent, skill or spell whose function is unclear? Leave your answer here and we'll try to clear it up for you

I have question... for not very well geared warrior (70, rather green/blue items, pre-patch hit-rating 107 (19 from 2x1H swords) does it make sense to go with TG and what build? Maybe it is better to make build like this?
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior=052230212303010500221220000000000000000000000000000000000305020005500300000000000000
The build on 80 will look like this:
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warrior=052230212303010500221220231130000000000000000000000000000305020005500300000000000000
The idea is to use Slam and if possible Overpowered and later Execute (of course also keeping the target bleeding). Mortal Strike for target which can heal themselfes. Of course Sword Specialization can be changed base on weapons used.
BTW. it is human.

What is the best DPS PvE rotation for a UA build that goes all the way down to haunt. I am currently trying to relearn just how to do this properly with adding a new nuke on a CD and not having to refresh Corruption as frequently. Also is Imm considered good or bad and what about CoA? God I didnt want to ever have to mess with the good old UA rotation...
Dawkins Oct 16th 2008 8:26AM
If you have 2 one-handed weapons, don't use Slam unless it is an instant cast. The loss of DPS from your normal swing will hurt. Also, don't use Mortal Strike if you have 2 one-handers, use Bloodthirst.
If you want to stay Mortal Strike, find a beastly two-handed weapon and spam Mortal Strike and Whirlwind whenever possible.
This is all basic pre 3.0 info though. Someone else might be able to give you the best theory build.

You'll want one 2-hander. I respecced full Arms with Armed to the Teeth & Cruelty. So far, it's a proc-fest, but I am loving it. I've always thought bleeds were cool, but rend has always been horrible. It's not horrible anymore with Trauma, and it can proc overpower. (yay!)
I'm a pvper though.

Well, about everything that's changed for hunters confuses me... I finally had a nice shot rotation but then they changed the effect of Aimed Shot, Steady Shot and Kill Command, so now something completely different happens. Steady Shot won't even work in my macro for some reason. Has anyone figured out some good shot rotation macros that are suitable for this new patch?

I think you missed the point of those changes entirely, then...

Ummmm Reiinard... not sure if you noticed the name of this particular Breakfast Topic, but the point is to point out where you've missed the point. Pointing out that someone missed the point at this point is just a silly point, so I hate to point it out, but you've obviously completely missed the point of this blog.
Instead of trolling, why not answer Elmo's question if you have brilliantly figured out all things Hunterish. Elmo would probably appreciate the help, and I wouldn't have to point out your asshat behavior.

You don't need a rotation, technically, but I still use mine to spam steady shot/arcane/kill command. It's now probably an issue of efficiently managing cool downs as opposed to babysitting auto shot. The only class that can handle it consistently are holy pally's who heal at 25%, and in PvE, it seems to work great, keeping in mind that nerfed heroics are my only frame of reference.
Kellerune Oct 16th 2008 1:11PM
I am by no means a hunter pro or anything. But you don't need a steady shot rotation anymroe, because steady shot no longer clips auto shot.(if that was your question). Oddly enough, different specs of hunters have different shot rotations(gasp!). MM hunts will use primarily stings to proc off chimera shot, Surv hunters will use Lock n Load most often, and BM hunters...well they just spam steady shot. Throw an arcane into the mix if ya want too. But the bottom line is that steady shot doesn't clip auto shot so that effectively increases our DPS.
Hope this helped!!(and please correct me if I am wrong!)

I have actually been having fun relearning the game so to speak. I never did play my paladin much in the beta, so for that I was on the same page as everyone else. It is interesting. I can't say I was confused about any of the talents. I have never been one to go ask everyone else what is best for me to do. I like figuring it out and experimenting.
What has surprised me most is the number of questions from guildies that closely resemble that of, for lack of a better term, newbies. Don't get me wrong, I like my guildies and am in no way attempting to denegrate them. Things like, where are my mounts, can we go to northrend stuff like that. They all get answered, I don't call anyone names or anything like that, it was just a surprise to me.

i agree , other than that... i find some people are lazy, or just so into getting back into some form of grind that, all it takes is too read and observe. Everything explains it self in plain sight
Im not throwing stones, since someone casually told me about "show spell rank", Once i unchecked it, i smiled and scratched my head thinking, "How conveneient!"

How does the glyph of holy light, work with beacon? So you beacon the tank, you holy light a rogue, the holy light affects the tank aswell, and so then does the 5 x 10% additional heals also go to the tank? (3x 10% minus the tank and the rogue i suppose). Also is beacon working off overheal, or is it only effective healing?
Khanmora Oct 16th 2008 8:20AM
It's only effective healing on beacon. As far as the glyph, I think the combat log shows the heal on the tank as a beacon heal rather than a HL heal (I can't be sure though, I didn't keep the beacon spec all that long in beta) so that only the rogue, in this case, would have gotten the glyph effect.
Enli Oct 16th 2008 9:25AM
If you beacon the tank and then Holy Light a rogue within 40 yds of the tank while you have the glyph, this is what seems to happen from some testing:
- The normal Holy Light heal lands on the rogue.
- The effective healing part of that heal lands on the tank because of the beacon. Overhealing is indeed ignored.
- 10% of the Holy Light heal lands on 5 surrounding party/raid members because of the glyph, which may or may not include the tank.
- That bonus 10% heal does not trigger more of the beacon effect if it lands on someone other than the tank.
Not easy to test, but that's what it looks like.

This is just proof of how this game went from being fun, trying out different specs, discovering things on your own, to a "one spec or else", min-max game where if you choose the wrong spec you are a social pariah.
C'mon people, mix and match, respecs dont cost that much, just go out there and experiment and have fun! Play any spec you want, if its not fun then respec

If only there were a forum community where a bunch of experts congregated and spent 100's of pages debating various aspects of class/spec theory to determine the highest possible output for .
If only the average player would spend the time necessary to glean from the work the hardcore theorycrafters are doing.
Life is nice in fantasy land...
Mitch Oct 16th 2008 9:41AM
Octale, I know you're being sarcastic, but I think you're missing the point.
You shouldn't have to min/max like those theorycrafters to have fun. Just change talents around to play the way you want to, not because you would be ostracized if you don't.
Nick S Oct 16th 2008 9:48AM
Now, if ever, is the time to play with specs. Everything is nerfed to hell and back; Kara gear would probably get you through BT.
I'm speccing Survival and using Exploding Shot, despite dubious DPS. EXPLOSIONS!!!
