Earn 5 fishing achievements today
The act of fishing, particularly if one does not find it relaxing, can seem frustrating and inspire impatience within the angler. It might surprise you then to learn that, with a little effort, you could earn five fishing achievements by the end of today, without worrying about rare drops.
Itinerary:
Before you head out for the day, head over to Orgrimmar if you are Horde, and Stormwind if you are Alliance. Fish up one fish, and make sure you loot it into your inventory.
You'll be taking a trip around Azeroth, so plan your route out ahead of time. "The Scavenger" asks you to successfully fish up one item from each of five wreckage schools around the world.
In order to complete this, you will need to reach at least a 305 fishing skill with gear, enchants, fishing rod bonuses, and lures, so hit the Auction House first if you need to. Don't worry, I have a plan for you if you can't manage the 305. From easiest to most difficult:
If you cannot fish each wreckage pool, note that you will be catching 50 fish today instead of 25. While you are doing this, you can actually complete your fourth achievement as well. All you need to do is hit the next fishing skill level that allows you to train the next rank of fishing.
For players who already have their highest fishing rank, you can complete "Outland Angler", and it is actually quite quick. You will, unfortunately, need to be able to fly to complete this achievement.
Horde can travel to Elwynn Forest and jump into the water surrounding Stormwind. Swim toward the city, and you will find a sheltered embankment from which you can fish.
Note that city guards are now level 75, you will likely have to die several times to reach your destination, and you might have to remain dead for a time until lingering members of the opposing faction get bored of waiting for you to resurrect.
Itinerary:
- "25 Fish": Catch 25 fish. If you have done this since patch 3.0.2 went live, then your next goal will be 50, and so on.
- "The Old Gnome and the Sea": Successfully fish from a school/pool. This will have to be a pool of fish, not wreckage or water motes.
- "The Scavenger": Fish one item up from each of the five wreckage schools to be discussed in this article. If this cannot be completed due to the inability to achieve a working 305 fishing skill, then you will be completing the achievement "50 Fish."
- "Outland Angler": You must fish up one fish from each pool to be discussed in this article. If this cannot be completed due to low skill, you will be completing an achievement such as "Journeyman Fisherman."
- "The Fishing Diplomat": Fish something up in both Orgrimmar and Stormwind.

- Waterlogged Wreckage Pool: Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Alterac Mountains, Arathi Highlands or Stranglethorn Vale.
- Schooner Wreckage: Stonetalon Mountains, Ashenvale, Wetlands or Hillsbrad.
- Bloodsail Wreckage: Search the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, staying south of Grom'gol.
- Floating Wreckage: Azshara, Tanaris or Feralas.
- Steam Pump Flotsam: This is found throughout Zangarmarsh, and will require a minimum 305 skill after gear and lures. Stay to the east.
If you cannot fish each wreckage pool, note that you will be catching 50 fish today instead of 25. While you are doing this, you can actually complete your fourth achievement as well. All you need to do is hit the next fishing skill level that allows you to train the next rank of fishing.

- "Expert Fisherman": Skill 125.
- "Artisan Fisherman": Skill 225.
- "Master Fisherman": Skill 275.
For players who already have their highest fishing rank, you can complete "Outland Angler", and it is actually quite quick. You will, unfortunately, need to be able to fly to complete this achievement.
- Terokkar: Look for Brackish Mixed Schools in the rivers, as well as Schools of Darter. Then hop on your flying mount and visit one of the lakes above the Allerian or Stonebreaker outposts, or in the middle of Skettis for the Highland Mixed School.
- Nagrand: The lakes and rivers hold Mudfish and Bluefish Schools.
- Zangarmarsh: Look for Sporefish schools.

I found as horde its easy too get the stormwind fish. Just go up the coast/sea north of westfall and you will enter the stormwind area before you even see the captial.
Then just fish in the sea and there you go, fished in stormwind :P

This is good info! I'll try it out next time I get the chance. Thanks! :)

Imho, that's borderline exploit... I'd not be surprised to see this fixed. But such is the way the zone is. If it works, grats. :)
Ogrimmar isn't that bad either. It might take a death, but can be done rather easily.
Get on your mount and tear all the way through the city to the Valley of Honor. (If you can stealth there, cool, but I'm understanding the guards are more observant than they were in the past.) Attempt to die in a place where you can safely rez under the waterfall. Fish, catch, hearth... got yer' req done.

Actually discovered a much easier way to fish in Stormwind. Go to northern Westfall, swim out north, hugging the coast. It takes awhile but you can reach that spiffy new harbor they just put in. There are a couple shores you can step out onto, totally unspawned with guards. Just throw in your line and you've got the achievement. No death involved.

Save those fish! You cook them up and get achievement for cooking. Then you eat them and get an achievement for that too!

Yeah, it's the Old Ironjaw that I'm trying to figure out the best way to accomplish.
So far, it involves invisibility potions, Savory Deviate Delight, and hoping that most players don't have their "view enemy nametags" up without also having their view ally ones up too c.c;

As a gnome, I saw a couple of tauren fishing in Ironforge.
I tried to stand back there to fish by them, but I wasn't tall enough to stand in the water back there in order to cast (I'm not joking, they could fish and I couldn't). There was also a human back there fishing alongside them.
They fished there in relative peace for about two hours, from what I saw. One left, and then some jerk came up and took out the other.
I hugged the dead tauren (and got Make Love, Not Warcraft in the process), and a few of us chewed out the rogue.
You'll get ganked, but probably not as much as you might expect, since there'll be those of us extending courtesy to fellow fishers.

Bnorman Oct 17th 2008 12:11PM
Right now I'm doing the Ironjaw achievement as Horde...Oi vay.

My wife and I (Alliance) completed "The Fishing Diplomat" and caught Old Crafty last night. I would recommend that Alliance players try and get to the Valley of Honor, rather than Spirits, to do their fishing as there is much less traffic from Horde players. The ride is a bit hair-raising as the guards have been upgraded to level 75, so lower levels might want to stick to the Valley of Spirits anyway. There is a handy waterfall in the Valley of Honor that you can get behind to reduce your visibility. Remember to bring a couple of camouflage potions to stay hidden from hunters or kitty druids who may be tracking humanoids.
Also, you can fish while /sleep-ing. Even though your name might still be sticking up above the water, it couldn't hurt. :P
I caught Old Crafty after about 90 fish. Wife got him after about an hour.

Actually, I found that the easiest way to sneak into Stormwind (since so many people on my server are dueling at the gates) is to take the new boat from Auberdine to Stormwind Harbor. The new harbor is so huge you'll go virtually undetected, and you can just hearth back.
Of course it helps if you have Water Walking, either from a shammy or the Elixir.
K Whitt Oct 17th 2008 12:34PM
For that note, rogues with the new minor glyph of Sprint (which allows you to walk on water while sprint is activated... a very neat effect for a minor) can pull this off very well also, from the hiding on the boat to the running to a safe spot once it pulls into harbor.
Then again, rogues had the edge on this anyways with stealth.

Does anyone know if you can pull off the Diplomicy one if you are Alliance by fishing in the river under the bridge by Orgrimmar? I'm at work and can't try it out ATM.
Lunchbox Oct 17th 2008 12:14PM
Yes, that's how I did it today.
Amaxe Oct 17th 2008 1:34PM
crap... I never thought of that
Wish I read that before my wild ride into the Valley of Spirits
G Oct 17th 2008 6:13PM
@Lunchbox - Where, exactly? Everywhere in the river I can stand, I'm in the Southfury River. I can't find any spots where I am technically in Org.
webrunner Oct 17th 2008 11:56AM
Got Fishing Diplomat from going up from Westfall: There is a place you can stand on the shore before getting too close to the docks, so not even Water Walking is needed.
Doffencrag Oct 17th 2008 12:05PM
I wish I saw Fantus's and Jeff's suggestions before I did "The Fishing Diplomat" this morning (at an ungodly hour to ensure less bored Allies hanging around Stormwind). Could've saved me a few gold in repairs...
... or not, as I ended up forcing my way to the Stockades to get the Bazil Thredd achievement as well.
Brian Arnold Oct 17th 2008 12:08PM
If you really want to avoid getting ganked as Alliance in Orgrimmar and don't mind waiting for Wrath, here's a cheap answer.
I won't give away the spoiler with it, but at one point there is a quest to go into Orgrimmar. It's phased, and so it's pretty much just you walking in, and guards don't attack or anything, and you see no horde players -- but it's still Orgrimmar.
Don't go talk to the person you have to talk to in order to move the quest along -- just go fish.
Yes, it's cheap, but hey, I'm going to wait. :D
Verit Oct 17th 2008 1:18PM
Which quest is this?
