Raiding has never been easier than in 3.0.2

Karazhan isn't exactly cutting edge content. It's had a few nerfs in its time. That being said, walking into Medivh's home-away-from-evil with a collection of random alts, sightseers, and new-to-raiders can sometimes prove interesting. And by interesting, I mean "repair bill" and "love of all that's Holy, just kill the dang flares!"
Last night was one of those nights. My Guild has spent the last few weeks helping folks prepare for 25-man raiding in Wrath. The gear from Karazhan won't be applicable in the expansion, sure, but the skills and habits you learn now will help you be successful in the future. We had some particularly green folks with us, and while we knew the changes from 3.0.2 would make it easier, we weren't quite aware how easy.
We were breezing along. Who doesn't breeze past Attumen, Maiden, and even Opera? When we hit Curator, we started to really feel the difference. The chap barely made it to his first Evocation. We skipped on past, slapped Aran around, and went up to Prince.
Prince got down two infernals before dying. Confused, I checked the raid's gear. Had our all-in-greens Rogue somehow been replaced with a Warglaive-wielding maniac? Did the new specs really make that much difference?
And then we recalled -- every raid mob in the Burning Crusade got nerfed. So, now, for the next few weeks, we have an odd nirvana in which to help folks learn to raid.
As we've covered pretty thoroughly, the changes to WoW from 3.0.2 are huge. Many classes feel radically different, and everyone's gotten one kind new skill or another. Inscription further buffs our characters. It's even easier to get to the end game, since Recruit-a-Friend triple-XP gets you to Outland so quick. The reduced XP requirements makes going from level 60 to level 70 a flash. But, more importantly for the accessibility of raiding, mobs in Burning Crusades have had their health significantly reduced.
This week, I've seen a Karazhan run in what felt less than an hour. By the time I thought to check the time, the dang thing was almost over. I've seen a 3 minute Gruul fight and a 5 minute Magtheridon fight. The time reductions I've heard for Mt. Hyjal, Serpentshrine, and even Sunwell are all on a similar scale.
This creates an environment where you can take someone even brand new to the game, power them through levels, then help them learn how raiding works. It still benefits you to have the proper gear, but with all the mobs sporting 30% less hit points, it's not quite so critical that you be optimal.
I think we'll be hearing soon about folks who were roadblocked after Karazhan now breezing past Zul'Aman, and maybe even sweeping into the 25 man instances with PUGs. This is a very exciting time to explore the content, and see the stories you may have missed before.
And, for my Guild, some of whom are relatively new to raiding, it's going to be a great time to practice our skills. It's difficult to keep folks motivated when you spend more time wiping than running around. And while it's fair to say "This is too easy," I'm trying to look at it as a chance to put on the training wheels before trotting up to Arthas.

Black Temple and Sunwell are also jokes now. Our guild cleared BT in 3 hours, where it usually takes 6, and got our first Kalecgos win in one shot, and proceeded to take only 4 tries on Brutallus. Illidan only went demon form twice, and we killed him during the second. Simply pathetic.
gundamxzero Oct 17th 2008 4:16PM
Yeah we pugged BT last night up to IC in 2.5 hours. One shotted all bosses minus mother.
Arras Oct 17th 2008 4:12PM
we trounced Hydross, Lurker and Tidewalker last night..previously, we had a lot of trouble with Hydross and Lurker
it really is easy mode, most of us didn't even come close to running out of mana and healing was mostly a breeze. It probably had something to do with more than 60% of the raid rocking 1k+ dps and the tanks having threat coming out of their pores, which allowed the dps to really open up.

I have mixed feelings about it but at the same time there was content I never got to do before such as Kael and beyond. I am excited to see those bosses but I am a bit disappointed I won't have the FULL experience of progression. It's not a deal breaker I just have to make sure I hook up with a more focused guild than I have previous have had in the past.

For some reason I thought it was only SSC/TK and above that were getting nerfed, didn't realize it was affecting KZ as well.
That should make badge gear quite a bit easier to get, for sure.
Tanglefoot Oct 17th 2008 4:13PM
Yup, we downed RoS last night for the first time. Took us three tries. And we pugged at least like 5 dps spots... So yea its nerfed ;)

Its easy cause Blizzard WANTS us struggling raiders to see more content than T5. They clearly want everyone to set foot in Grulls, down prince, smack the lootreaver, and stomp a foot into illidan's arse before everyone runs headlong into Wrath. Never to return to outland except to 5 man a current 25 man raid and post the video on youtube for bragging rights.
Thanks Blizzard I may get to down Illidan after all.
gundamxzero Oct 17th 2008 4:19PM
Yeah really the only bosses in there that take coordination are mother, RoS, and IC.
Bart Oct 17th 2008 4:16PM
Ok.
As soon as people hit 80 and start raiding they will cry about how "hard" the content is.
This will just spoil them and make new players think its just that easy.
Also, I dont know how you can teach a class at 70 how to raid at 80, considering it will be a totally different ball game then. And you dont learn from killing easy stuff, you learn when your challenged and do the hard stuff.
Just watch how people will cry that lvl 80 endgame is impossible etc etc
Naix Oct 17th 2008 4:19PM
When I was rocking threw WC I never expected raids to be that easy. Why would people think that now?
Marcelo Abans Oct 17th 2008 4:26PM
Agreed.. But all the same I'm sure most of the people saying how easy it is are those who HAVE been trying to down those bosses for a while. Brand new people who have NEVER done them before I'm sure will see that they still have be a bit more careful than a regular instance. I don't think it's ez-mode, it's ez-mode for those who have been trying to get it at normal mode for a long time.

How is it any different from the difference between raiding at 60 and raiding at 70? Oh wait, we can HAVE our level 80 talents now.
Of course this is helping people learn to raid at 80. Have you ever played any sports? You practice, then you play scrimmage games, which are easy with nothing on the line. That's to get your skills down, and learn the execution. Then when game time comes, everything is is ramped up.
Same principle can be applied to raiding. You have your easy practice now, people start to learn their abilities, it gets them fired up. By the time they hit 80, they will at the least have some idea what raiding is about. And if it's too difficult for people, then they'll be able to see the Northrend raids right after patch 4.0. No big deal.

You need to have a learning curve. I don't think you walked the first time you managed to stand up. However now you can run. It's all learning and practice, but you have to start somewhere. It's easier to face a new boss knowing a lot of boss mechanics from different encounters than learning those mechanincs on a tough boss, after a lot of wipes. This change is going to give new raiders the experience they need to face the (harder) challenges of the future.

Having done a little bit of raiding at 80 on the beta, I'd have to say it's really not super hard. I suspect that people will get through it without much pain.
Talmar Oct 17th 2008 4:18PM
I don't suppose your guild is on the Quel'dorei realm? :)
I leveled a warrior fury all the way. I've been through the dailys enough times to get my epic mount, been through the BG's enough to get some "welfare" epics, leveled my BS to make my Blazefury and but haven't found a group willing to let me tag along instance wise yet.
I just ran a 50 pally through ZF, that took about 20 minutes to clear out the whole instance. Other than that I've never done an instance but would love to get into running them.
I don't mind being the tank. I'd imagine I'd enjoy it. With the new patch and raid/instance nerfs I've respec'd prot and am going to try and get into some pug's. Need to find some groups with patience to get through the learning curve though.
Finding groups/guilds with your kind of patience is rare indeed.
Naix Oct 17th 2008 4:22PM
Your a tank finding a hard time finding a group?
You may in fact be doing it wrong.
1. Que up for the instance of your choice
2. Go to major city and spam /2 Tank LFG anything
3. Get invited in 2 seconds and about a million tells asking you to join
4. Pick what you want to do.
5. Win

Heh I'm for QD ;p
On the subject... Raids are a joke now. My guild was working on Teron before the patch hit(we were 4/5, 3/9). We have some very experienced members in our group, but most of us have never seen past Teron.
Well, Teron is a complete joke now. He was dead by the time the 2nd Constructs had popped. We decided to hit up RoS after just so most folks could at least get a look at the fight. Well he died on the 2nd attempt.
The next night we smoked Bloodboil one shot, then went and one shotted everything in Hyjal up to Archi. Mother took quite a few attempts, but she's also down. We went from not downing Teron, to being on Council when we get back in Sunday/Monday. I can't imagine how easy Kara is now.
Personally I like the change. It definatley takes some of the thrill out of killing bosses, as they're going down on our first or 2nd attempts... ever. But with a month to go before the xpac, it's great seeing bosses you've never seen before, and some still do pose a slight challenge because of the fight mechanics(we're still going to have to "learn" Archi... we're not powering through that with people standing in fire).
I'll admit I was getting a little bored with raiding, but seeing new bosses, getting new gear before the xpac, and playing around with new talents(and insane Moonkin DPS), I've had more fun this week than I've had in a while.
Talmar Oct 17th 2008 4:39PM
No, I haven't tried to PUG anything as a tank yet. I just respec'd last night and figured out my hot bar.
I'll run my dailys as prot spec'd a couple times just to figure abilities out and what pops up when.
Need to figure out what I can macro and what I can't.
Hopefully it'll be as easy as you say it will be. Unfortunately as my age it gets harder and harder to find people you actually get along with as well. :)

We had a BT raid last night, downing first three bosses felt like a kara badge run
R055 Oct 17th 2008 4:18PM
we went 7/9 BT last night...we were 4/9 before the patch. akama died in under 2 minutes, gorefiend only got one Doom off, did mother with no resist gear. we got council to 4% but people were too tired to try again.
such a joke.
