6 Achievements for the Warsong Gulch Holiday

Capture the Flag
Even if you're not a Druid, you have every right to go and grab that flag. This one should be easy enough to do with a little luck and cooperation from your teammates. You know the drill -- grab that flag and bring it home.
Quick Cap
This one is more difficult than the previous one if you play a class with no special means to move around like Travel Form or Blink. This also requires that you travel virtually unmolested, so any attempt by the opposing team to stop you or possession of your team's flag will likely cut your attempt short. You'll just need a little perseverance here. You should probably travel through the tunnels to try and get both speed buffs and pack some Swiftness Potions for that necessary boost. Keep your fingers crossed.
Warsong Gulch Perfection
If you're pugging it, this one is a matter of luck. With enough games played, you'll be certain to get this Achievement at some point as long as you work towards your goals. The good part about this Achievement is that you don't even really need to think about it. It'll just happen.
Ironman
The only real difficulty about this Achievement is that other players will try to grab the flag, too. Don't think about this too much, just keep trying to capture the flag. If another player grabs it, you can stop worrying about the Achievement and hope you can run for it the next game. The idea here is to keep trying for the flag every game. If you are able to get the assistance of a dedicated healer, the 'not dying' part should be more attainable.
Not In My House
Turtle. That's really the only way this will work. If you have one or two other guys with you, this will be considerably easier. Of course, if your opponents come in full force every time, you should abandon this Achievement and try for something else. It's important to note that you don't need to return the flags yourself, just be around for the Honorable Kill.
Frenzied Defender
Unlike Not In My House, you'll need to return the flags yourself. The good news is that you can do this pretty much anywhere on the map, all you need is masterful clicking skills and a tunnel vision towards the enemy flag carrier. As long as you click fast enough, this should be cake.
Good luck, have fun, and be well on your way to becoming Master of Warsong Gulch!

also, free action pots are OMG HAX for WSG. Go in with a few stacks of those and swift pots for good times and /spit emotes from your opponents.

haven't done this stuff since my twink days, but for wsg achievements I think I'll have to do it again :P

BGs seem a bit messed up for my realm/battlegroup at this time. Joining AVs with 27 Alliance against 3 Horde, hasn't been too hard completing most of the achievements on offer. Same goes for the other battlegrounds.

Think I've written off about half of the PvP achievements playing as a healer.

Battlegrounds in general have been wrecked by this patch. I think it's mostly temporary, but this was a rough week for sure...
First there are tons and tons of brand-new 70s who don't seem to know what's going on, so they simply fight the first enemy they see (when they're not wandering around uselessly).
Next there are old-timers who haven't played in a while, and refuse to acknowledge that there have been more than a few patch-changes to battlegrounds throughout TBC (many of the "old ways" do NOT work anymore...get over it).
Then there's the crowd who clearly have not PvP'd much at all, but want to try it out because of all the new changes (ESP. achievements, but I'll get to that).
Finally, there's the rest of us who spend a lot of time in BGs in general, only now are more interested in testing out their new abilities against as many enemies as possible- to heck with ANY objectives or thoughts of winning (I know it's only a game, but I'd rather win the ones I play...if you wanna just d*ck around, visit STV or something)
Those are the folks botching things up, but the game itself? These achievements are a HUGE distraction; I've come across several groups looking to get those defending achievements done...and I thought WSG was painful before...Yes, some achievements are in line with game-objectives; but it's turned into a ME ME ME ME ME parade...i don't want a lock running the flag when a druid is right there (i love my lock...but he's no good for that job)...
The next change hasn't really been talked about, but when you look at WHO is in these BGs, and all these things already making it difficult to succeed (win), this is a big one. The stat window in every BG has had the "bonus honor" in the far right column. It's now called "total honor"...it now tracks everyone's accumulated honor right up to the very end. Everyone sees what everyone else is getting (this is why we don't usually talk about salaries at work). SUDDENLY, farming hks is the thing to do above all else. suddenly, BG objectives are out the window, because "that guy fighting in the middle got 30 more honor than i did...I'm not gonna run/defend the flag anymore"...so the remaining few DOING what it takes to win are tempted to bail, leaving everyone with a loss; people will give up hundreds of honor to keep someone else from getting just a few more than them. Silly? yep. Childish, selfish? yep. Are AVs filled with battles in the field of stife, WSG in mid-field, EotS everywhere BUT at towers? In my battlegroup, absolutely. (btw, AB seems to lend itself to these things- collect somewhere and fight- so other than an unprecedented frequency of flags being left undefended, it's almost business as usual there)
I really really really hope this settles down a bit..i hope the newest crop of BG attendees pays attention, learns, listens up, gets those achievements out of their focus, and gets back to winning some games.

In addition to what you said, I also noticed a decrease of the number of healers in BGs, which may have to do with the new talent specs and objectives, with the objectives having more to do with killing than healing. Then again, it maybe the old stigma about the treatment of BG healers maybe getting to those healers again.
zappo Oct 19th 2008 11:35AM
@thallid - I do pvp healing. Would you really want to run BGs with ret paladins the way you are? You can't heal anyone because either you're dead, or the person who you try to heal had died before the heal lands. There is really nothing for me to do in BGs at the moment
zappo Oct 19th 2008 11:40AM
Oh, In addition I agree with the "me me me" thing. Anyone who heals in BGs does so because we like working towards the higher goal in a team effort. In EotS I'll heal an assault, and I'll heal defense. I will NOT heal the middle quagmire unless it will determine the outcome. And really with everyone testing things out, and achievements this is sort of counter to what healers go into BGs for.

The problem right now with BGs, especially the potentially endless WSG is many people are content just using it as an extended duel, trying out their new specs and abilities, fighting in midfield over and over again paying no attention to help our FC. I had a wsg last night that went for 30 minutes with only one cap, even though we were dominating hks, dmg, and healing over the other team. It happened mroe than once too; very frustrating and makes it hard to get many achievement.

blinking with the flag ends up with you dropping the flag.
Thander Oct 19th 2008 2:29AM
Has this been changed in 3.0.2? I used to do this all the time on my mage to get away.
Fireflash38 Oct 19th 2008 11:55AM
Bullshit.
I have blinked multiple times with the flag and not had it drop.
Ice Block drops it (done that out of reflex before), rocket boots drops it.

I think the Quick Cap archievement is bugged still. As a rogue I picked up the flag and used the Sprint chest in the tunnel, when it faded I used my own sprint and when it was up I was almost home and used the Sprint chest in our tunnel. Capped the flag.
It couldn't have taken more than 45sec altogether, I didn't get that reward.

On the other hand, won the speed achievement in AB. I suspect I jumped into a fairly organized group, we made initial plans quickly (who was headed to what flag), and who would stay to defend if alive. We grabbed the first 4 quickly, and the survivors decended upon the remaining one like a swarm of locusts.
As a hunter (and apparently an outsider) I volunteered to remain at a flag - so high honor wasn't mine.
That being said, my druid alt would like to see more healing awards, or better yet a healing option to dammage/flag carrying awards (Carry the flag 3 times, or heal a flag carrier for X points during a single battle).
