Alchemists can train Mixology in Patch 3.0.2

The Gathering Professions got some undocumented love in Patch 3.0.2. But what about the Crafting Professions? If you scour the patch notes, the only thing you find about professions is a brief note about Inscription being in game and how it affects enchanting. Unlike last year, there was no Professions panel at BlizzCon 2008 and they only briefly mentioned professions in the Q&A session.
After much research, the only new ability I was able to find that is similar to what the gathering professions got is Mixology, which Alchemists can train at theMaster any Alchemy Trainer. in either Honor Hold or Thrallmar. Our Alex Ziebart and friends tested it out in the beta and determined an approximate 25% bonus when drinking flasks and elixirs. It's a nice little bonus and I'm happy to have it, I just wish the patch notes had told me it was in the Echoes of Doom patch rather than having to find out from a helpful commenter.
Are the other crafting professions getting abilities in Wrath? The Q&A panel said they were going to make sure all professions were valuable in the endgame. Does that mean more Mixology and Lifeblood-like abilities or other self-only benefits? What abilities do you think the other crafting professions should get?

Hmmm.. does this stack with alchemist stone?
Earthmama Oct 19th 2008 5:08PM
Ack.. nevermind.. Alchy stone is for pots. my bad :D

My flask duration went from 2hrs to 4 hrs with mixology.
Woot!

I checked jewelcrafting, enchanting and tailoring and we got nothing. Not sure about blacksmithing or engineering yet.
Is something being implemented for the other professions or did just the gathering and Alchemy get love?

In the patch I think only Alch and the gathering profs got this type of bonus; but in Wotlk most professions get some cool self-only bonuses.
BS can add gem sockets into their own gloves and bracers, Tailors can do those Embroidery enchants to their cloaks plus they get their own flying mount.

While I think Blizzard eventually will add bonuses into all the crating professions for the sake of "fairness," Alchemy was in DIRE need of a buff like this after the changes to potions.
You will consume far, FAR less potions now than you did before, and the way of thinking behind raiding as mentioned many times now by the devs is that it is less about the pots and more about the players.
Even after this buff there is less incentive to train alchemy after this patch, and I am thinking about dropping it one of my two "mains" for something else.

Alchemy gets the love, because the only alchemist-exclusive aspect of the profession is the trinket and the mad alchemist's potion. All other professions have a lot more exclusive stuff to offer their users, so this was done to make alchemy comparable to the others.
They don't need any more love; they've already gotten their fair share and then some in many cases.

Logically, each profession's bonus should improve its worth to the individual player, similar to mixology, here.
Blacksmiths could tailor-make their weapons and armor for themselves, gaining additional protection or damage, as an example.
Now, engineering. I kind of like the idea of an 'eccentric mind' buff that has a random effect.

This is already implemented, with all the BOP items all the other professions have.
Sean Riley Oct 20th 2008 7:20PM
Yes, but that's specialty items. What I'm talking about here is a flat, across the board bonus given to any items with a 'made by ' tag.

All the gathering professions got their new bonus without even having to go to the trainer to learn them.
Taedirk Oct 19th 2008 5:20PM
Friendly note: I've been seeing upwards of 50% bonuses from Mixology on the pre-200 alch elixirs with my rogue. Agility, Fortitude, and Strength potions are all coming back with varied numbers. Next time I log in, I'll take a few notes, but it's definitely more than a base 25% bonus.
Chris Anthony Oct 20th 2008 1:03PM
My elixirs, at level 70 and 350 Alchemy, are gaining +50% to effects and +100% to duration, if my notes are correct.
Draenors Oct 19th 2008 5:34PM
It would make more sense if Mixology was also gained automatically like the gathering abilities.
By the way, you don't need to go to Honor Hold og Thrallmar to learn it. The alchemist trainer in Shattrath works fine.
Wulfkin Oct 19th 2008 8:48PM
I got mine from the trainer in Orgrimmar, so i think all major trainers can probably teach it.
Binya Oct 19th 2008 10:40PM
My 33 Druid with ~250 Alchemy learned it in Darnassus, so like it was said, pretty sure you can get it from any trainer.
Lemons Oct 19th 2008 5:42PM
yup found this out when my alchemist friend told me he had it.
Aerei Oct 19th 2008 5:48PM
I'm slightly bothered by this. I think it's fair that gathering professions get something neat to keep people interested in sticking with them even when they're raiding at the level cap. Crafting professions already have things they can only use because they're part of that profession (BoP gear/gems, self-only ring enchants, items that require Engineering skill). Maybe Alchemist stones are a little lacklustre, but Mixology seems like more than enough of a bonus on its own.
*shrug*
Iwanttobeasleep Oct 19th 2008 6:02PM
In defense of buffing alchemy, the philosopher's stones, while nice, don't compare to the BoP items from other professions, and the equip bonus (+40% to pots) is a lot less useful now that we're limited to one potion a fight. They're nice, but not compared to the other crafting profession BoPs. Mixology is pretty much the only great non-alchemist buff that alchemists get. Especially since there's no Wrath equivalent to the stones.
Aerei Oct 19th 2008 11:13PM
Actually, there are stones in Wrath, which don't require previous stones to make, even. Also, I did say stones are lacklustre, but my point is that Mixology would be enough on its own. It's an honestly pretty amazing buff, especially if the people claiming it's 50% are right.
