Someone at wowwiki.com suggested that Blizzard will be able to do basically anything when they design the in-game fight with Arthas. Ner'zhul was a shaman (nature, fire, healing) who became a warlock (fire, shadow, demon-summoning) who became a lich (frost, shadow, necromantic magic). Arthas was a paladin (holy, melee combat, healing) who became a death knight (frost, disease, shadow, melee combat.) When we fight Arthas we know that we aren't going to get turned into sheep, and Arthas won't turn himself into a bear, but other than that anything can happen.
