Breakfast Topic: Achievement envy
I've just about had it with all you Achievement whores! Yep, I mean you, that guy who just has to open up his map in places he's never bothered to go before. And I mean you, too, that dude who keeps on learning pets and mounts just to get that stinky pet and an overgrown pigmentally-challenged lizard. You put too much pressure on me. No, really. My guild has gone on a Dora rampage and guild chat keeps lighting up with silly messages about this guy exploring Azshara or this girl exploring Ghostlands.I don't care! I tried not to take Mike's poll on Achievements because I didn't want my epeen to shrink any further. I cry uncle on all you explorers and pet collectors and mount enthusiasts. Okay, the truth is, all those Achievements just make me want to stop my Battleground grind -- ok, I confess I'm pursuing Achievements myself, but it just isn't as fast as all that exploration.
My guildies are racking up Achievement points paying visits to VC or Balny and the Baron while I toil away not getting any 'shwing' sounds for hours on end. The time I got Wrecking Ball, nobody else was online! Bummer. So hey, what about you? Are you suffering from Achievement insecurity or are you an Achievement whore like everyone else? How're those points coming along?

2305 and still climbing.
Jim Oct 20th 2008 8:28AM
2425 and I have no PvP achievements.
st0rmy1 Oct 19th 2008 10:15AM
No, the first thing I did five minutes after logging in was disable guild and proximity announce. Done and done.

i'm an Achievement whore, but i've met a couple of people who bitch about the spam it causes. I've told them it will die down rather sharply, but that it's just part of the game now and they'll have to live with with it until Blizzard installs a filter for it.
Fenn Oct 19th 2008 8:38AM
There's a filter already - just go to your settings on the chat window, and click off the option in 'Other' for Achievements. Voilá

I'm a self confessed Achievement whore. They are a fun diversion from raiding and farming. 242/750 and counting :)

This achievement crap will make me go insane
But i guesss i didnt have anything to do prepatch, so i guess having something to do is better then nothing right?

OK OK OK...I was grinding Darnassus rep for a tiger before the achievements came out.
But now I'm looking @ Exodar and Gnome Exiles and thinking..hhhhmmm I could do that.
The low level Q tracker is depressing coz I find myself stopping to go back over stuff I did with alts but not with my main - It's absurd.
And the worst is according to achievements I never did Ragnaros, Scholo, Strat but worst of all SM and Blackfathom Depths. So off I go to solo them (except MC ofc)....for what? I have screenshots of the dead guys!!!
I was adamant I would not do the achievements but I am which therefore confirms my addiction to the game which I am reminded of by my wife everyday. I will stop achievements right now....except Brewmaster...and heroics....
If I'm being cynical, they did this to stop us playing Warhammer.

Ummm ... the low level quest tracker never made it into the game. It's one of the things Blizzard left out of the patch ...
kabshiel Oct 19th 2008 12:55PM
It's in the game. You have to choose it from the tracking menu, y'know the one that holds your "Find Herbs" and "Track Humanoids" abilities. I just used it.
Galmr Oct 19th 2008 12:57PM
Not true. The low-level quest tracker is available in live, thanks to Echoes of Doom. Click your tracker button, and you'll see it at the bottom of the list.
Bootsanator Oct 19th 2008 1:07PM
umm, osi, did you even bother looking? the low level quest tracker has been implemented...
Itirel Oct 19th 2008 8:16AM
You can turn off the messages in the chat filter options. Then you can forget about it all. ^_^
turtlehead Oct 19th 2008 10:49AM
Thank god for that. Turned off the alerts soon as I logged on and bingo, I'll never have to interact with or think about achievements ever again. Glad people are enjoying them but I couldn't care less.
At least Blizzard got 'em right. If they're ever changed to give other than purely cosmetic rewards I'll be the one leading the riot.
Clbull Oct 19th 2008 8:19AM
I'm only going to bother with certain achievements that actually offer rewards to be honest (like the ones that offer new mounts, titles, tabards and vanity pets), which would be few of them. I hate to admit it but the only point I seen of achievements is to brag about them.
Not saying that its a bad idea though, but I think there should be extra rewards for getting a high amount of Achievement points

I'm more or less with you on this one. I'm an alt-o-holic, and since I don't yet have one of every class to 70, I'm not really bored enough to need more to do. Plus, which character am I supposed to focus on? I do like the idea of achievements for a change of pace, but the ones with prizes are the best. The rest is just a little too "what's the point?" Even for a game that's all about wasting time I like to feel like I've accomplished (har) something with my time wasting!
Kalerender Oct 19th 2008 8:24AM
I'm a total whore for them.
3085 points, 295 completed achievements, still another 3 heroics to get around to doing as well which is an easy 50 points.
These BG one's are great, take my mind off the WSG rep grind/how often I seem to get stuck with the suck pugs, and gives me something else to focus on.
Caustik Oct 19th 2008 8:34AM
I really don't care about achievements.
I've got 9 70, one of them has been raiding pre BC and only Onyxia was counted.
I don't want to bother for such time sinks.
Fenn Oct 19th 2008 8:41AM
9 70s and you don't want to bother with time sinks? What do you think this game is? :)
I've 3 70s myself. The hardest part is trying to get the achievements on my main when i know I might have a better chance on getting some of them on one of the others...
