Realm issues for the evening of October 21st
Blizzard is well aware of the realm issues that are plaguing the game tonight, October 21st. They have said in the opening in-game announcement that they're working on it, and now have posted as much on the forums. They will also be restarting all realms shortly. For those of you not experiencing the issue, just about every time you try to enter an instance you receive a "transfer aborted" message or some other such error. This is causing quite a bit of havoc on guild as they try to push hard during the last few weeks of Burning Crusade raiding.
We'll update this post throughout the evening when Blizzard releases any more statements.

On Drenden-US, we weren't getting errors - the instances were just empty of mobs, spawns, etc. It was pretty entertaining for a few minutes - but then it was just lonely. :/

Stuck at twins in AQ 40. Didn't matter though. A full raid of 70 only wiped the first attempt at twins. Why can't people simply follow the rules/plan for bosses that aren't as simple as pewpew? Third AQ40 failboat in a week.

This is why Archimond is now arguably the hardest boss outside of the sunwell.

On Cho'gall all the instance servers crashed simultaneously. It was amusing seeing like 50 people in our guild drop at the same time. Now you can't even get into instances. you get a message about how wow can't create new instances at this time, "please try later".

Enjoy your 50 cents.

@ Falcrist
I'm on Cho'gall too (Bashsmash - Tauren Shammy) and I, perhaps for the better, had RL stuff going on last night and didn't get time to log in. With the coming of Wrath, my guild has been running all the old dungeons/raids for achievements to get them out of the way so we can work on Wrath achievements when they become available. I'm wondering how many other guilds are thinking the same thing, and if all this activity in the "old world" instances is contributing to the problems... hahaha...

As we'd say in Australia.. Blizzard couldn't organise a root in a brothel

I swear, were owed AT LEAST a free day of playtime for all this lag. Why did Blizzard release such a buggy lag-inducing patch before it was finished?
I smell the work of Activision.

I was just going to suggest the same thing.
This is a paid service. We are the ones losing money here. And I think it's only fair to compensate us for that lost time.
Chris Anthony Oct 21st 2008 10:57PM
This is about as goofy as the idea that pops up now and again that Blizzard should compensate players for weekly maintenance.
You play Blizzard for access to the game at their discretion - not 24/7 continuous access. They have the privilege of choosing whether or not to compensate for lost time, and generally they err on the side of not compensating.

Hmm.. my last comment didn't show up. Apologies in advance for a double-post..
Offloader - While it's a nice idea, you don't pay specifically for access to the servers, only for an account which can be locked at Blizzard's discretion. There's no uptime or service guarantee in the Terms of Service at all.

@Chris Anthony
My comment was not in response to maintenance, it is in response to the terrible state of almost every server since patch 3.0 hit.

It doesn't follow that Maintenence Tuesdays should give refund days. Blizzard makes it clear this is normally a weekly thing.
However, for the past few days we have not been able to access most of the game, and that is a different matter.

Maintenance is one thing. What we are experiencing is quite another. I'm kind of getting tired hearing from people who, for some reason, think they are Blizzard lawyers.
Janaa Oct 22nd 2008 12:38AM
Offload - And we're tired of hearing from people who, for some reason, can't understand a plain, straight-forward, Terms of Service or Terms of Use document. God knows how you people apply for mortgages or write a will..
Janaa Oct 22nd 2008 12:39AM
*offday.. knew I should've scrolled up to check the name.. Wonder what I was thinking of that made me come up with "offload". Oh well.
Graham Oct 22nd 2008 12:57AM
They don't owe us anything. The patch was HUGE and I understand how it must be hard to integrate into the game. At least they found out what was causing the problem (or so they say).
These things happen.

On Skullcrusher-US, the server has had everything crash from the Instances, to the Battleground, to the AH, and even each continent. This has happened for the past few days here. I hope this is fixed asap :\
Janaa Oct 21st 2008 11:20PM
It's been a similar story on virtually all servers.. It was fun running around Shattrath on Aman'Thul with none of those pesky NPCs..
superfrank Oct 22nd 2008 6:13AM
same on skullcrusher-eu!

I fear for the future of phased content if we cant even handle instances.
