Titan's Grip hit penalty down to 5%
Titan's Grip, in case there are any of you in the audience who are not familiar with it, is the Fury Warrior 51-point talent. It allows the warrior to wield two 2-handed weapons (or a 2h and a shield, I guess, if they wanted to). Pretty awesome, right? Yes. But as a counterbalance, to make sure Fury isn't doing overly insane DPS, it imposes a penalty in the form of a decreased chance to hit with "damage-dealing abilities that require a weapon" (i.e. most special attacks). That decrease started out at 15%, and was changed to 12% before 3.0.2 went live. Ghostcrawler has now announced that they're changing it again, to only 5% decreased chance to hit with special attacks.
This is a massive buff. Part of it is in response to raising raid boss armor by 10%, but this goes well beyond correcting for that. GC says that this probably makes TG a bit overpowered for a 51-pointer. I have, though, seen many, many Warriors complaining about the huge miss chance when the talent is picked up, so hopefully those complaints will be put to rest now. Oh, and the attack power coefficient of Bloodthirst is up too, from 45% to 50% (i.e. it will scale better as you get more AP). But man, TG is going to be crazy good now.
Updated for accuracy.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, although Im sure Blizz will rebalance if its out of line. What I would like to know is how the current well geared Fury warriors are doing on the DPS meters, any of you out there can add more info?

I'm fury spec, currently sporting the 2 fist weapons from the isle badge vendor. We went back to ZA for the first time in wuite a while as a guild and I topped the DPS charts after the 4 animal bosses, followed closely by a mage. I did not pick up TG yet, but plan on respeccing before this weeks run to see how it fares compared to the fist weapons. oh, btw, raid was almost all in Kara gear.

A substantial buff it would seem, given the chance for missing for most dual wielders is 24%
Archex Oct 22nd 2008 9:26AM
That's the miss chance on white attacks I believe. The miss chance on specials was 9%, and then with the TG penalty it became 24% on specials. That meant (at L70) you had to stack ~380 Hit to get back to the special Hit cap. Now, the hit penalty on TG'g warriors at L70 will be 14% on specials (9 base + 5 TG penalty) which is a much nicer 221 HR req'd to not miss specials.
That is a HUGE deal, not only in that it's now pretty simple to re-cap specials again at L70 w/o Sunwell quality gear, but also b/c you can do it w/o sacrificing Str and Crit gems.
I think Blizz is doing this knowing that they are going to fix Deep Wounds, which is currently OP due to OH crits causing as much DW damage as MH (so you just get yourself a superfast dagger OH, stack crit and basically keep refreshing DW over and over and over while not paying any damage penalty for the dagger).

Stack more hit.
Sincerely,
The rogues.

I always thought that 10% would be fair but this means i might actually spec one of my warriors fury :)
Funkylolo Oct 22nd 2008 8:45AM
It's buffed to 5% miss on special attacks only (in line with classic special attacks miss chance), so white damage will still be affected by the -12% hit.
jebuspwns Oct 22nd 2008 3:06PM
Please learn wtf you are talking about before posting. Titan's grip never affected the hit rating on white damage.
Sarem Oct 22nd 2008 8:45AM
It doesnt even matter, everyone is doing soo much dmg these small changes are irrelevent.
last night in bt our titan's grip warrior was 4th on overall dmg. with 2 enh shams on top. what is the world coming to?
turke Oct 22nd 2008 6:58PM
/w Sarem Yeah my enhancement shaman has been buffed big time. I wonder how long before the powers that be notice.
brucimus Oct 22nd 2008 8:46AM
Most duel wielders can heal themselves or disappear into thin air
Stiksy Oct 22nd 2008 8:46AM
Actually the miss penalty for TG is still 12%. Only the coefficient for special attacks (yellow) will be reduced to 5%.
unigolyn Oct 22nd 2008 9:09AM
Stiksy, you're wrong. The TG penalty only ever applied to specials. White damage was and is affected by the dual-wield penalty, which for a boss is still 28%.
5% is awesome. I feel like somewhat of a fool for even bothering to get soft capped for 12% on live but ah well.
Now, locks need some serious help. Destro DPS is pretty abysmal at 70 and the rotation is just ridiculously overcomplicated compared to every other class.
infection Oct 22nd 2008 10:16AM
yeah, seeing that since the game started you spammed one spell basically....
bout time destro got some spell rotation, since affliction has had that from the start and now its gotten worse.
welcome to shadow priest, affliction locks, rogues having to watch combo points with timing on SaD, healers having to debuff and heal, tanks having to handle multiple mobs....
oh wait... welcome to actually having to play your class
Lemons Oct 22nd 2008 2:42PM
wow infection just wtfpwned
Kastirin Oct 22nd 2008 5:27PM
I don't disagree with you, but last night our #1 on damage in BT was a frost mage spamming frostbolt, nothing else.
Same rotation, different classes.
Soulbento Oct 23rd 2008 6:02AM
Well this is definitely good news for fury warriors. And this change has cemented fury as the second spec for my prot warrior.
My lock however has been giving me nothing but grief. I raided as fire and shadow destro before the patch to much success...but since the patch he's been left far behind the shamans and pallies I used to obliterate miserably. What gives? Not that I mind once down trodden DPS specs getting buffed...but the warlock is strictly a DPS class, it's all they do, yet now they pale in comparison to other classes "off specs." It's just disheartening when I'm below ret pallies and shamans in friggen S2 on the charts. QQQQQQQQQQQQQ

wtf is this.. they will nerf the paladin in the comming patch but beside this other caracter will be increased in dps skils... and stuff. So it's not enough that the paladin will be nerfed back .. but other caracters will be OverPowered again.. so paladin will suck again. omg i can't believe this
Sae Nov 3rd 2008 12:42AM
God all you pallie tards are living in a dream world where you think its ok that you can kill 3 ppl at the same time hahahaha ok yeah thats cool diaf
Dez Oct 22nd 2008 9:03AM
I've always liked to try out stuff and see for myself, not only because I don't listen to all the "talk" but also because nevertheless I want to know the talents for my class and how they work. So many ppl said TG sucks and it's "miss miss miss", then I got it for myself (lv 63 atm) and it's too awesome.
At the start I only had ONE 2Hander, still kick ass. Now imagine reduced hit penalty on top of this, oh man. Oh and I still didn't get 2 talents that each increase damage by 10%, gonna respecc now so that's +20% more damage. It was sick from before, now add +20% dmg and 10% reduced hit penalty, you're gonna 2shot mobs and ppl in duel. I more or less did this from before, unless of course they healed or whatever. Note "more or less" though, not 2Shot but really not far from it.
Funny all that talk about TG being crap by so many ppl, yet again reminds me that I should always see for myself. Also funny the ppl who still are skeptical even after this hit buff, like "hm ye i might try TG now... im a arms fanboy so i dont like to say that fury is good... ye."
