Titan's Grip hit penalty down to 5%
Titan's Grip, in case there are any of you in the audience who are not familiar with it, is the Fury Warrior 51-point talent. It allows the warrior to wield two 2-handed weapons (or a 2h and a shield, I guess, if they wanted to). Pretty awesome, right? Yes. But as a counterbalance, to make sure Fury isn't doing overly insane DPS, it imposes a penalty in the form of a decreased chance to hit with "damage-dealing abilities that require a weapon" (i.e. most special attacks). That decrease started out at 15%, and was changed to 12% before 3.0.2 went live. Ghostcrawler has now announced that they're changing it again, to only 5% decreased chance to hit with special attacks.
This is a massive buff. Part of it is in response to raising raid boss armor by 10%, but this goes well beyond correcting for that. GC says that this probably makes TG a bit overpowered for a 51-pointer. I have, though, seen many, many Warriors complaining about the huge miss chance when the talent is picked up, so hopefully those complaints will be put to rest now. Oh, and the attack power coefficient of Bloodthirst is up too, from 45% to 50% (i.e. it will scale better as you get more AP). But man, TG is going to be crazy good now.
Updated for accuracy.

don't even try to duel pala, mage and some other freaky overbuffed class. I mean pala dmg is just insane...i hit BF and before i get my gcd down to hit some other skill he does something like 6k holy damage...if u manage to get the little pussy to something like 20%...well guess what...BUBBLE...gj blizz...nice beta testing and class balancing ;)
P.S. I feel sorry for shadow priests...getting killed by everybody can't be much fun

Thank the Titans! There is a god. Now I may consider TG, even though arms is amazing me still, top dps in most instances!
Dawkins Oct 22nd 2008 9:16AM
Would someone do me a favor and tell me what the white and yellow miss percentage (an associated hit rating to overcome them) is for bosses in these three scenarios: untalented, with Titan's Grip, and with Titan's Grip and the +Hit talent maxed? Thanks.

Certainly does alter the perception of the Paladin Retribution 51 point talent a bit...

Unigolyn's got it right

To my experience in fairly low-level instances with uncomplicated boss fights (granting a more 'readable' level of raid DPS), Fury warriors are doing notably higher than Rogues and Warlocks and currently slightly less than Ret Paladins. In fact, I have yet to see a real Ret Paladin (not a rerolled Holy Paladin in welfare epics) not at the top of any raid or heroic's DPS meter assuming no massive gear disaparity (I saw one in badge loot lose out to a SWP Hunter, but that's life).
Not to be distracted, Fury Warriors generally are doing very solid and healthy DPS...and I would definitely say a lot more than before (not just in raw numbers, but in standings on the chart). Bear in mind this is only my first-hand experience in heroics (~15 or so across two characters) and a few low-level raids (ZA, Gruul, TK).
In the first instance (ZA) I did with a Fury warrior on my Warlock with the same gear as before the patch and the same rough spec I would rate about 15-20% damage overall than him. Now, I trail about that same margin behind. Whatever changes elsewhere, that is a massive buff for Warriors but it's a matter of debate whether that's from TG alone or not.
Erikamel Oct 22nd 2008 10:13AM
Man I can't wait for dual-specs! I went prot the other day after months of hating it, and it rocks so much! Soon I'll be able to enjoy both options of awesomeness!
Solitare-sp Oct 22nd 2008 10:16AM
Wow...healers are going to have an even more harder time keeping up with this extra DPS...
bigdaddyjay Oct 22nd 2008 10:19AM
Hellz yea! As a TG warrior, I have 270hit unbuffed and i do great damage with the 15% that we play with now on live. This new buff means I'll be replacing those 3 hit gems I have (most of my hit comes from gear) with Crit! or maybe even haste... Such tough decisions for us poor TG warriors. Hell, I might just go back to my original gem scheme (almost entirely str). either way, I can think of a lot of people that are gonna QQ over this... and none are warriors!

But Retribution Paladins are not allowed to deal holy damage with their 51-point talent. Oh, and tier 3 warrior talents are just great for "fixing" problems with tier 10 paladin talents.
Nice one, Bliz.
muffin_of_chaos Oct 22nd 2008 11:59AM
Because the Warrior 51-point talent deals Holy damage? I think you're mixing 'em up.
And yeah, Ret Pallies and Arms Warriors are perfectly balanced and in no way could you ever say that Ret Pallies are capable of instagibbing much better and yet also survive longer...
partren Oct 22nd 2008 2:43PM
I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or disagreeing with me in your second statement.
Besides, if you're complaining about Paladin burst damage in PvP, the developers have stated that that was what they wanted Paladins to -do- in PvP. Remove that, and what do they have left?
muffin_of_chaos Oct 22nd 2008 3:54PM
As opposed to warriors? Healing...bubbling...not being reliant on rage...ranged attacks.
Complaining about that isn't even used for PvP, in terms of PvP...is kinda interesting.
To be honest, I just have no idea what your argument is. Divine Storm is an aoeing self-heal instant attack usable in PvE or PvP, Titan's Grip helps PvE Warrior dps. People complained about Paladin burst damage and it was gimped back a bit, but still better than Warriors (albeit only every six seconds or so). But now my fellow Paladins are QQing even more relatively about this minor nerf than they accused everyone else of QQing about their major buff. It's all hypocritical and junk.
partren Oct 23rd 2008 8:50AM
The longest-range attack that paladins get is Judgement (40 yards), assuming that he's specced far enough into Holy to get it. The next longest range attack is Avenger's Shield (30 yards), assuming the paladin has specced far enough into Protection to get it. Retribution Paladins will never have enough talent points to get either of those talents (and still be considered "Retribution Paladins").
My initial comments were pointing out that the changes made to the Retribution tree weren't the right ones to make. Pre-hotfix/3.0.3 patch, the abilities in Retribution were interesting, fun to use, and powerful. Arguably, they were a little too powerful, and needed some _tweaking._ However, now Divine Storm has lost its uniqueness and usefulness (mitigation of the damage decreases the healing it provides), and Righteous Vengeance (Tier 10) now has the same effect as a Tier 3 Warrior ability, also not unique, and probably not as powerful as Tier 10 talents should be.
There were other changes that could have been made instead that could have kept the fun and the flavor of the spec and it's abilities without it being "overpowered." These were not those changes.

Has anyone checked on Rossi this morning? He might be hyperventilating in a joy pile underneath his desk at this news.
Dawkins Oct 22nd 2008 11:03AM
Matt Rossi:
"But fury could be fixed fairly easily by lowering the miss chance to something reasonable like 5%."

Yeah, something tells me he will be happy.
bigdaddyjay Oct 22nd 2008 11:21AM
Me thinks Rossi is absent from this discussion for the same reason. he probably fainted. Someone over there at wowinsider pay the man a visit and make sure he's ok for us.
Todd Oct 22nd 2008 10:52AM
Hey thats my picture woot!! Thats my wifes warrior Wubby. When the patch hit she specced TG but we couldn't get her hit rating high enough and the miss was too annoying. Re-specced to Bladestorm and have been there since. Can't wait for the dual-spec option to come so we can give TG another go.
But it really did look great with the two merc swords.
Elmo Oct 22nd 2008 11:27AM
Our Fury warrior already does massive DPS and most of all Melee with TG in it's current form.
all he says is: the tards who whine about TG are Welfare S2 scrubs who don't use hit.
those Welfare S2 scrubs are also going to be monsters now.
Tcgjarhead Oct 22nd 2008 1:08PM
Obviously your fury warrior doesnt know what he was talking about seeing as the majority of warriors were complaining about how the talent and the counterbalance would effect the class at 80, not 70.
Not to mention some of the most knowledgable and well known warriors in the game were among those "complaining".
