Ask a Beta Tester: This and that

Let's start today off with dfsnow's question...
What's happening with Alchemy and Alchemist's Stones in WotLK? Alchemist's stones have been like enchanting rods where you need the previous one to create the next one. Are new players going to have to grind Sha'tar and then SSO rep to create the reagent they need to create their level 80 Alchemist's Stone? I don't have to tell you how hard it will be to grind Sha'tar rep with no one running BC instances any more.
The new Alchemists stones aren't tied to the older ones at all. All the new ones will require to make is the appropriate Alchemy skill, some herbs, some eternals and maybe some oils.
Johan asked...
Have you seen any Wrath quests that grant home city faction rep?
I have not.
svenhoek asked...
What happens if a Death Knight leaves the starting area before coming back to the side of the Horde/Alliance? Are they hostile to all factions?
I do not believe you actually can leave the starting area until you're supposed to do so. It's all phased and you can only go so far before you have to turn back. I'm not sure if you can get summoned out or not, but I don't imagine that'll do good things for you.
roa asked...
What's with the limited talent points upon creating a new DK? How can you get hold of all talent points up to level 55?
You earn your talent points via the Death Knight starter quests. In addition to the gold, experience, and items you normally get from quests, Death Knights will also get 1-3 talent points. This is so you don't roll up your character and the first thing you need to do is spend 45 talent points before you've ever even played the class.
szander asked...
Will you get XP for dailies in the expansion?
Yes.

Apologies if this has been asked already;
Is it a lot quicker to level up fishing in the expansion?
Cadhy Oct 23rd 2008 12:33PM
Yes, from what ive read you only need 4-6 fishes to gain a skill between 375-450, wich makes it ALOT easier. http://www.elsanglin.com/wrath.html think its in there somewhere

This might not be a question a beta tester might know, but ill ask it anyways...
do you think they will be opening up any new realms when WOTLK hits, to accomodate a lot of new or returning players to the game? I always love rolling toons on new realms, everything always seems so fresh!
JaneLame Oct 23rd 2008 12:02PM
100g that you have a Scepter of the Shifting Sands lying in your bank, waiting.
Turtlehead Oct 23rd 2008 12:18PM
"100g that you have a Scepter of the Shifting Sands lying in your bank, waiting."
I'll double your bet that he has forty level twenty toons and no Scepter on any of them.

I know for a certainty that they are upgrading servers, but as for adding new realms? Yet to be seen. My assumption is going to be "yes," because Wrath's release is going to produce a massive influx of players and their money.
VSUReaper Oct 23rd 2008 1:17PM
How about instead of starting new realms, just fix the ones we already have. I have toons on 2 servers, one is almost dead (had one guild in Sunwell before the nerf) and my main server that is quickly dying (top 10 guilds all x-fered off within a week of each other).
Both servers are imbalanced and underpopulated.

I know there's the Wrath Gate cinematic and so on, have you come across or know any other cinematic events like this, or was this the only one? I'm sure there has to be in game scripted events. Thanks :)

Are they planning to put in recipes for green items between 350-375 to make it easier to grind up professions? Or should i just suck it up and make (obsolete) blue/purple items to level up.
Ian R. Oct 23rd 2008 12:03PM
From what I've seen, there are recipes starting at 350 that require Northrend mats
Steve Oct 23rd 2008 1:00PM
It's actually 360. If you look at wowhead, they already have the recipes listed.
sephirah Oct 23rd 2008 11:23AM
I wonder why people still ask if you need "old stuff" for the xpac.
Sha'tar rep for alchemy, Primals for level 80 crafted items and so on...
C'mon guys, did you need Argent Dawn rep in TBC? Did you use Essences to craft outland stuff?
Blackhorn Oct 23rd 2008 12:23PM
Lotta folks didn't start until TBC. Not everyone has the "Tabard of the Protector" achievement :D
Jason Oct 23rd 2008 11:36AM
Will you be able to explore all of Northrend without a flying mount? I'm keen on getting "The Explorer" title, but I'm wondering if I'll need to wait until 78 for it.
What level will my lowbie alts need to be to maximize their professions?
Ves Oct 23rd 2008 11:51AM
Anyone without a flying mount will be given a free flying mount in Storm Peaks, but the mount will have no speed increase.
turtlehead Oct 23rd 2008 12:17PM
"I'm keen on getting "The Explorer" title, but I'm wondering if I'll need to wait until 78 for it."
You will.
Angus Oct 23rd 2008 11:34AM
Are there rep turn ins for some of the factions?
I know it became a pretty smart thing to do with my alt to have a few hundred unidentified plant parts that I turned in before I ever did a real quest for CE rep. The end result was me being almost revered once I finished Zanger and I have almost hit exalted without doing the Blade's Edge stuff. I did similar with Consortium, though they are a pain regardless.
Getting those figured out might slow leveling a little, but the end result will be a lot better for getting those exalted faction rewards the moment you can.
