Ezra Chatterton passes away
You may remember the story of Ezra Chatterton. He and his father played together in Azeroth, using the World of Warcraft to spend quality time with one another. Ezra had a brain tumor. Thanks to help from the Make-A-Wish foundation and Blizzard, Ezra was able to live out some of his dream of being a game developer. You can see his influence in the Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix, which is finely crafted to ePhoenix's specification. Ezra was the rider for the first phoenix mount in game. But, only a few months ago, we heard the frightening news that Ezra had suffered a stroke.
Reader Sedna directed us to Ezra's web site for the saddening news. Ezra passed away on Monday, October 20th, at 10PM pacific time. We at WoW Insider would like to offer our sympathies to Ezra's family. Both they and Ezra are in our thoughts. His story was an inspiring one, and we will not forget ePhoenix.
(Edit: We are turning off comments for the evening. We thank everyone for their positive thoughts, and are happy to see so many warm feelings from the community for someone who deserves them.)Filed under: Fan stuff, News items

He was something special, Barnister.
So is each of those children in Africa that you mention.
As is every child...

Rest well. You brightened a lot of lives, little guy. Strength and Honor.
(thanks for modding this thread, BTW.)

Always thought it was cool the way Blizz made something special for this deserving kid.
God bless him and condolances to his family.
Hofnar Oct 23rd 2008 5:19PM
Everyone please, if you can spare a buck or two, donate to your favorite cancer fund. With enough of us contributing, kids like Ezra would have a better chance of making it.

I made a visit to the shrine of the fallen warrior for you today. RIP Ezra.

RIP Buddy
Was he the kid that got the first Phoenix Mount?

Read the post you replied to, please. But yes, hasty replier, Ezra was the first.

Rest in peace.

I'm sorry to hear that - rest in peace, Ezra.
Boydboyd Oct 23rd 2008 5:10PM
Aye, from my WoW family to Ezra's, we are always deeply saddened to hear when one of our friends passes away. We didn't know Ezra personally, but we still hurt for your loss.

Rest In Piece. Thanks for being inspiring. Blood and Thunder.

Rest in peace buddy. You fought a courageous battle. God will indefinitely seat you in his right hand.
Nativebrown Oct 23rd 2008 5:11PM
I'm sorry to hear this. I smile everytime I pass the Ahab Wheathoof looking for his lost dog Kyle.
That quest was implemented well after I'd moved on from Mulgore but I made it a point to return and do the quest for Ezra.
I wish his family and friends all the support and kindness they need while they cope with their loss.
Regards.

They should modify the Ahab/Kyle quest somehow... Or at least add a tombstone/monument to the graveyard nearest Bloodhoof Village.
To the cynical responders, yes, he does deserve this. Through Make-a-Wish, Ezra got to design a quest (which he actually provides voiceover for) and a fairly desirable weapon. Ezra's already had a significant impact on the game and deserves a fitting memorial.
Pigwar Oct 23rd 2008 5:21PM
Isn't it also him doing the voice for that Tuaren in the starer zone asking "Have you seen my dog?"
I may be getting confused with someone else though.

My heart sank when I saw this post. It's heartbreaking to hear of anyone passing away, and even more so when it's a young child. My prayers and well wishes go out to his parents and family for their loss.

I hope Heaven (or such) has WoW.
Rest in peace, we will always remember you kiddo.
Zuldim Oct 23rd 2008 5:12PM
I don't really know what to say.
This is very sad. I really hoped he would be alright.
I..
I hope he knew he brought a little joy to many of our lives. May he rest in peace.
(I'm with SaintStryfe, thank you for modding this thread to keep the zombie jokes out.)

Strength and honor indeed. I have to believe there's a real bird of fire waiting you on the other side.
Ride hard.
Tumleren Oct 23rd 2008 5:13PM
Wow, sad.
After reading the story about him about a year ago, I went to Mulgore with my troll just to complete that quest.
It was fun.
What a shame.
