Ezra Chatterton passes away
You may remember the story of Ezra Chatterton. He and his father played together in Azeroth, using the World of Warcraft to spend quality time with one another. Ezra had a brain tumor. Thanks to help from the Make-A-Wish foundation and Blizzard, Ezra was able to live out some of his dream of being a game developer. You can see his influence in the Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix, which is finely crafted to ePhoenix's specification. Ezra was the rider for the first phoenix mount in game. But, only a few months ago, we heard the frightening news that Ezra had suffered a stroke.
Reader Sedna directed us to Ezra's web site for the saddening news. Ezra passed away on Monday, October 20th, at 10PM pacific time. We at WoW Insider would like to offer our sympathies to Ezra's family. Both they and Ezra are in our thoughts. His story was an inspiring one, and we will not forget ePhoenix.
(Edit: We are turning off comments for the evening. We thank everyone for their positive thoughts, and are happy to see so many warm feelings from the community for someone who deserves them.)Filed under: Fan stuff, News items

Ezra and his story has touched over 10,000,000 people weather they know it or not. My thoughts go out to his family, you raised a great kid. He might not be able to design games in this life but he can now help guide those who do. Wow will be forever changed because of Ezra. /salute

Kudos to the kid for reaching his dream. Some of us spend decade upon decade trying to do as much. Way to go, kid, you're an inspiration to us all.
And the note about "heavy moderation"...man all you did was tempt me to push buttons. And I've got about a dozen that spring to mind. We can be respectful without you having to hold our hand, thanks.

Poor kid. I always liked the "can you help you find me my dog" quest. Rest in peace.

Ezra's email was openly posted on his website (as is mine if you just click on my name), so I think this is appropriate.

Hello Bennett,
It is good to know that people still are supportive of me. Thank you. What color is your corgi?
Are you a dealer of marmots? Any other small rodents?
Sincerely,
Ezra

Hi Ezra,
I’m sure you have received a ton of email, but I would just like to send my support. You’ve touched the lives of literally hundreds of thousands of people through world of warcraft and we’re all here for you.
Oh, I too, have a corgi! I hope he doesn’t eat too much or hate the vacuum cleaner!

I am wiping away tears as I write this, my husband told me all about Ezra and the things WoW worked out to make this little one's life a little brighter. He seemed to have much more of an impact on the world than he will ever know. May God comfort his family during this time of grief, and may they always know that even for someone like me who never had the privilege of meeting him I am deeply touched. God Bless.

The Kender Mourning Song
Always before, the Spring returned.
The bright world in its cycle spun
In the air and flowers, frass and fern,
Assured and cradled by the sun.
Always before, you could explain
The turning darkness of the earth,
And how that dark embraced the rain,
And gave the ferns and flowers birth.
Already I forget those things,
And how a vein of gold survives
The mining of a thousand springs,
The season of a thousand lives.
Now winter is my memory,
Now autumn, now summer light -
So every spring from now will be
Another season into the night.
RIP Ezra :(

I lost my 11 year old sister to lieukemia in 1988. Make-A-Wish was unable to fulfill her wish before her death. I am glad that Ezra was lucky enough to see his wish fulfilled before he died. I know times are rough, but if you have a few extra dollars, send something to Make-A-Wish.
To the family and friends: My thoughts and prayers are with you. This is a very hard time for you, but I am sure that Ezra's angel light will be with you through the long darkness ahead.
