Ezra Chatterton passes away
You may remember the story of Ezra Chatterton. He and his father played together in Azeroth, using the World of Warcraft to spend quality time with one another. Ezra had a brain tumor. Thanks to help from the Make-A-Wish foundation and Blizzard, Ezra was able to live out some of his dream of being a game developer. You can see his influence in the Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix, which is finely crafted to ePhoenix's specification. Ezra was the rider for the first phoenix mount in game. But, only a few months ago, we heard the frightening news that Ezra had suffered a stroke.
Reader Sedna directed us to Ezra's web site for the saddening news. Ezra passed away on Monday, October 20th, at 10PM pacific time. We at WoW Insider would like to offer our sympathies to Ezra's family. Both they and Ezra are in our thoughts. His story was an inspiring one, and we will not forget ePhoenix.

This explains that bright star I saw tonight.
Rest in Peace, Ezra. While your life was short, you impacted the lives of millions through your quest, bow, interactions while playing, and, most importantly, your story.
We're all Horde tonight.

"I need you near, but love and duty called you someplace higher.
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire.
May your strength give us strength,
May your faith give us faith,
May your hope give us hope,
May your love give us love."
I'll be sitting with Ahab Wheathoof tonight after my raid, fishing and looking at the stars. You left too soon, buddy.

He is now in a better place.
Rest in peace Ezra =)
By the way... thank you to Blizzard and Make a Wish for making his life special =)

My thoughts go out to Ezra's family & friends. His level of perseverance in his situation was an inspiration to us all, and I pray he rests in peace. I'm sure that up in heaven he's doling out 20k damage Aimed Shot crits by the dozen.
Whenever I gaze upon the Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix sitting in my bank, even long after I hit level 80, I will always think of the little guy, and what he gave our community.

Truly a sad day.
I will make sure to do his quest on all of my horde toons from now on.
Rest well, Ezra.

You were a credit to Hunters. I'm very sorry to hear this news.
Maliyah Oct 23rd 2008 8:33PM
I just completed Ezra's quest on my hunter...I would love to pick up the Crossbow as well...it would get a lot of love.
I'm so sad to hear about his passing--my husband and I were just talking about him at BlizzCon. Ahab Wheathoof has an honor guard from my hunter tonight.
Godspeed little guy--I'm proud to be a Horde hunter this evening.

I am so sorry to hear this. I, too, struggled with my health as a youngster. Fortunately, I survived and became a healthy grown-up. Ezra never will.
Though you were a Tauren, the Orcs will sing a lok'vadnod for you tonight.
Strength and honor.

Man, this really makes me sad. I was encouraged to hear that Ezra was doing better, so to hear he has passed is very disheartening. Blessings on you and your family, Ezra. You'll be missed and remembered forever.
