Sam Raimi thinks a Warcraft movie has potential
The hottest topic that didn't get discussed at BlizzCon this year was the WoW movie -- last year, we had a whole panel dedicated to how it was going, but this year, all we got was a vague mention that it's still being worked on. Still, the biggest question that hangs in the air is just who might direct it, and we've got our first rumor: Sam Raimi, he of Spiderman and The Evil Dead series. He's not exactly hired yet, but he is quoted by MTV Movies as being interested in the Warcraft story and universe. He's got my greenlight -- I don't know how good a movie it would be (Spiderman 3 is proof that Raimi, quirky as he is, can go off the rails at times), but any movie with Bruce Campbell in it works for me. And you know we'd get at least a cameo if Raimi took the helm. But at the very least, it sounds like Raimi has the right ideas to get a Warcraft movie together: "It has such great, adventurous characters in it," he says, "and such fantastic landscapes and rules."
If you're going to start looking for directors, you could definitely do a lot worse. At least we know Uwe Boll will never direct it.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

As much as I enjoy Bruce cameos, please no.

@complaints of Bruce cameos--You're kidding, right?
Bruce would be killer as the Defias Traitor.

^I'm not complaining about Bruce.

Zombie event + Sam Raimi = GOLD!
Seriously, all he needs to do is set up video capture on a few dozen servers, and he's got his movie right there!
It'll be cheap AND profitable!
BRAINS! MORE BRAINS!

I was half expecting some great movie news at Blizzcon. At this point, even if a director was announced tomorrow, the movie wouldn't hit theaters before summer 2010.

Anyone else think Bruce Campbell could play Varian Wrynn? When I first saw the chin on the in-game model, Bruce was the first person that came to my mind.
Glamdr1ng Oct 23rd 2008 1:46PM
Yes, please! We need more chin.

I am in no hurry to see a Warcraft movie take shape. All they are ever gonna do is "Eragon" the lore to death, put some white male with pecs to trounce rubber taurens and orcs. The fans deserve better than this. Why they cannot get the production studio that does the game cinematics to just do a two-hour fly-through-- I would pay anything to see that.

Given Blizzard's high standard of quality I see the Warcraft movie being more of a gritty LOTR than a crappy Eragon type affair. Lets just say if the movie comes out and it does suck I'll be very surprised.

I could see them going the silly route. WoW is a jokefest. What if they put the Oprah Windfury and Harris Pilton in there? I would love if it were a grittier movie, but we may have to wait for a Warhammer movie to see that.

"It has such great, adventurous characters in it," he says, "and such fantastic landscapes and rules."
Well said, that's exactly what I would say if to describe why I fancy Warcraft.
Not much progress on this movie yet then? That would explain the lack of info on it. Have to say a Warcraft movie would be epic, I'm just curious if it would have actors or entirely animated?
Elementalist Oct 23rd 2008 1:26PM
If they'll make a wow movie it should be like 4 hours .
Or divided into 3 parts like ,,Lord of the Rings" , presuming that they will include very much lore

Bruce Campbell as Leroy Jenkins, cocky alliance lieutenant or something. Seems fitting for a small scene where he gets whupped by overwhelming odds in melee.
DougE Oct 23rd 2008 1:30PM
Sorry, there's only one Warcraft role for Bruce Campbell and that's "The King of Cheese"!

Weekend at Mankrik's (2010)
- The worlds greatest party is about to be held at Mankrik's house, but his wife's deceased which threatens to cancel the whole affair. In this wacky comedy 3 gnomes try to convince Mankrik she's still alive with hilarious consequences.

Maybe they would do something similar to 300 or Beowulf with lots of green screen stuff so you could make the actors look like whatever you wanted them to look like. Could be a lot of fun that way.
But what story would they do? I'm kind of want to do one that follows Jaina's story since you don't get to see too many epic fantasy stories with women as the main character and

I think it would make a great storyline.

I'm going to do a world exclusive on what the Warcraft movie will be about. Here it is:
It's about two gnomes who find a bracelet of power, and they have to take it to the Burning Steppes and cast it into the Cauldron. They form the Brotherhood of the Bracelet. Along the way they're trailed by a murloc named Gottom, who's obsessed with the bracelet, and nine bracelet bogeymen. It could be a three-parter, called 'Ruler of the Bracelet'. The first part would be called 'The Brotherhood of the Bracelet', followed by 'A Couple of Towers', with the climactic ending called 'Hey, the King's Back!'.
Do you like it?

The Jinx website mentions seeing Sam Raimi and his son at their booth during their blizzcon recap. Maybe not so random?
