Zombie Fighting 101

Move faster
The good news is that Azerothian zombies, just like in most movies, move slow. Just be sure to stay farther than 21 yards away from them as they have Retch! a ranged spell that will slow anyone within the area of effect. This is the smoky green cloud on the ground you see in all those screenshots. They can also summon a burst of speed using Lurch! so don't be too confident that they won't close the distance. That ability also frees them from movement impairing effects so trapping them or slowing them isn't a guarantee you'll be able to stay away from them. The idea is to kite the zombies, because getting into melee range with them is a very bad idea.
Keep your distance
A zombie's staple attack is Mangle!, not to be confused with the exclamation point-less Druid spell of the same name. The attack itself isn't anything you should worry about, it's the risk of infection as every melee attack has a chance of infecting you with the plague. As a melee class, you're better off using your ranged weapon to strike them from afar. Otherwise, you should have a pocket healer that can remove the disease from you. Although reports have been pouring in that the disease is becoming harder and harder to cure...
Murder by numbers
If you watch a lot of horror movies, you probably already know that it's unwise to take on a lot of zombies on your own. Most of their abilities confer their effects to other zombies, so they are much more powerful with company. Smart groups of zombies will take turns using their cooldowns in order to get the best effect. This means that a party of zombies can pretty much keep most of their buffs up indefinitely with ordered usage. Even if you get help from city guards, these NPCs will get infected and turn. In fact, the more zombies there are, the faster they -- and you -- will convert because zombie auto-hits shave ten seconds off the disease's duration. This means six hits will shave one minute off, and a lot of hits from a lot of zombies can mean a very grim end.
Stay clean
Make sure to keep on curing the disease if you have the ability to do so. Even though 10 minutes seems like a long time, the melee hits I mentioned earlier quickly cuts that time down and you can suddenly turn into a zombie before you're aware of it. You can also always retreat to an Argent Healer, who will cure your affliction within close proximity. Also be aware that using immunity mechanics such as Divine Shield or Ice Block while infected will transform you into a zombie immediately, rather than removing the disease from you.
You're fighting Undead
Remember that zombies are classified as Undead, which means abilities such as Holy Wrath, Turn Evil, Shackle Undead, and Exorcism all work on them. This is a great opportunity for Paladins and Priests to use abilities normally reserved for NPCs on fellow players. Holy Wrath also works as an AoE stun, so it's a good ability to use in the midst of the zombie masses.
Mercy killing
Remember that zombies can be of any level -- from lowbie players giving townsfolk a scare to Level 70s wreaking havoc in major cities. Don't hesitate to strike down low-level zombies. They have exactly the same abilities as the high level ones, so they're just as dangerous except that they are easier to kill because they have less life. If that weapon swapping bug is fixed, low level zombies should go down fairly quickly. If you kill them, they will return uninfected and hopefully stay that way.

FTA ~ "How has your crusade against Arthas' minions been coming along?"
I took over Ratchet Last night single handed. Then I joined a few other Hordies and we mangled the Crossroads in a style that made the typical Ally raids look like childs play.
This event is FUN... like really fun.

For all you Girly-Men or Girly, uhh, Girlies out there:
It's fun.
It's different.
It's once per year.
It's overwhelmingly popular.
Whiners about this event are greatly outnumbered.
There are plenty of desolate areas to level up your first toon or new alt. Allow the rest of us to enjoy this truly outstanding and innovative event!
Personally I hunt down whiners, I find their brains particularly moist and succulent. Muahahah ~ BrrRRrrRAaInnsssSSss

Hmm, try this in reverse. I hunt down on the griefers and find their tears as I kill and cleanse them to be the most satisifying. ^_^

This is a fantastic world event and I advocate more such things in the game. HOWEVER, I really believe that it was bad timing. Hallow's End is my favorite seasonal and this is really interfering. I would have suggested that it begin Halloween Night and run the two weeks from Oct. 31st 'til WotLK. I love delicious, delicious brains just as much as the next guy during a Zombie Apocolypse, but not until after I get the Sinister Squashling and associated title.

So, you get greifed. It sucks, I know. Its happened to me too. I've had whole towns emptied of NPC's while a Hordie Raid was going through. Please keep in the spirit of the event though. It has RP reasons, for you RPers out there. It has PVP Reasons, for you PVPers out there.
I believe that this is a once in a lifetime event, much like the opening of An'Quiraj. So, please enjoy this event. I doubt it will ever come again.
(also, I plan on reducing my friends and allies in Darnassus to meaty, meaty zombie allies. Though I never do well as a zombie. Or a Pvper. Makes me wish I could cure diseases as a Druid though. To try both sides of the event.) Life Bloom doesn't work on Zombies! :P

This Zombie thing really sucks. Is this a perm thing or will it go away once the Lych King comes out?

Okay, maybe everyone is excited about this invasion but I dont get it. It would be fun if either you had some achievements you get from killing zombies/ cleansing disease etc. Or at the very least you lost control of your character when you're zombified.
Having the ability to actually play as a zombie really sucks and there is a reason why I went on a PvE server not a PvP server. People really abuse this just to cause havoc and ruin it for everyone else. I had to wait for 10 minutes yesterday just to hand in a daily cooking quest because the guy was zombified. Or even worse: getting zombified right before getting on a long flight. If you want realism then I should be able to cleanse myself in midflight, otherwise they should have the infection cured when you get on the flight master. If they wanted a PvP event then they should have made the NPCs immune. Now its just a stupid mix.
This event (and I mean the whole infection thing only, not all the stuff going on in EPL, Kara etc) is only fun if
a) you are done all TBC content, you have tons of moutns/ gold etc and youre bored
b) you dont care for progression achievements etc you just like the PvP aspect of the game (like corpse camping) and like to just be a pain in the a** for everyone else (and youre probably 12)
c)Dont like a challenge so you just do the easiest thing you can
Remember there is actual fun things to do during the invasion which give you rewards, rep etc. Dont ruin it for the others that dont even want to participate in the whole thing and just want to get on with their own goals.
