Phat Loot Phriday: Goblin Rocket Launcher

Name: Goblin Rocket Launcher (Wowhead, Thottbot, Crafter's Tome)
Type: Rare Engineering Trinket
Damage/Speed: N/A
Abilities:
- +45 Stamina, which marks this thing as a PvP trinket, basically.
- On use: Fires a powerful rocket at the enemy that does 906 to 1440 damage and stuns them for 3 seconds. Which is as awesome as it sounds -- the rocket blasts out of the gun, flies with a firey trail towards the target and then boom. It can also crit, and we're told it's affected by haste and crit, so the better your specs, the better it'll do.
- There's a big five second cast, however, so it's better to use this either when enemies are just coming into range, or when they're leaving it. It does also generate threat, so theoretically it could be used as a pulling tool. The two-minute cooldown would make that hard to do often (not to mention that anyone tanking endgame probably wouldn't want to waste a trinket slot with this), but if you want to pull with flash, there you go.
- There is one drawback -- firing it will do a quick knockdown on you, so you'll need a second or two to get up. Hitting this thing under pressure is a bad idea. But if you've got one more enemy to tag and aren't getting hit yourself, it's a very nice ranged attack.
- It's a fun little toy, too. There's no limit on how many time you fire it (just the cooldown), so you can hit it every two minutes for some extra ranged damage.
But get it all together, make the Rocket Launcher, and start shooting, Tex.
Getting Rid of It: This is pretty much an item you keep, even if just for kicks. Vendors will only give you 2g 25s for it. It is BoE, so you can try to sell it on the AH, but considering the grocery list of mats you'll need to buy or otherwise find, and the high requirements to actually use the thing, it's very, very unlikely you'll find a market willing to pay what it's worth. Sell Mechanical Squirrels instead.

The Knockdown can actually be avoided by Paladin's Divine Shield. I don't know what else can cancle the knockback effect, I know divine protection can't.

Pfft. Goblins don't know balls about true engineering.
"Make the bombs bigger" isn't engineering.
Gnomish all the way, baby.

PVP? You're kidding right? I use this in PvE all the time. The bonus Stamina means I don't need to focus on Stamina as much with gems and enchants, and the rocket launcher, besides the fun factor, works great in the outdoor world when I want to pull something from 45 yards away. It's fun watching rogues squirm because a Ret Paladin pulled the daily quest mob they were thinking about attacking before they started running towards it. =D

The rocket launcher was also used to great effect in Tosan 3

I had a tank friend that used this all the time - its quite awesome. I kinda want to make this on my recently leveled engineer - but 70 primal fires - omg!

Not 70 primal fires, 70 MOTES of fire.

Not 70 primals. 70 motes, which is 7 primals.
Also, agreed, great starter tank trinket.

Cool glitch: In Booty Bay/Ratchet, where you can find lowbies of the opposite faction, if you use it at long range and get kill, you may not get aggro. Make sure you can 1-shot (either by their low HP pool, or they're already hurt).

GREAT Tank trinket!

"we're told it's affected by haste and crit, so the better your specs, the better it'll do."
How would haste affect this item? Lower the cast time? Or were you talking about attack power?

For a particularly unscrupulous rogue, this is the perfect tool of harassment. Here's the scenario.
The Crossroads, preferably o a PvE or RP server. Peaceful, idyllic, unmolested. Suddenly, "The Crossroads is under attack!" spams across the chat box of every Horde currently in or passing through the area. They rush to the scene, where a rogue wearing a tuxedo and fancy hat is calmly having a fistfight with a guard. Easy pickings! They charge in, looking forward to a quick and easy HK, when he vanishes. Curses! They start running around, hoping to catch the snappily-dressed, if under-armored, fool, when a trail of fire comes streaking out of the bushes. A trap! They rush to the area, but it's too late... he's moved on. They hurriedly come the area, when another rocket, grinning ferociously, pummels them from halfway up the tower . They rush to the area once more, but their assailant has already moved on, laughing to himself.
Is it fair? Of course not. But when have rogues been fair? It's sneaky, it's unassuming, it requires careful placement to get those five seconds of unmolested cast time and enough range to get up before they come for you, and it leaves all the low-levels (except those stupid enough to try to take you on, of course) unmolested.
And if some level 20 mage does try to pop you out of stealth, it's a guaranteed instant kill, and there's nothing they can do to protect the fool, either.
Good times.

I use mine in with my Arena team all the time. We'd often hold off killing the last oponnent so I could get a "Bubble Rocket Kill" off of it. Bubble, Shoot, and end the match.
Great fun.
The stun associated with the rocket also counts as an interrupt. The long cast can cause issues with that, but I've had it work many times to hit a mob that was about to cast or whatnot.
My friends always laugh when they see me pull it out.

...two Arcane Crystals (which means two Arcanite Transmutes)...
Krhmm... You need Arcane Crystals to make Arcanite Bars, not the other way around ^^
Anyway, sounds like a cool trinket, if I ever get my rogue up to level xP

these are great for tanks. Before i got better trinkets, i stacked two of these. +90 stam is nice to have when your just starting. also these are great for pulls. you can stun an uncontrolled mob while you get the others under control. the range is long enough that the knockback is done well before they reach you.
for pvp these rock as well. that druid on low health that thinks they are going to sprint away? muhahahahah!

simple things make the game more fun :)

I'd comment that druids especially stack a ton of Stamina we're loving these things for entry tanking.

Great PVE single mob pulling tool for tankadins.

The comment about PVP use is dumb.
Seriously.
I supposed the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34473 is a PVP trinket too, huh?
I guess we should let a mage take that over a tank?
(look through the archives to find out just how dumb it is to think so)
The rocket launcher is a stamina trinket you get until you can grab something better. It does VERY well in allowing you to survive earlier.
My tankadin has not gotten rid of this. Until I find something that can manage to give as much effective life, this will remain equipped.
As for PVP, nothing is funnier than hitting a runner with this.

As a Ret Pally I have always been engineering for items like this and grenades. I can stunlock. Hammer of Justics/rocket launcher/repentance/grenade. That is about 18 seconds and throw in a couple of judments of command and you have done about 5-6k damage while they are stunlocked. You just have to start firing this thing right after your HOJ or repent.

I use this to pull my trap targets in kara all the time. It generates enough threat that the mob will never go for the healer.
