Prince Menethil's steed and the empty grave

The chaos of the plague has most everyone's attention right now, but the world event potentially brought something a little less easily noticed as well. Just off the road to the Scarlet Monastery, there's an old grave that appears to have recently been dug up. As far as I can tell, it has appeared on servers on either the 19th or 20th or October. It's possible it went in with patch 3.0.2, but if that's the case then nobody noticed it until a couple of days ago. I find that unlikely. Either way, if it did crop up on the 20th, that means it predates the plague by a few days, and may have actually been the kickoff of the whole thing.
So what is this grave? According to the gravestone, Prince Arthas Menethil's steed was buried here. The horse, named Invincible (which was apparently a lie), seems to have been dug up recently. By the Scourge, or by someone else? Probably the Scourge, but anything can happen. It's fantasy after all. Drunken Dwarves might have dug it up on accident thinking it was the skeletal remains of a Titan or some nonsense.
I look forward to seeing what comes out of this, because the words on the gravestone don't give much away. It's very short and sweet, telling you what's there and little more. I guess that makes sense, It's a gravestone/memorial and I doubt the Scourge would spraypaint "ARTHUS WUZ HERR" across the stone. If you want to see what's engraved upon it, just take a look behind the link below.

So Arthas came to get his horse back ... apparantly there's still something human left in him, even when in symbiose with the LichKing
Gordal Oct 24th 2008 9:45AM
No, he was just 49/50 for Leading the Cavalry and couldn't get one more mount.

And the plot thickens

Indeed it does.. very cool.

Sounds to me like the culmination of this event will be Arthas arriving in person, and whatever group manages to push him back to Northrend will be awarded his steed. Like the mount from the AQ gate event.

This would freaking rule.

I don't know. Blizzard has shied away from such 'exclusive' content for world events, as you can see in the Sunwell dailies, where everyone has a chance to get a title and a tabard.
I do expect we get some kind of reward from all this, just to show 'we were there' when WotLK was launched.

From what I've heard Arthras will decimate SW and Org (well I've only heard org, but if he destroys org he'll have to destroy sw) and that'll make the Alliance and Horde decide to go to Northrend to end his threat once and for all.
So I'm guessing the culmination of this event will be him marching on those cities with a bunch of undead. It's cool that his horse is myteriously missing tho, I love how blizz thinks of everything.

On a related note, how long has that raised area just outside Orgrimmar been there? I only noticed it a couple of days ago, and I swear it wasn't there when 3.0.2 went live.

I think the event is making us all find things that we think might be new. Somehow, for two years, I managed to never see the statue in SM Graveyard's courtyard area, right where you fought the Horseman.
Hell, I've fought the Horseman every day this week. I never saw it.
Blackhorn Oct 24th 2008 9:35AM
That raised area has been there since 3.0.2 on live realms. I noticed it in the beta.
Victus Oct 24th 2008 8:41AM
future drop from Arthas your friendly raid boss: Invincible < this is a very fast mount , bla bla bla >
ROB13 Oct 24th 2008 8:46AM
If Arthas wants his steed, then why did they leave it's saddle on the fence? I'm pretty sure the Lich King won't like getting saddle burns and what not
Docseuzz Oct 24th 2008 8:47AM
well... this grave is significantly less impressive than the crater created in the wrath cinematic...
Mitawa Oct 24th 2008 11:49AM
That...was a crater for a dragon.
Dragons are bigger than horses.

Interesting.
See, what I do each evening is run around and check on the status of zombie invasions and keep an eye out for changes with my hunter. Yes, I fight zombies even on my hunter, it isn't limited to paladins and priests.
Last night, on Silver Hand, I was surprised to find an acute lack of zombies. I saw maybe two in Shattrath and evidence of attempted griefing of flight masters and auctioneers elsewhere. I didn't see much in the way of any zombie combat.
I noted the new plague bugs early on. I cured whomever I came across. It didn't actually seem any easier or harder than the day before.
I noted the addition of more boxes now in Stormwind.
I didn't, however, see this grave.
I look forward to investigating more this weekend while I have time. I'm only sad by the fact that when this all begins to come to a climax I'll have been sent out of state by my job. I may miss what is probably going to be a very fun event.
