Zombie incubation time halved to five minutes

Well well well. Don't have a full ten minutes to turn yourself into the Undead? As a few tipsters have noticed, the incubation time for the plague has dropped in half to just five minutes -- click a crate (of which there are suddenly plenty around, whoever put those out there) or kill a roach, and five minutes later you're a member of the walking undead.
I thought it was going to take a while for this whole thing to play out, but things seem to be moving pretty quickly. Blizzard likes to drop new patches and holidays, it seems, on Friday night/Saturday morning (so weekend players can experience them), so keep your eyes open in Azeroth this evening -- we might finally find out just what this zombie business is all about.

Things could prove to be very interesting if the incubation time keeps dropping.
Alyz Oct 24th 2008 3:27PM
Us priests must move more quickly now.
Dunwich Oct 24th 2008 3:29PM
I'd best stock up on shotgun shells and canned foods, then.

More motivation to stay out of major cities.
I stopped an outbreak in Auberdine last night by curing like 20 people... but I have to cast Cleanse 5-10 times to cure a person sometimes... WTF. They can't come up with anything more creative than simply making the debuff not respond to normal game mechanics? Lame!
I thought this was really cool when it first started, but the more they seem to be ramming it down people's throats with a size-15 boot, the less cool it is.
Infecting/killing/greifing lowbies is bad enough, but come on... this is getting seriously stupid. Its sad, because I wanted to enjoy this event. Hell, I DID enjoy it for a while.
They're just making it really hard :-\
Netherscourge Oct 24th 2008 3:34PM
Yea - like they are holding a gun to your head to cleanse everything...
It's just a goof for fun - you are not getting a reward for cleansing anyone.
Dotixi Oct 24th 2008 3:36PM
It's a plague not just a normal disease of course it should be more difficult to dispel. You should probably just let world event unfold more before getting too upset by it. Plus, anyone who gets the plague can have it removed by an Argent Healer. You don't need to run around and remove it...hell, most people don't want it removed so you should probably just stop trying.

Game mechanics are acting exactly as they are supposed to. Try equipping some gear with more hit rating; some folks have claimed to have had some success with that.
If it's a plague that's slowly growing in strength, it will obviously take us more tries to remove the disease if the level of it keeps going up.
sephirah Oct 24th 2008 4:29PM
MDC, do you know that if you succeed in stopping the plague Blizzard will cancel WotLK, don't you?
MDC Oct 24th 2008 5:10PM
@sephirah
You, as most other people, are missing the point.
We each participate as we see fit.
As a paladin, its my role (spoiler: WoW is still a role-playing game after all) to try and cure people and fight the undead. That's kind of the gimmick. I'm not being a wet blanket at all. I think its a great idea for a server event.
My complaint was that the event is skewed. Its infinitely more difficult to be on the site combating the undead. The point is that its imbalanced; if the disease becomes uncurable, then what fun is that? What this is is a server event literally hijacking your playing experience. Fun or not, freedom of being able to quest/etc. as I desire beats being subjugated by a server event.
If I get zombified, Light forbid, I will dutifully fill my role as plague-spreader and corpse-muncher.
Until then, I'll keep fighting the uphill battle.

If you're going the RP route, you seem to have forgotten that zombie infestations and plagues are *not* actually supposed to be a happy fun time for those not infected. You are supposed to be terrified, panicked, and, yes, at the very least, inconvenienced. It wouldn't exactly be a zombie invasion if those things didn't occur. It would be a Weekly World News headline that you could ignore while browsing the auction house's upcoming sales.

@MDC
You say "if the disease becomes uncurable, then what fun is that?"
I'll just say, wait and find out! Don't pass judgement on the lore of the event at the very beginning. I think we will be pleasantly surprised!
jurandr Oct 24th 2008 3:32PM
So... what's your zombie plan? Surely I'm not the only one who watches redvsblue...
Netherscourge Oct 24th 2008 3:33PM
Time to take preventative action.
Round up all the non-infected, pile them into Ironforge, close up all the windows and gates - board them up and chain them down.
Get the Hunters and Mages up on the catwalks and get ready to repel the zombie hordes!
AIM FOR THE HEAD!
