Paladins nerfed on the beta

Most of the changes are centering around the Retribution tree. Some are pretty crazy, like Seal of Corruption dealing holy damage, and Divine Storm dealing physical damage. There is no indication if these changes will make it into patch 3.0.3 or arrive in a later update.
There's a couple of other changes that stick out for me.
- Seal of Command lost about 20% of it's overall damage
- Most other seals were reduced by around 13% to 21%
- Judgement of the Wise grants 15% of base mana instead of 33%
- Most other judgement effects are reduced by about 15%
- Art of War was retooled to increase damage of Judgement, Crusader Strike, and Divine Storm instead of increasing critical strike damage
And finally, Blessing of Might now increases AP by 306. It used to be 305. So it's not a total nerf...

Damn, I knew the nerfs were incoming but I was hoping JotW was the one thing they'd leave alone...instead it got nerfed by more than half. I agree that the infinite mana was kind of ridiculous but to reduce the return by more than half is gonna sting...

Now you know what shadow priests felt when Blizzard ruined vampiric touch.

Oh no! An increase of 1 attack power on BoM?! What a buff, that needs to be nerfed this second!
okay, sarcasm aside, this sucks, royally.
JotW didn't need to be nerfed, short run yeah we are pretty good on mana, but longer fights wittles it down, specially in a raid where I'm helping with raiding healing a little with my insta-FoLs.
Looks like I'm going to be forced out of using SoC now that they nerfed it, great.
God, I dont see how all the seals needed to be nerfed either, or judgements for that matter.
God, they might as well make crusader strike a baseline ability, it lost it's perk a while ago, and isn't worth a 41 pt talent, how about that for a talent change?

I run around in greens and blues and a few epics, and I am able to keep on attacking endlessly. Literally. I tried a couple of times, on test dummies and other stuff. I left a 10 minute fight on 1400 dps and 95% mana.
95 %.
That is overpowered. I can keep DPSing no matter what. I shouldn't be able to do that.
I'm glad that we are being balanced, although of course a little part of me wanted it to stay this way.
I doubt the Replenishment nerf is going to have a huge impact, since everybody will be using Seal of Bloos/Martyr and get mana from Spiritual Attunement anyways.

You mean like every other melee class is able to do?
Rage, energy, and runic power are effectively unlimited supply. The only exception is shamans, who get shamanistic rage to replenish mana. Melee classes are SUPPOSED to be able to spam abilities on every cooldown. It's choosing the ability to hit that determines DPS, not choosing whether or not to hit ANY ability in order to conserve mana.

Ret pallies still get plenty of mana with JotW, Seal/Judgement of Wisdom, Spiritual Attunement, natural mana regen, and any sort of raid buff (which non-mana users can't use).
They can still heal themselves and others and do a ton of various stuff with mana that other melee classes cannot do. Perhaps except shamans, though their mana regen is still better than that of enhancement shamans.

Hey, I don't mind as long as Prot stays where it is! ^_^b
Heleth Oct 25th 2008 1:14PM
sorry buddy, its nerfed.
Manatank Oct 25th 2008 2:01PM
Yeah, I was hoping they would find an intelligent way to nerf ret without hurting the other specs, but they decided to nerf our seals... AGAIN. I'm really starting to hate ret being the basis for the direction of the paladin class. It isn't the end of the world, but seals are getting close to worthless.
Spoonman Oct 25th 2008 2:14PM
Too bad for Holy, they were already falling behind on the solo dps. One of the Devs even said something to that effect on beta forums b4 this nerf
Heleth Oct 25th 2008 1:13PM
I'm just sad that they felt like they needed to nerf prot and holy damage along with ret. Even though they claimed that Holy's damage was already far too low.
Revert, hell buff, SoR/JoR SoCor/JoCor.
Zach Oct 25th 2008 1:17PM
The only reason BoM was raised to 306 was so that it doesn't get overwritten by Battle Shout.
Stephen Moore Oct 26th 2008 6:49AM
My issue with the Judgement nerf is that it also hits what little soloing viability Holy had. Holy needs a lot of help as a levelling spec and nerfing Judgements just makes it worse.
Geoff Oct 25th 2008 1:19PM
Actually this puts ret pallies on par with the other hybrid mana melee, enhancement shaman. In the 3.0 patch we start to suffer from mana problems if we just spam all our abilities. Our dps is great if we do it, but our long term dps is cut short by the mana loss. We have to carefully conserve mana via shamanistic rage and other methods to keep our dps at a good level. I mostly see this as giving paladins the same challenge, so it isn't just a facerolling lolfest, with no penalties or problems.
Alkaios Oct 25th 2008 3:50PM
"facerolling lolfest"
Lol I'm totally using that someday. Made me giggle.
Angus Oct 26th 2008 3:06AM
You mean that enhance and ret are "hard mode" melee?
Once a fight is a few seconds into the melee engagement a fury or arms warrior is done "conserving" They are getting rage from white hits, taking small hits from aoe and so they are pretty much spamming abilities in a rotation to get their maximum dps.
Rogues get their SS up, spam 1-2 combo moves to get their 5pts, hit a massive damage finisher, 2 combo pts, SS up again, rinse, repeat. As long as they spec right and do decently well for gear they will have the energy to do this indefinitely.
Shaman get to wait 1:45 for their bar to refill, have to sacrifice a DPS talent DEEP in the tree for mana regen (static shock doesn't do anything with water shield) and are required to have a priority list memorized for their maximum DPS.
"If 5stack MW, LB. If not and SS is off CD, SS. If SS on cd, ES. If none of above possible, LL. If that not possible, sit and wait 2 seconds."
And Ret will have to hold off their CDs to keep mana up. Yea, seems fair that the guys with 2 2-handers are never having to conserve anything half way through a fight while the hybrids are forced to.
