Phase 4 of the Zombie invasion begins! [UPDATED x8]

Argent Dawn representatives are being spotted around capital cities. The new raid boss in Karazhan, Tenris Mirkblood, is now active and dropping one Arcanite Ripper (a 2H axe), a Vampiric Batling for each raid member, and two badges for each raid member. You can get to him by going through Attuneman, clearing him, and then moving up the stairs behind his room. We've got a strategy guide up now with details on how to defeat him
You can see the location of the necropolises on the world map - they are indicated by little purple skull icons.
A Haunted Momento has been confirmed to drop from rare spawns around the necropolises- it's a leather ball type item that you throw to someone. Whoever has the momento gets to have a wraith follow you around! Pics after the break and in our gallery.
Big Update: Click the Arcanite Ripper and play it like a guitar!
Late night updates: There are Argent Dawn healers appearing at most flight paths (if not all) around the game. They are making is so the flight path NPC does not become a zombie anymore. We have a semi-confirmation of the Lurch buff increasing in speed to 125%. But we also have conflicting reports.
Continue reading after the break for the latest information.

Actually this is just the Hallow's End talk. They are imitating humans. They did it last year as well.

I have to say I am loving this...never seen a big event like this since I started playing.....

Map zooming stopped working for quiet a few people in the last patch. So we are pretty much screwed on Ghostlands from doing anything.

Update your Cartographer. The latest version works. Failing that, uninstall all map mods and use the Blizzard UI - which also works.
pungkow Oct 25th 2008 4:14PM
Do you have cartogropher or Questhelper? I had both, and was having that problem, then logged out and disabled them both, and I could zoom out...WoW also started going a LOT faster in general.

In your map try changing "Zone Map" to "Never Show" -- that fixed it for me. The default is "always show".

"Pictured below is a 2H sword."..... or maybe an axe? ;-)

The Kara boss fight is fairly easy. Stay away from the Spirits, and heal whoever's got his debuff.
Mind you it took us two wipes to figure this one out.

The plural of Necropolis is Necropoli. Just thought I would let everyone know.
Angry Joe Oct 25th 2008 4:34PM
No, it's not.

Owned.

Awesome, thanks for correcting me. Now I know the real word. It's still not necropolises, though.

necropolis -> necropoleis
It's Greek, not Latin.
Krick Oct 25th 2008 11:59PM
The same goes for the word "octopus". The word is Greek and it means eight-footed. The original plural was octopodes, but it has been Anglicized over the years to octopuses. Unfortunately, people have been bastardizing octopus with a Latin pluralization, octopi, for so long that it's starting to make it into dictionaries.

Krick, speaking as someone with a Classics degree:
"Oktopous" was the original Greek. Its plural was/is "oktopodes".
"Oktopous" was, in fact, brought into Latin by the Romans as "octopus". However, like most borrowed words, it was fourth declension, not second. Its Latin plural was/is "octopus", same as the singular.
"Octopus", the Latin, was brought into English as "octopus". Seeing as how English is bad with retaining native plurals of borrowed words, the English plural became (and is) "octopuses", much like the English plural of the borrowed "hippopotamus" is "hippopotamuses".
All three - "oktopodes", "octopus", and "octopuses" - are correct plurals, depending on which language you intend to use. ("Octopi", however, is not.)
Similarly, "nekropolis" is, in Greek, pluralized to "nekropoleis". In English, however, it's perfectly acceptable to use "necropolises". (Again, not "necropoli".)

I've taken five years of Latin ^_^ The main problem with worlds coming into English from Latin (or any other language) is that in many other languages (and even English, to an extent), words have multiple forms with clues. Latin, especially, is an infinitive language, which means you have a base word and you ad something on the end for context.
English usually has a base word and we add a whole other word for context, meaning that octopus (off-topic) might mean "belonging to the octopuses" in Latin and just mean octopus in English.
And now we return you to your regularly scheduled talk about zombies and necropolies.
