Argent Dawn rewards during the Zombie invasion
Phase four of the zombie invasion has unlocked quite a bit of cool stuff in the game. Out in Light's Hope Chapel in Eastern Plague Lands sits an Argent Dawn Quartermaster. In order for him to even show you his wares, you need to complete the "Under the Shadow" quest from Commander Thomas Helleran who is nearby. There is also another quest called "Shadows of Doom" that you should complete along the way.For the "Under the Shadow" quest you need to collect 10 Necrotic Runes. These runes are an uncommon item (though they are very common in drop rate) which you can get from killing any undead / scourge mob around a necropolis spawn point. You can find the zones these necropolises are in by looking for a purple skull on your continent map. Be forewarned though, there's a lot of people farming these items and you'll be hard pressed to get any without a group.
The "Shadows of Doom" quest requires you to kill an elite mob, a Shadow of Doom. These mobs don't hit very hard but are rather difficult to get a hold of unless you're in a group with a plan. In order to make a Shadow of Doom mob appear, you need to give 8 Necrotic Runes to a priest NPC near a necropolis spawn point – they're in the same area you'll pick up the Necrotic Runes from. To complete the Shadows of Doom quest, you'll only need to kill one Shadow of Doom.
Once the quests are complete (although only "Under the Shadow" is required to access the Quartermaster), turn them back in to Commander Thomas Helleran. Celebrate as you've gotten either some Blessed Wizard Oil or some Consecrated Sharpening Stones. But the next part is even more fun. Spend all those extra runes you've picked up, or go off and farm more for a few hours. You can spend them at the Argent Dawn Quartermaster who is located off to the left of Commander Thomas Helleran.
Some of the big items that the Argent Dawn Quartermaster provides are the Argent War Horn, which summons an Argent Dawn Knight to defend you (you can see a video of it now, and we'll be having a post up about the Kngiht shortly).
Another cool item is the Argent Dawn Banner, which plants a banner on the ground and spits out a consecrate. You'd think it's a useful item for tanking, but it really doesn't add anything – especially given the buffs tanks received in patch 3.0.2. But having a banner planted at your feet is cool.
Also provided is a Tabard of the Argent Dawn. This is a nifty tabard that lets you look like all the Argent Dawn NPCs around you. Once you get the Tabard you also complete a "Feat of Strength" achievement called "Tabard of the Argent Dawn".
Finally there is the Argent Tome which smites your foes with your wisdom. Being that you're wisdom is full of truthiness, it is clearly an over powered trinket.
There are lots of other goodies, including mana and health potions, as well as some pieces of armor you can get. Take a look at our gallery for everything available from the Argent Dawn Quartermaster.

Could you provide info as to what level you have to be to get these quests? Or shall I just presume it's YET ANOTHER 70s-only-get-away-from-the-cool-kid's-table event?
OrkOfYork Oct 26th 2008 2:29PM
In some place a level 58 said he had the quests, but the gear and stuff is all level 70 geared. Even the mobs.
Blizzard sadly doesnt add enough new content to the guys levelling up, but that's just the way it goes.
I'd like to see more redone content like Dustwallow Marsh's new shiny feel. Mid-20/early 30s zones need that done to them and early 40s zones too.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Yet another bunch of content for the endgame people alone. e_e

Wholly agreed. I wish Blizzard would remember that different people play the game at different paces, and that they'd realize that it sucks to miss out on short-term or one-time events just because you don't have a level 70 character. Grr. Arg.

According to WoWhead, you only need to be level 50. The mobs are level 70, however, so you need to be really careful and have generous 70 friends to kill them and keep you alive. As a level 64 priest with a 70 pally and 70 mage, I was able to pick up enough runes for the tabard, banner trinket, cloth shoulders, and cloth gloves (46 runes in total, 56 if you include the ten needed for the first quest), loot the cloth chest piece, and get half a level of experience. The only item I can actually equip before I hit 70 is the tabard, though. It was a profitable night for everyone, and I was still able to provide decent healing at my level.

I really want one of those tabards, but I doubt that I can hit lvl 50 fast enough...
Damn you Blizzard for making this so frustrating to low-level chars.

There's also a Quartermaster in IF outside the AH

In SW too, so i suspect they are in all the capital cities, although i don't know about tthe horde side.
we found out that as a Zombie you can take ANY portal from shatt. horde can go to SW, Alli can go Org.
hmmm. interesting...

Pretty cool event....good chance for some casual players to get purples/blues...wish they had something i could use...lol. Is it just me or did they make the potions and other stuff a little pricey? Purple gloves for 15 stones, but healing potion for 20???
Trepidprism Oct 26th 2008 2:25PM
So do we get the whole blessed set from this quarter master?
Redem Oct 26th 2008 2:42PM
No, the quarter master sells two pieces from each set, the rest come from drops.
Gant Oct 26th 2008 2:28PM
The breastplate/leggings drop from the random elite spawns around the crystals, as well as from the Shadows of Doom, and the gauntlets and shoulders are available from the Argent Quartermasters for 15 Necrotic Runes each.

Thanks for the replies

The spawns can be crowded at times, but I did it last night at around 10pm PST and was able to farm 8 runes solo in about 15 minutes as a protection pally. It definitely wasn't as crowded as when I tried earlier in the day, but there was still a decent amount of competition for the mobs. It would definitely be harder, if not impossible, for someone who doesn't have an instant attack to tag a mob.

So...is it necessary to complete both "Under the Shadow" and "Shadows of Doom" to unlock the vendor? You say we "need" to do one one and "should" complete the other...a little vague.
Xandrence Oct 26th 2008 2:44PM
I have only completed Under the Shadows and I have access to the vendor. Hope that helps.
Saeverud Oct 26th 2008 3:14PM
Yeah later at night is always better. Three of us lastnight managed to make around 250 runes total at a single crystal, though that's including all four of the Shadows. As well as having four epics drop, my Pally is quite happy having a white Judgment Raiment set.
Most of the sets are made to look after the t2 Paladin set, but the gloves, and shoulders are a bit different depending on the material type with the plate matching the original set.

I'm on my hols atm so not playing, but I've been grinding argent dawn rep on my 70 for the title. Do these qs give argent dawn rep?
Reinard Oct 26th 2008 3:10PM
I'm just curious as to why the epic gear is 15 shards, the tabard is only 8, and those horrible potions are 20? Bah :|
I'm happy. I gots a tabard, that'll likely only be replaced by the Argent Crusade tabard.

End-game is not the end-all, be-all, and I'm tired of hearing things like the above, "Get to the end-game you fucking slackers." Those of us leveling up our mains or alts are taking our time, ENJOYING the game. Those of you who aren't, that just bulldoze your way to 70— well, enjoy not having enough gold, not really knowing your class, and knowing nothing about the story of the world you are playing in.
