Zombie invasion phase 5.5 - quests to the faction leaders and Shattrath [Updated x4]

It is all very, very evil. And very, very cool.
These quests all hint at a cure being found for the plague. Additionally, there are new structures appearing in Shattrath. They are all apparently being commanded by Grand Apothecary Putress (WoWWiki information).
The bullet points for this phase are as follows. Time stamped updates are given after the break.
- A cure for the plague is being worked on.
- New quests given by "commoners" in the capital cities.
- Quests lead to Putress and the faction leaders.
- Grand Apothecary Putress appears as a level 80 elite NPC in Shattrath.
- Putress has some interesting idle conversation while in Shattrath.
- The Night Elf faction leader hints at a new World Tree upon quest completion.
- A Frozen Shade or a Dual-plagued Brain will have a conversation with you while you're completing the quests.
Many thanks to everyone who is sending up tips! You're helping everyone stay abreast of the latest invasion news!
Quotes from the Frozen Shade:
- There. I found you...
- Your kingdoms shall fall, Human!
- Your mighty castles will crumble and your loved ones will join the Lich King's ranks!
- Greetings...
- My master has a message for you...
- It is this: Welcome.
- Welcome to a cold death.
- Greetings...
- The stench of that holy trinket you carry disgusts me...
- Why don't you discard it...
- I see you...
- Join us, Osullavan. Swear ligeance* to the Lich King. Give yourself to him and know peace... the peace you have been denied since your wailing, terrified birth.
- Ahh, there you are...
- Say goodbye to the ones you love, Shaman.
- There is fire in my eys! My mind!
- Cling to your hope, mortal!
- Hope sweetens the soul, and yours will be a fine dessert for the Lich King!
- Give me your brain!
- I must feed...
- You... I've seen you in Shattrath...
- My King knows of you. He wants to see you.
- Please! ! Destroy me!
- Let the torture end!
- Show mercy! Give me peace!
- Where am I? So dark...
- Ling flesh eases the pain...
- Please, I just need a little. A finger or an ear will do.

eh, I bet they're a bunch of WAR players.

Frozen Shade whispers: Ah, there you are...
Frozen Shade whispers: There is no honor fighting us when the end has already been written. Azeroth... will... die.
Frozen Shade whispers: If you struggle, then before your death you will face pain and horror and the loss of all you love.

Of all the quests I've ever done, I must say that this simple two-stage quest is my all-time favorite.
Unexpected (somehow I managed to miss this article) and delightfully chilling.
Oh and I don't have time to read the posts, but I'm sure someone realized this sounds an awful lot like Know Your Lore's speculation as to the creation of The Ashbringer? Well done!
Suzaku Oct 27th 2008 8:00AM
The creation of the Ashbringer has already been outlined in the first issue of the World of Warcraft: Ashbringer comic.
(Spoilers)
Alexandros Mograine obtained the Draenish crystal orb from an orc warlock during the battle at Blackrock Spire during the Second War. It jacked up his hand so he locked it away, but was always intrigued by it and kept it locked it away. In an event you can see in CoT, the orb absorbs and takes on the holy traits of the magic used on it when the paladins try to destroy it, and shortly after, Mograine takes it to Ironforge where Magni forges it into the Ashbringer.

This is a superb event for anyone who has played for a while and something different and exciting - certainly a step up from the last invasion in 1.11!
However, it is not a time to start playing WOW or give a friend a 10 day trial - you would be almost unable unable to do anything constructive.

Is it just me whose spine is tingling at the possibility of Tirion Fordring rocking up & unleashing some severe zombie-bashing whoop-ass with Ashbringer?
I just hope that if he does so it's done in a way that means that players don't miss it, cos after all the disruption to play over the last week I think EVERYONE deserves to see the conclusion to this event.
Wistin Oct 27th 2008 9:27AM
I hope so. I'll be out of town during the last two weeks of this (unless it all happens this week) and I'd hate to miss it.
I've been enjoying both sides of it.
Elmo Oct 27th 2008 5:34AM
Well I don't know where you found these quests because I don't see any.
or aren't they active in Europe yet?
Theserene Oct 27th 2008 5:38AM
You really are pathetic
Theserene Oct 27th 2008 5:38AM
That was not in reply to the article...somehow my commetns are not nesting
Dinnerbone Oct 27th 2008 5:38AM
I saw a Faint Necrosis Crystal in stormwind last night, it had a quest but the crystal blew up before I could accept it. Is this a new quest too?
Theserene Oct 27th 2008 5:45AM
You get that from helping to kill scourge during an invasion of a major city. I think that occurs every few hours.
Suzaku Oct 27th 2008 8:00AM
No, they had these at the previous Scourge Invasion when Naxx was released.
Theserene Oct 27th 2008 5:44AM
I still think this is an awesomely fun event! Lots of new things and a chance to get historic screenshots of half a city dead for those who missed the original Hakkar plague.
To all those whining about it (and those immature enough to cancel the game over it) are you going to complain when the expansion hits because everyone will be in Northrend and no-one will be in the low areas?
The whole point of an MMO is that it changes, it brings new things in to experience. If you never want your gameplay to change and you don't want world events then go play on a private server.
Trellsilla Oct 27th 2008 6:16AM
Am I the only one who's highly suspicious of a plague-obsessed Forsaken who plays with the Scourge's blood-based machinery asking me to take a plague-ridden body part to the man standing just behind my faction leader...
Alyna Oct 27th 2008 9:58AM
Now that you mention it.. :O What if we just all killed our leaders :P
Amaxe Oct 27th 2008 10:49AM
Doubt you can kill the leaders... Argent healers in the throne rooms
Trellsilla Oct 27th 2008 11:18AM
There are times I want another option. Other than just "Do quest" or "Don't do quest", I'd like a "Turn quest-giver in to authorities for suspicious behavior" option. There are a few quest chains I would want the same option in, such as the Goblins stealing Ethereal tech in Netherstorm, and the "I'm only building a scareghoul" quests for the Embalmer in Duskwood
Sagara Oct 27th 2008 6:24AM
Phew. Epic event still on tracks.
Honestly, I got worried on Sunday, when, logging on an alt shaman in BB, had to play hide & seek whit a bunch of zombies (noting safes spots and guards that could take the heat in my place). I found that trilling the first time around, but I fear many will find this irritating at best. I was worried that should the event grow even grimmer, that it would be near impossible to step near any city and have a fighting chance to see one's class master of flight master...
But seeing this new evolution, it seems that the invasion probably won't grow any worse, and still allow people decent access to capital cities... Time to rip out the hammer, and smash some zombie brains to get to the Flight Master :p
Furious George Oct 27th 2008 7:24AM
Call me a QQer I guess, but I am NOT a fan.
I logged into the game last night, was infected before my character had finished drawing, and died shortly thereafter. In Shatt. Elsewhere on our server, a group of zombies camped the portal in the SW mage tower and infected everyone who came through the portal. Short timer + lack of healers = zombie and probably death. Under any other conditions, that is clearly griefing, but this time it has Blizzard's blessing.
Dead quest givers, corpse runs, cities laid to waste. Non stop arguing in trade chat about how "fun" it all is or isn't. Thanks, but pass.
I appreciate the fact that Blizzard worked to create a world event to launch the Lich King. And clearly, some of you are enjoying it (I did too before it got to this point), but for those that are not enjoying it, there is no real way to opt out other than not playing until it is over.
Whether or not this is what Blizzard intended, I think they miscalculated. When you have a large segment of your customer base that clearly HATES what you have done, something is wrong; world event or not, it is still supposed to be fun, and for a lot of us, it just isn't.
