Same here Zero - I've been grinding Timermaw and I don't get zombies bothering me.
This may be way off base, but I live in New York, and after the Terrorist attacks, we just adapted. We didn't complain about how hard it was to get down town, we just changed how we did things till normality was restored.
If a serious thing were to happen, we would leave, and come back later. If you're a low level player, you would do well to avoid the cities during this.
If you want to role play it, make a low-level alt, and have him handle the character's business like AH and banking. Goblin cities, much less touched by this, have banks as well. It should work fine.
Enjoy that the game is dynamic enough that you can live around it.
